Sciatica affected by EMR

A point of interest:

My sister who lives in Halifax suffers from severe Sciatica.

In their home they have WiFi, Cordless phones and T.V. on for most of the day but they believe there is no link between this exposure and the Sciatica.

When we went down to stay for a few days I had Sciatica so badly it was difficult for me to get out of a chair. When I returned home, no problem!

This was the first time I have had Sciatica for at least 30 years. My sister is still not convinced!

(Sciatica is a pain caused by irritation to the Spinal Nerve Roots -

Why should PG&E customers who wish to opt out of the SmartMeters have to pay a fine?

http://www.contracostatimes.com/opinion/ci_17910566?nclick_check=1

PG&E must be saving millions by laying off all those human meter readers; surely they can absorb the cost. For that matter, why aren't they passing the savings on to their customers?

Fewer jobs, more corporate profits, more radiation and no benefits to the consumer -- sounds like the new America all right.

Telemetry Devices

You may have already read what Itron's past history

In this document they raise a question about interference between SATELITE networks that use Medical and Non Medical Information via an existing network called Little Leo

ITRON mentions what is inside the smart meters the same technology as the medical systems called Telemetry Devices(MESH - more info at end of email) which is often a system used for things that are moving, houses don’t move, so wired would be more practical

http://www.fcc.gov/wrc-07/pdf_comments/Itron.pdf ....."

As a result of these actions, Itron has developed a new generation of automatic meter reading systems that it is marketing to electric, gas, and water utility companies.

Itron's new systems include 1.4 GHz telemetry devices that are installed on individual meters, and Itron anticipates that millions of these devices will be deployed within a relatively short period.

The devices, which have been specifically designed for licensed operations in the 1.4 GHz band, have to be small enough to fit into many different utility meters, must be low cost, and have limited system margin, making them vulnerable to interference from Little LEO feeder downlinks. This vulnerability is widespread, because Itron's devices will be ubiquitous and Little LEO satellite systems have massive downlink footprints. Special care is warranted in these circumstances.".......

So what is a Smart Meter company and a Medical system have in common?just the way they search around for connections using the MESH network? or is there a bigger connection between E-Health and Smart Meters?

Pet ID microchip lawsuit / Students monitored with 'cattle-tracking' devices / Standing Committee on Health / Dr. Devra Davies to in Niagara / Hazardous to Your Health?

W.E.E.P. News

Wireless Electrical and Electromagnetic Pollution News

14 October 2010

Dear CASPIAN Members and Supporters,

I have big news! A lawsuit has been filed against pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co. and implant maker Digital Angel over a cancerous tumor that formed around a HomeAgain pet ID microchip. The victim was a cat named Bulkin, who miraculously survived the ordeal after surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. We are breaking the news today on our brand new www.ChipMeNot.com website, featuring Bulkin's story, along with a copy of the lawsuit. Our press release, which has already gone out to thousands of media outlets and personal press contacts, is posted below, and at

http://www.chipmenot.org/mercksued.htm

The Boston Globe has already picked up our story:

http://www.boston.com/community/pets/articles/2010/10/13/suit_alleges_tracking_chip_caused_cancer_in_cat/

As has Bruce Sterling of Wired:

http://www.wired.com/beyond_the_beyond/2010/10/arphid-watch-rfid-implant-lawsuit-for-a-cat/

Steven Wise, the attorney who filed the suit, will be a guest on my radio show tomorrow (Thursday 10/14) at 5:00 PM Eastern to discuss the case.

(See: www.KatherineAlbrecht.com for details on how to stream the show live online, or catch the archives afterwards.)

Our new website, ChipMeNot.com, is an adverse reaction registry where pet owners can report harm caused by implanted microchips. It features Bulkin's story and the stories of other other cats, dogs, mice, rats, and small animals that have been injured -- and even killed -- by implanted chips. Our inspiration for the website came from Seamus and Scotty, the two brave dogs that died from microchip-induced tumors earlier this year, Charlie Brown, the adorable chihuahua who bled to death in his owners' arms last year, and Leon the bulldog whose owner first alerted us to the cancer problem. We pay tribute to their memory through this new website, and pray that by telling their stories we can help protect other pets from their fate.

As you can imagine, it has taken months of hard work to put the website together. I want to thank our unflappable graduate intern Lidiya Prorochuk, tenacious pet owners Howard Gillis and Linda Hawkins, our steadfast volunteer Brian Wiegand, our fountain of knowledge Jeanne, and our cheerful webmaster Robin Abbate for a job extraordinarily well done.

I also want to thank each of you -- the CASPIAN members, supporters, and radio show listeners who regularly send prayers, encouragement, and financial support to keep us going. You guys are what makes it possible for us to work on important issues like this.

In freedom,

Katherine Albrecht, Ed.D. ________________________________________________________________________

MERCK SUED: HomeAgain® PET CHIP IMPLICATED IN CANCER

New website, ChipMeNot.com, features details on cancer case and other adverse reactions

Online at:

http://www.prweb.com/releases/2100/01/prweb4643884.htm

and

http://www.chipmenot.org/mercksued.htm.

Nashua, NH -- Pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co. has been served with a lawsuit over claims its HomeAgain® pet microchip induced cancer in a cat. Animal rights attorney Steven Wise seeks "reasonable compensatory damages" for a malignant tumor "likely" induced by a HomeAgain® ID chip implanted in his client's cat, Bulkin.

The complaint, "Andrea Rutherford v. Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp. and Digital Angel, Inc." (case # 1052CV1147) was filed last week in Cambridge (MA) District Court. The complaint named implant maker Digital Angel Corporation as a co-defendant. "Based on the alarming number of microchip-linked cancers we're discovering, I predict this lawsuit will be just the tip of the iceberg," said Dr. Katherine Albrecht, a consumer advocate and expert on adverse reactions associated with implantable microchips.

Bulkin's case is featured at www.ChipMeNot.com, a new website launched by Albrecht's consumer group CASPIAN to bring attention to the plight of animals who have developed cancer and other adverse reactions from ID microchips.

Albrecht documents several of these cases in "Microchip-Induced Tumors in Laboratory Rodents and Dogs: A Review of the Literature 1990–2006," a peer-reviewed academic paper she presented at a June conference of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers devoted to concerns about implantable microchips.

Albrecht's paper and a copy of the complaint are also posted at www.ChipMeNot.com. The site, co-developed with graduate intern Lidiya Prorochuk, spotlights a growing number of adverse reactions to microchips, including the chip-related cancer deaths of two dogs within the past year. The site also features a form where pet owners can report adverse microchip reactions, since there is currently no official registry in the US to collect such data.

"Merck and organizations that advocate pet chipping should take this lawsuit seriously and start warning pet owners of the risk of microchip-induced cancer," Albrecht advised. "As Andrea Rutherford and other pet owners can tell you, it's not a statistic when it's your pet."

BRITAIN'S £6BN VODAFONE BILL

From: "Mast Sanity"
http://www.private-eye.co.uk/sections.php?section_link=in_the_back&issue=127

Luxembourg calling: Vodafone has salted away anything up to €18bn income in the tax haven

WHEN Vodafone bought German engineering company Mannesmann a decade ago for €180bn, it desperately wanted to use the mother of all tax avoidance schemes so taxpayers would subsidise what turned out to be a massively over-priced mistake. The plan was to route the acquisition through an offshore company. This, however, would potentially fall foul of British anti-tax avoidance laws, and when the company asked the then Inland Revenue to clear the arrangement, it duly refused. Vodafone went ahead anyway and bought Mannesmann using a Luxembourg subsidiary company called Vodafone Investments Luxembourg sarl (VIL), in which it would go on to dump vast profits taxed at less than 1 percent.

An epic legal battle began, with Vodafone resisting the taxman's efforts to get all the information on the deal and arguing through the courts that the British laws striking out the tax benefits of its deal were neutered by European law which granted, Vodafone claimed, the freedom to establish anywhere in the EU (including its dodgiest tax havens) without facing a tax bill.

VIL's accounts show that, up to March 2009, €15.5bn income was stuffed into the company, suggesting it is now heading to the €18bn mark and resulting in £5bn in lost tax and interest so far. But, armed with strong advice from eminent legal counsel, tax inspectors were confident they could win the cash back, not least because until 2004 the scam was run through the Luxembourg company's Swiss branch. This of course was not even in the EU (although that year Luxembourg changed its own rules to allow the trick to work without inconveniencing tax avoiders with the need for an Alpine branch).

A less 'black and white view of the law'

Officials were further emboldened last year when the court of appeal ruled that British laws striking out the avoidance scheme could conform with European laws. But they reckoned without HM Revenue & Customs' (HMRC) "permanent secretary for tax", Dave Hartnett, and his customer-friendly approach to big multinationals.

Despite HMRC's victories, Hartnett moved the case from his specialists and lawyers – dismissed in recent comments to the FT as "very intelligent people" suffering from "a black and white view of the law" – to a dimmer but more amenable group to negotiate with Vodafone's head of tax, John Connors, who until 2007 was a senior official at HMRC working closely with Hartnett on handling big business.

The fruits of these talks, conducted without consulting HMRC's litigators and specialists in the tax law concerned on the chance of success in the courts, was a bill for Vodafone of £800m, with another £450m payable over five years and, remarkably, an agreement that the arrangement can carry on into the future with a promise of no challenge from HMRC. The Eye understands that the settlement also swept up several other Vodafone tax avoidance schemes.

More sweetheart deals to come

The bill for all other taxpayers in lost tax is likely to be at least £6bn. Resentment within the HMRC ranks is high and one former official familiar with the case described it as an "unbelievable cave-in". But there is no means for the deal to be audited: the National Audit Office refuses to look at specific cases.

Hartnett's comments to the FT signal more sweetheart deals to come. The "conciliatory" approach can be presented as an urgent cash-gathering exercise, but in practice it encourages tax avoidance and sells other taxpayers well-short. It also masks the fact that staff cuts at HMRC are destroying its abilities to fight tax avoidance. Spending on the activity has already fallen from £3.6bn in 2006/07 to £1.9bn, with more cuts to come, prompting the association of senior Revenue officials to compare the government to "a drowning man who decides to throw off his life jacket, because it weighs too much". How fortunate then that under HMRC's reporting practices the Vodafone settlement will count as a £1.25bn success in the fight to close the "tax gap", rather than a £6bn gift to a large phone company.

PS: The Tories have further cause to thank Mr Hartnett. As Eye 1136 revealed five years ago, government cuts adviser Philip Green had personal discussions with Hartnett over his tax affairs while legal battles raged over schemes for husbands and wives to share their income for tax purposes. Dividends from Green's businesses continue to be paid to trusts controlled by his Monaco-resident wife Tina, undisturbed by the taxman.

Tattoos and Cosmetics, a risk for EMR exposure

My nine year-old relative got a large red/black tattoo and it breaks my heart as most red tattoo pigment contains mercury and/or heavy metals. I don't blame her or her parents. I blame Health Canada. How can this be legal to inject into the body of a nine-year old? Apart from toxicity, there is also the issue of potential metallic synergy with today's electrosmog.

There is a lot of information online with regard to coloured tattoos reacting to emf in "sensitive" individuals and even instructions to protect it from sunlight so as to avoid fading and/or "allergic" reaction in "sensitive individuals.

"Since most tattoo inks contain metal, MRI exams may cause tattoos to have a burning or stinging sensation. "

"What's In Tattoo Ink? The vast majority of tattoo pigments are derived from metals, which makes them a potential source for developing a skin reaction."

"Red is the color most commonly associated with reactions within a tattoo. Mercury is the base metal in red tattoo dye, and may be known by the names mercury sulphide, cinnabar, vermillion and red cinnabar.

Reactions within the tattoo may be eczematous or granulomatous. These reactions are often seen several years from the time the tattoo is placed and may be associated with exposure to cross reactants.

Another option, cadmium red is related to the metal family and may have potential reactivity and cadmium sulfide may be a byproduct within some red dyes which may result in a phototoxic swelling of the area when exposed to light."

"Photosensitivity or phototoxicity basically results from a reaction between the sun and the tattoo dye."

http://www.dermadoctor.com/article_The-Science-Of-Tattoos_113.html

"Some hospitals and testing locations refuse to do an MRI on people who have body tattoos."

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/139496/the_deadly_dangers_of_body_tattoos_pg2.html?cat=5

"One of the chemicals known to be used in tattoo ink is thimerosal, also called thiomersal, an organic compound made with mercury. Thimerosal is commonly included in tattoo inks, vaccines, antivenins, and eye and ear products as a preservative."

http://www.organicconsumers.org/articles/article_14958.cfm

Tattoos are considered to be cosmetic products in Canada even though they are injected.

Health Canada's March 2007 changes to the Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist:

"Mercury (7439-97-6) and its compounds (including, but not limited to mercuric oxide (21908-53-2), phenyl mercuric acetate (62-38-4), phenyl mercuric benzoate (94-43-9), phenyl mercuric borate (102-98-7, 6273-99-0) and thimerosal (54-64-8)). The restriction for these ingredients has been amended to a prohibition due to the Health Canada mercury reduction strategy." (on Health Canada's site Oct. 09, 2010)

"It is acknowledged that heavy metal impurities in cosmetic products are unavoidable due to the ubiquitous nature of these elements, but should be removed wherever technically feasible. Heavy metal concentrations in cosmetic products are seen to be technically avoidable when they exceed the following limits: Mercury: 3 ppm" (on Health Canada's site Oct. 09, 2010)

Does this reflect that mercury restrictions have been "amended to a prohibition" or that "some is still okay"?

Health Canada's "Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist - June 2010"

"Mercury (7439-97-6) and its compounds (including, but not limited to mercuric oxide (21908-53-2), phenyl mercuric acetate (62-38-4), phenyl mercuric benzoate (94-43-9), phenyl mercuric borate (102-98-7, 6273-99-0) and thimerosal (54-64-8))" (on Health Canada's site Oct. 09, 2010)

"Mercury is also used as a preservative in some products like cosmetics and vaccines. When used according to regulated restrictions, mercury is considered safe." (on Health Canada's site Oct. 09, 2010)

"Health Canada requires that manufacturers list all of the ingredients that can be found in these products. Lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury, antimony and chromium are heavy-metal ingredients prohibited in cosmetics sold in Canada. An additional 500 ingredients are included on Health Canada's Cosmetic Ingredients Hot List.

"While these products are listed, they aren't necessarily banned," said Anne Rochon Ford, co-director of York University's National Network on Environment and Women's Health. "Quite simply, the list doesn't have any teeth.""

http://www.torontosun.com/life/greenplanet/2010/07/30/14877646.html

When you have an MRI, the instruction sheet tells you not to wear mascara. I asked why and was told because of metallic content could interfere their equipment and its calibration. That's when I found out most mascara contains mercury. Surprisingly, they said seven mercury fillings would be no problem. (hmmm.... still scratching head)

In 2008, Minnesota banned mercury in cosmetics. (1st state to do so)

The political controversy surrounding mercury bears remarkable resemblance to the emf controversy:

Further Harm from Smart Meters / Cruelty and Death of Siberian Tigers by Radio Collars? / "Rapid response" to the original BMJ article

Wireless Electrical and Electromagnetic Pollution News

25 June 2010

Hi Martin,  Yes, please feel free to send my letter.

I was unaware of the dangers of Smart Meters until one was put on my house.  I was wary of cell phones but I had NO physical symptoms from cell phones, wi-fi or cell towers that I was aware of.  I had been using a cell phone (with a headset, because early on I had heard Dr. George Carlo on the radio) and we had wi-fi in our house.  I had not been avoiding EMR.

Now it all makes me sick.

It has been both a nightmare and an awakening.

This is a documentation that I wrote about my experiences-

March 30, 2010

Dear Sir/Madam:

In June 2009 Con Edison installed a new digital electric meter on my house and a new digital gas meter in my basement in Hastings on Hudson, New York. Con Edison told me that the new meters were being used so that it could read the meters with electronic devices from the street. The electric meter is as follows:

Electric Meter CENTRON

0716701200 CL200 240V 3W TYPE C1SRP 30TA 1.okh Ca 0.5 FM 2s 60Hz A72AQ 7978929. 59689 345

In about late September I began to notice I was having some odd symptoms, including the following:

*Agitation

*Memory loss

*Inability to concentrate

*Nervousness

*Inability to get my work done

*Interrupted sleep

I felt as if I were becoming unhinged.

During the time between September and earlier this month my husband and son seemed agitated too. My husbandʼs blood pressure rose and he had to begin taking blood pressure medication. He was also experiencing sleep disruptions.

On February 25th and 26th there was a huge snowstorm here. During the storm I spent many hours in my living room, near my fireplace, about five feet away from the electric meter, which is installed outside my living room window. My right ear was facing the meter. My husband was traveling and my son was not at home for the same length of time that I was. The electricity went on and off several times during those two days. At one point I heard a piercing sound along with pressure in my ears. Along with the symptoms I had previously experienced, I began to develop worse symptoms, including the following:

*Heart palpitations

*A buzzing-pulsing sound, especially in my right ear

*Agitation

*Interrupted sleep with nightmares of being attacked

*Accelerated heartbeat

I was afraid that I would have a heart attack. The symptoms would lessen when I went outside. It seemed that there was something wrong inside my home, perhaps with the electricity.

Through research and talking to electricians, I began to realize that my symptoms might be traceable to something relating to the meters. They were the only recently installed appliances in our home with radio frequencies.

After many desperate phone calls to Con Edison, it removed the digital meters, but only after I presented a note from my doctor, upon which Con Edison insisted. In place of the electric meter Con Edison installed another electric, digital meter that it assured me emitted NO radio frequency. It was as follows:

Electric Meter- Schlumberger Centron

CL200 120V 3W Type CN15 30TA 1.okh Ca. 0.5 FM 25S 60Hz HF5006914736AAV* 71BQ 6914736 25 440 021

Con Edison also told me that I would need in the future to provide it with meter readings. Con Edison told me that both my doctor and I would be receiving a follow up communication from its health department, which we never did.

Whether the people at Con Edison lied or did not know what they were talking about is a question that needs to be answered. This meter also had a radio frequency (Note the FM25S.) I realized this when my symptoms got worse.

I was truly afraid that I would have a heart attack. I became terrified in my own home and could not find a comfortable place to sleep, because the buzzing pulsing sound in my ear was so disturbing. Before all of this started I was a healthy 51 year old.

Again, after making many more calls to Con Edison, on March 4 they removed that meter from my house and replaced it with an analog meter (this is the same type of meter Con Edison had initially removed in June 2009).

My immediate responses were so remarkable that I recorded them.

*Tingling in arms

*Legs felt very heavy

*The buzzing-pulsing became quieter.

*I felt as if my body was weighted down with exhaustion

Within hours I began feeling better. The loud buzzing-pulsing sound quieted down and my thoughts were less scrambled.

But my difficulties continued. In our home we have lived with wireless appliances, cell phones and fluorescent light bulbs for at least three years, and to my knowledge they have never been a problem for me. Now I cannot be near any of these things because I get a buzzing in my ears and my heart starts to race. The only possible cause for this change is that Con Edison placed meters emitting radio frequencies on and in my home in June.

Since Con Edison removed the digital meters and replaced them with an analog meter I am feeling better, but some of the symptoms have not gone away completely.

I have learned from my research that the digital meters with radio frequencies were never properly tested on human beings.

When I asked the Con Edison "Meter Relations" department (212-460-4111) if I could see a copy of the test results for human exposure to the frequencies in the meters, I was told that I must obtain a subpoena to acquire that information.

Con Edison also told me that the FCC had approved the meters. When I called the FCC, I was told that it does not address human health issues, but only with regulating frequencies, and the person with whom I was speaking hung up on me.

This could be a very dangerous situation. These meters are being used across New York State and the country. People might become sick from them and not know what is happening to them.

I am requesting that the meter replacement program be stopped immediately and that home owners be given the right to opt-out of receiving these meters if they do not want them, until further testing is done to learn the effects of the frequencies they emit, especially in combination with other frequencies to which we are already being exposed.

Thank you.

Cruelty and Death of Siberian Tigers by Radio Collars?

The headline on the story below should probably be - Are Siberian Tigers being killed by radio frequency (or microwave) radiation from the radio collars they are forced to wear?

Any intelligent researcher using radiofrequency collars on animals should be aware of the health effects of electro magnetic radiation and should strongly consider that, as the cause of their illnesses.

Whatever happened to investigative reporters?  Are there no reporters or editorial staff at The Observer who are aware about the health effects of electro magnetic radiation on people and on animals?

Siberian tiger threatened by mystery disease

Conservationists say an epidemic is destroying the big cats' ability to hunt and turning them into potential man-eaters

A mystery disease is driving the Siberian tiger to the edge of extinction and has led to the last animal tagged by conservationists being shot dead in the far east of Russia because of the danger it posed to people.

The 10-year-old tigress, known to researchers as Galya, is the fourth animal that has had a radio collar attached to it for tracking to die in the past 10 months. All had been in contact with a male tiger suspected of carrying an unidentified disease that impaired the ability to hunt. "We may be witnessing an epidemic in the Amur tiger population," said Dr Dale Miquelle, the Wildlife Conservation Society's (WCS) Russia director.

Galya had recently abandoned a three-week-old litter of cubs and come into the town of Terney looking for an easy meal. Following a series of all-night vigils by researchers, attempts to scare the tigress away failed. She was reported to the Primorsky State Wildlife Department as an official "conflict tiger", and a state wildlife inspector was called in to destroy her earlier this month.

"This tiger had lost its fear of humans – typically Amur tigers will never expose themselves for observation. It was like seeing someone you know turn into a vampire," Miquelle said.

Scientists are attempting to understand what compromised the tigress's ability to capture wild prey, which she had lived upon almost exclusively since birth. Her cubs, which were subsequently found dead at the den, are likely to have had their mother's disease transmitted to them through the placenta. "Initial necropsy results show an empty digestive tract, which is highly unusual. We're still waiting for results of further tests, but the abnormal behaviour suggests disease, possibly neurological," said Miquelle. "We are extremely concerned about the possibility of an epidemic that could be sweeping through this region. Animals we have studied extensively, and known well, have demonstrated radically changed behaviour, which is extremely disconcerting."

Weighing only 91kg at death – down from an estimated 140kg at full health – the tigress's death represents the end of an 11-year lineage of related "study" tigers, and leaves the WCS's Siberian Tiger Project with no radio-collared animals for the first time in 18 years. WCS Russia has tracked more than 60 tigers since inception in 1992.

In March this year, Miquelle raised the prospect of disease as a potential threat to an already endangered Siberian tiger population. The Siberian Tiger Monitoring Program reported in October 2009 a possible 40% decline in numbers since the last full survey in 2005, from 428 to as little as 252 adult tigers. The tiger's range has been reduced to a small pocket in the corner of the country within the region of Primorsky Krai.

Speaking at a conference in Vladivostok, Miquelle said that anything above a 15% mortality rate in adult females could kill off all Amur tigers. With around 150 adult females in the population, any more than 22 deaths of adult females per year may wipe out the species. Poaching accounts for about 75% of all Amur tiger deaths, with 12 to 16 adult females killed annually. "We're in a new era where disease could seriously affect the Amur tiger."

The Russian draft federal tiger conservation strategy has recently been amended to take account of disease, including a section on vaccination against canine distemper, a viral disease which is common in the Russian far east in domestic dogs and cats.

"The addition of disease-related deaths to existing sources of mortality could push this population over a tipping point," said Miquelle.

The federal strategy, which is being designed by a number of scientific groups including WCS Russia, is being prepared for the first global Tiger Summit due to take place in St Petersburg this September. Along with World Bank president Robert Zoellick, Vladimir Putin is due to preside over the conference.

WCS Russia hopes to recommence the capture of study tigers in September. "We aim to change the focus of why we study tigers, with a new emphasis on disease," said Miquelle. "The only consolation in this grisly process is that, for once, a serious threat is not originating from human actions, although even that, for now, is open to debate."

• This article was amended on 24 June 2010 to correct the source of figures on tiger decline from Wildlife Conservation Society, Russia to The Siberian Tiger Monitoring Program.

Re: Doesn't prove anything I'm afraid

The choice of 700 metres as the radius of the sample may be misleading. If, as many people believe, the bulk of the biological effects occur within 400 metres of the mast, increasing the radius of the sample to 700 metres will dilute it with people who are relatively unaffected.

Insofar as the area of the circle around the mast (and presumably the number of people living in it) increases with the square of the radius, this means that the sample around the mast will contain approximately twice as many "unexposed" as "exposed" people. If the cancer cases are more tightly bunched around the mast, this error becomes even greater.

Also, if the people concerned were regular mobile phone users, the exposure to the signal from their own phone would be greater with increasing distance, which would confound the experiment and make any result appear less significant.

Also, it takes no account of other sources of radiation, which would also make it more difficult to disentangle the effects of the mast.

Lastly, in this day and age, where do you find unexposed controls? Picking people at random from a register certainly won't do it.

While the intentions of the study might have been to reassure the general public that living close to mobile phone masts will not harm them, it was not well designed and the results are virtually meaningless.

I'm afraid no one can take comfort from it.

Dog mast cell cancers

In the United States alone an estimated one million dogs are diagnosed with cancer annually.  One out of every four dogs will die of cancer and it is the number one cause of death in dogs over two years of age.  Mast cell tumors are among the most common skin tumors in dogs, and are often difficult to manage.

Most of these dogs will be treated with surgery, but many patients may require additional or alternative treatment with radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Radiotherapy is not widely available, and where it is an option it remains complicated, expensive, and requires the patient to undergo several procedures where anesthesia is necessary.

-----------------------------------------------------

Note - It is not surprising that so many dogs are developing cancer when you consider their daily exposure to DECT cordless telephones, WiFi, cell phones and household electro magnetic fields etc.  The other dog ailment which has recently grown to epidemic proportions is seizures, this is another illness that can be caused by electro magnetic radiation.

Are wind farms a health risk?

http://windconcernsontario.wordpress.com/2010/05/04/are-wind-farms-a-health-risk/

Credit: By JessicMulholland |a B.  March 2010

A study of families living near wind farms found nature's energy might not be so healthy.

Wind energy is blowing hot right now. Nationwide, wind farms are bringing in renewable energy and jobs, such as in Montana, as detailed in "Propelling Growth." Overall, wind turbines in the United States generated 52 billion kilowatt hours in 2008, which is enough to serve 4.6 million households, according to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). And demand is growing: The number of wind turbines in the U.S. nearly doubled between 2006 and 2008, according to the DOE.

But it isn't all good, according to Dr. Nina Pierpont, who has studied families living near wind turbines. Pierpont found that there are enough negative effects to warrant calling them "Wind Turbine Syndrome," because the symptoms form a consistent pattern from person to person, she says. "A syndrome really means the description of signs and symptoms that occur together and are not yet tied together as a clear disease."

One resident of Mars Hill, Maine, which has hosted a wind farm since 2007, wrote to Pierpont about her experience: "The noise created by the turbines can be unbearable at times," says Wendy Todd. "It causes disruption to sleep patterns, stress and anxiety to most who live downwind of the project. For some it causes headaches, pressure or ringing in the ears, inability to concentrate, feelings of unease, and dizziness. … I am not talking about a simple nuisance, this is about life-altering changes to the environment that can literally make people sick and change the way you live in your home and use your land. A large number of the families affected have considered leaving their homes."

In his testimony to the Michigan Public Service Commission in December 2009, Dr. Malcolm A. Swinbanks said low-frequency noise can induce feelings likened to seasickness. "Like seasickness, the sensitivity of different individuals varies enormously," he says, "some being immediately sensitive, while others can barely detect anything." Swinbanks says he stood beside two people in a place where low-frequency noise was present; one person couldn't really hear anything, while the other felt ill and wanted to leave.

Pierpont's research also finds similar inconsistencies. Further, some of her subjects note that their symptoms come and go according to the wind's direction and strength, blade spinning speed, which way the turbines are facing and particular sounds coming from the turbines.

Ultimately, Pierpont says, low-frequency noise or vibration tricks the body's balance system into thinking it's moving-like seasickness, as Swinbanks suggested.

Wind turbine companies have dismissed the problem, saying people are simply making the symptoms up because they just don't like the turbines. According to a February 2009 article in Ontario, Canada's The Windsor Star, Brian Howe, a consulting engineer in acoustics for HGC Engineering, said Ontario's guidelines for turbine noise are adequate and consistent with Health Canada studies, and that most people near wind turbines aren't complaining about the noise.

But Tracy Whitworth, a teacher in Clear Creek, Ontario, has multiple complaints: Her home sits among 18 turbines, all within a 1.8-mile radius and the closest about one-quarter mile from her back door. "What most don't understand is that it is the low frequency waves you cannot hear that are so debilitating to one's health," she says. "I have developed tinnitus in my ears. I hear and feel the pulsating of the turbines and buzzing in my ears. I also feel the pulsating in my throat and chest. I have nausea, dizziness, significant hearing loss, itchy eyes … heart palpitations, achy joints, short-term memory loss, severe sleep deprivation on a regular basis."

The solution to the problem, say medical experts, isn't to stop harnessing wind's energy, but to place the turbines a certain distance away from where people live. In flat terrain, the turbines should be placed at least 1.25 miles away from where people are located, according to Pierpont, and at least 2 miles away in mountainous terrain, where the turbines are usually on ridges.

This distance from wind farms that residents should maintain, Pierpont says, is probably the most important thing for people to know. "When the wind farms are coming to their communities, they need to know what kinds of distances to ask for," she says. "I think government should be involved in having proper setbacks in place, because that's always a governmental issue whether local or state, and in funding further research."
