Hi All

One of the few things that has helped me cope with electro hypersensitivity and the sleep problems that it causes, has been melatonin. It does not protect you from the effects of EMR but it can help by giving you a decent sleep. I have found that very small doses, a third or a quarter of the regular dose, on occasion, helps me to sleep better. The story below indicates a new type of melatonin which is not synthetic. Perhaps it may help other EHS sufferers!

Welsh Laboratory Discovers Natural Antidote for Sleep Disturbance Caused by Cell Phones; Don't Disturb Me! Asphalia for Natural Sleep

Four scientific studies have now reported that exposure to cellphones, especially after 9 p.m., can increase the likelihood of sleep disturbance. The cause appears to be that cell phone radiation, as well as those from other electrical appliances and high voltage power lines; all cause a build-up of damaging free radicals in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and simultaneously suppress the synthesis of the sleep-controlling hormone melatonin.

The latest is by the world respected Karolinska institute and the US based MIT, but a few months earlier a smaller research program by Loughborough University's Sleep Research Centre found a similar effect. The effect appears greatest if cell phone calls are made after nine o'clock, when many contracts allow free calls, or if the cell phone is left on by the bedside during the night.

Coghill Research Laboratories, a Welsh-based bio-electromagnetic lab, found that by supplementing the diet of exposed people with a physiological dose of plant-derived form of melatonin, known to be a powerful free radical scavenger, the symptoms disappeared. This plant derived melatonin is the main ingredient in Don't Disturb Me! Asphalia for Natural Sleep. A larger version of their clinical trial is now being organized with a major University. Meanwhile the supplement has been introduced into hundreds of UK health food shops under the brand name Asphalia. The product is now being launched in the U.S. by DIVA Marketing Group LLC under the brand name "Don't Disturb Me! Asphalia for Natural Sleep".

The finely milled encapsulated powder in Don't Disturb Me! is more easily assimilated than tablets found in most synthetic melatonin supplements. Typical user comments are that it produces a natural effect and addiction free sleep improvement.

The Pontypool-based lab has now received a £100,000 private investment organized by the Welsh Assembly Government with more to follow as production on the company's organic estates is expanded.

Says Roger Coghill, a longstanding researcher in electromagnetic field ("EMF") bio-effects and campaigner for greater awareness of their adverse health effects, "Despite warnings from an increasing number of Governments the public is confused and has little knowledge of how to deal with these EMF exposures. Sleep disturbance is not the only problem: in the last few months Israeli and Swedish studies have reported elevated incidence of brain tumours among long term cell phone users. With Asphalia, I think we may accidentally have stumbled on a major contribution to the problem of electro-pollution in modern society".
