BEST WISHES FOR THE NEW YEAR

UW Scientist Henry Lai Makes Waves in the Cell Phone Industry

UW scientist Dr. Henry Lai never set out to link cell phones to cancer, but his work—and efforts to discredit him—suggest that he was on to something. Ironically, with funding for independent research virtually nonexistent, we may never know for sure.

A greeting card on bioengineering professor Henry Lai's office wall at the University of Washington contains this quotation from Ralph Waldo Emerson: "Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."
This philosophy could well sum up Lai's work on the effects of low-level radiation on DNA, as well as what he believes should be the guiding principle of science: independent investigation and research leading to discovery for the public good. Yet the soft-spoken scientist's steadfast belief in that principle has placed his research at the center of a persistent global controversy and created powerful enemies that tried to get him fired and essentially succeeded in drying up the source of funding for the type of research he was doing.
Lai admits that he was naive. He came to the UW in 1972 and earned a doctorate in psychology. Two decades later, as a bioengineering researcher, he studied esoteric scientific topics in relative obscurity. He and a fellow researcher, Narendra "N.P." Singh, were looking at the effects of nonionizing microwave radiation—the same type of radiation emitted by cell phones—on the DNA of rats. They used a level of radiation considered safe by government standards and found that the DNA in the brain cells of the rats was damaged—or broken—by exposure to the radiation. Ironically, cell phones weren't even on Lai's mind when he performed the initial studies. Funded initially by the Office of Naval Research, Lai was investigating how radar, which emits radio-frequency radiation, affects the health of operators. "We did not really pay attention to the importance of this thing," he recalls. But during his research, cell phone giant Motorola Inc. indicated that someone had told the company about Lai's unpublished results. Motorola asked to meet with him in his lab and at a meeting in Copenhagen.
After Lai and Singh's research finding an effect on DNA was published in 1995, Lai learned of a full-scale effort to discredit his work. In an internal company memo leaked to Microwave News, a publication that examines health and environmental effects of electromagnetic radiation, Motorola described its plan to "war-game" and undermine Lai's research. After initially accepting industry funding for continued research from the Wireless Technology Research (WTR) program (created to manage $25 million in research funds), Lai and Singh wrote an open letter to Microwave News questioning restrictions placed on their research by the funders. After that, the head of WTR sent a memo asking then-UW president Richard McCormick to fire Lai and Singh. McCormick refused, but the dustup sent a clear message to Lai and his colleagues.
"This shocked me," Lai says, "the letter trying to discredit me, the 'war games' memo. As a scientist doing research, I was not expecting to be involved in a political situation. It opened my eyes on how games are played in the world of business."
Thus was launched an epic battle over research and truth. If Lai and Singh were correct about the potential impact on brain cells from radio-frequency radiation, there could be billions of dollars on the line for the cell phone industry in potential liability, leading to significant design changes and lost market expansion.
To the layperson, the science behind Lai's work, which was largely funded by the National Institutes of Health, and  industry-funded research to contradict it is mind-numbingly complex. Virtually every assertion of risk has a counterassertion of no risk. For every independent study showing damage to DNA and memory, there is a study showing the opposite.
Lai, 61, says this phenomenon could be a direct result of the way science is now funded around the world. "[The U.S. was on] the cutting edge of this whole area for the last 30 years. [But] right now, we're the Third World country. We're not doing research at all," Lai says. With government funding all but nonexistent, the bulk of scientific research is funded by private industry. "The mechanism is funding," Lai says. "You don't bite the hand that feeds you. The pressure is very impressive."
The massive Interphone study, coordinated by the International Agency for Research on Cancer and released in May 2010, exemplifies these challenges.
Purported to be the definitive word on cell phone radiation and brain tumors, Interphone involved 13 countries (all outside the U.S.), $25 million, and thousands of tumor patients and controls. Conducted over 10 years, the widely anticipated study was supposed to at last provide clarity on the risks of cell phone use. Yet, once again, the science was divided. The day after the study's release, headlines read, "No answer, just fuzz, from cell phone study," and, "One conclusion emerges from Interphone study: Controversy will continue."
Why, after so much money and time, were the data so mixed? Louis Slesin, editor of Microwave News, says there were a number of problems with Interphone. "When we started interviewing the protagonists," he says, "we realized there was a lot of conflict going on. It was a bitter struggle. It tells you the interpretation of the data is not clear cut in any way."
For the purposes of the Interphone study, a person who used a cell phone 30 minutes a day for more than 10 years was considered to be subjected to heavy exposure. Today, that level of cell phone use (900 minutes a month) is average. The people defined as the most heavily exposed in the Interphone study now represent the average user.
To illustrate that point, Elisabeth Cardis, head of the Interphone study, was quoted as saying, "In my personal opinion, I think we have a number of elements that suggest a possible increased risk among the heaviest users, and because the heaviest users in our study are considered the low users today, I think that's something of concern. Until stronger conclusions can be drawn one way or another, it may be reasonable to reduce one's exposure."
Lai's frustration with the increasing body of contradictory research led him to do an analysis in 2006 of the available studies on cell phone radiation between 1990 and 2006, and where their funding came from. What he found was that 50 percent of the 326 studies showed a biological effect from radio-frequency radiation and 50 percent did not. But when he filtered the studies into two stacks—those funded by the wireless industry and those funded independently—Lai discovered industry-funded studies were 30 percent likely to find an effect, as opposed to 70 percent of the independent studies.
Lai says that, while his findings highlight the crucial role industry funding plays in scientific research, the 50-50 split alone should be cause for concern. "Even if you accept all the industry studies, you still end up with 50-50," he says. "How could 50 percent all be garbage? People always start with the statement 'Hundreds of studies have been done on this topic, and no effect has been found,' but this is a very misleading statement. [The statements] come out from the cell phone industry, and people just use it, like the American Cancer Society. People haven't even gone in to look at the real studies and look at the effects that people have reported. This really worries me, because people come out and say things without the facts."
Slesin agrees and says Lai's work is important for the research that does show effects from radiation. "[Lai] is one of the most widely cited scientists in this field," Slesin says.
The American Cancer Society did not reply to requests for an interview. Its official position on the risks of cell phone use states: "Radio frequency (RF) waves given off by cell phones don't have enough energy to damage DNA directly. Because of this, many scientists believe that cell phones aren't able to cause cancer. Most studies done in the lab have supported this theory, finding that RF waves do not cause DNA damage."
CTIA-The Wireless Association, the cell phone industry trade organization, also declined to comment for this story, but its website states: "To date, global health organizations believe that the available scientific evidence does not show that any health problems are associated with using wireless phones. Many studies of low-level RF exposure, such as that which occurs with wireless devices, have not discovered any negative biological effects."
Dr. Beth Mueller, an epidemiologist at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, acknowledges that there is not strong evidence linking cell phones to brain tumors. But Mueller warns that the research is difficult and that much more study is needed. "I think [cell phone radiation] would be important to study. There are no studies I know of on the possible impact on children and I think it's something that many people–including some people here at the Hutch–want to see evaluated. I'm concerned because children are using [cell phones] a lot. It's something that should be looked at, definitely."
Katy Rock would agree. The Kirkland resident is an athletic 31-year-old who began having headaches in her late teens. "Headaches became an unwelcome fact of life for me in college," she says, "at first always after running around on the soccer or lacrosse field. So I assumed for years that it was due to dehydration/nutrition problems or just being out of shape. Eventually, they got worse. I started having them with no explainable cause."
It wasn't until a she had a seizure in 2007 that Rock discovered something was terribly wrong. The next day, she underwent an emergency double craniotomy to remove a tumor the size of a small lemon from her right frontal lobe and two tumors the size of large grapes from her right temporal lobe. A biopsy showed the cancerous tumors had been growing for about 10 years. A year of chemotherapy followed.
Rock was an early adopter of cell phones. Given a phone as a gift during college in 1997, she recalls using it about two to three hours a week (about 630 minutes a month). Her usage increased in later years with a job that required her to be on call. She is right-handed, and her tumors were on the right side.
Rock, who recently completed her first 5K run in support of Seattle Children's Hospital's Pediatric Brain Tumor Research Guild, would not be surprised to find a link between cell phones and brain tumors. "When I was in college, I used to charge my cell phone at night, and the charger cord ran over a leaf of my philodendron plant," she says. "Over time, the strip on the leaf where the cord touched turned brown. The small amount of power running through the cord was enough to kill some cells of the otherwise healthy plant."
While Rock's tale is merely metaphorical, its suggestive import is not lost on Devra Davis, Ph.D., a huge admirer of Lai's work to raise awareness about the potential hazards of cell phone radiation. Davis is a longtime toxicologist, public health expert and founder of the Wyoming-based Environmental Health Trust, a group that provides basic research and training on environmental health hazards. Davis' most recent book, released last October, is Disconnect: The Truth About Cell Phone Radiation. Davis calls Lai a "hero" for his groundbreaking work. "[Lai] has made a tremendous impact on the field in many aspects. Not just on the field of DNA, but on the brain, on receptors. In a fair and just world he would be a serious candidate for the Nobel Prize, because he did foundational research on the way the body responds to electromagnetic and radiofrequency radiation and because he persisted in the face of many challenges. He's been outstanding and indomitable in the face of opposition that would have overwhelmed most people."
In her book, Davis describes a disconnect between the general public's largely unquestioning acceptance of cell phone radiation and the large body of evidence suggesting cause for concern. With Lai's work as her foundation, Davis demonstrates a pattern of the cell phone industry's scientific manipulation spanning decades. Davis is particularly concerned because the rate of cell phone use by children is skyrocketing—with three out of four 12-year-olds and half of 10-years-olds in the U.S. now possessing a cell phone. Even more troubling: Lennart Hardell, Ph.D., a researcher in Sweden, found that those who began using cell phones in their teens (such as Rock) had four to five times the number of malignant tumors by their late 20s as those who did not use cell hones as teenagers.
While Davis would argue that there is a proven, causal link between cell phones and tumors, Lai does not. What he does say is that there is enough reason for concern, and that a "precautionary principle" should be embraced, as France has done in warning against cell phone use by children, and as San Francisco has done in mandating information on "specific absorption rates" of radiation on cell phone packaging.
"European countries generally believe you need some kind of precautionary approach," says Lai, who does not own—or use—a cell phone. "What else can we do? Obviously, we don't know the answer at all. But, then, there is a cause for concern. We need to take some kind of precautionary action." For now, however, Lai will continue to do research on the drug artemisinin—long used by Chinese herbalists—for applications in cancer treatment, because there is no longer any independent funding available for his research on the effects of nonionizing radiation.
Meanwhile, Davis, who uses a cell phone but only with a headset or as a speakerphone (she never keeps it close to her body), hopes that by the time the public realizes the importance of the path Lai has been on, it won't be too late. In Disconnect, she wonders how our grandchildren will answer these questions: "Did we do the right thing and act to protect them? Or did we harm them needlessly, irresponsibly and permanently, blinded by the addictive delights of our technological age?"

Autism may be Linked to Electromagnetic Radiation Levels In Mother's Bedroom During Pregnancy

Pilot Study Finds Over 20x Higher Microwave Power Density Levels in Mothers' Sleeping Locations During Pregnancy
http://electromagnetichealth.org/media-stories/
Incidence of autistic babies has increased from 1 in 150 in 2002 to an estimated 1 in 50 babies today. Dr. Dietrich Klinghart, MD, PhD of the Institute of Neurobiology in Seattle recently conducted a pilot study to assess the potential role of electromagnetic frequencies in the dramatic rise in autism and other neurological impairments over the past decade. Various measurements of electromagnetic radiation exposure were assessed in the case of 10 children with neurological impairment, 8 categorized with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Data was obtained for:
1) Mothers' Body Voltage in the mothers' sleeping location during pregnancy;
2) Child's Body Voltage in current sleeping location;
3) Microwave Power Density in mothers' sleeping location during pregnancy (microwatt/square meter); and
4) Child's Microwave Exposure in current sleeping location.
Data for mothers with neurologically impaired children were contrasted with similar data for 5 healthy children and their mothers.
The results were as follows:

Body Voltage Levels:
Median Body Voltage Level in Mom's Bed During Pregnancy*
                                                                   Value                 Range
Neurologically Impaired Children      1,872 milliVolts              (380-6,040)
Healthy Group                                  224  milliVolts                (12-480)
8.4x Higher Body Voltage Levels in Mom's with
Neurologically Impaired Children
*Note research shoes whatever the Body Voltage of the Mom, it is even higher in the fetus.

Body Voltage of Child in Current Bed Location
                                                                     Value               Range
Neurologically Impaired Children         1,028  milliVolts         (420-4,900)
Healthy Group                                       120 milliVolts            (0-230)
8.5x Higher Body Voltage in Neurologically Impaired
Child's Sleeping Location

Microwave Exposure:
Microwave Power Density in Sleeping Location
Neurologically Impaired Children-Mom's Bed       mw/sq. meter          Range
Exposure In Pregnancy                                               290                 (110-1,710)
Healthy Group                                                             14                      (0-67)

20.7x Higher Microwave Power Density in Mom's Sleeping
Location In Cases Where Children Were Neurologically Impaired

This pilot data strongly suggests that electromagnetic radiation in the sleeping environment of mothers during pregnancy, as well as electromagnetic radiation in the sleeping environment of children, may be key undiscovered contributing if not causative factors in neurological impairments in children, including autism. Given increasing levels of ambient electromagnetic radiation in modern environments from society's use of electronic equipment, wireless technologies, such as cell phones and wireless networks, high frequency transients on electric lines, and broadband over power lines (BPL), this association needs immediate further exploration.

Dear Editor
In his opinion piece, your reporter, Mr. Stinson has failed to investigate the harm caused by electrification during the last century and has failed to investigate the adverse health effects caused by electro magnetic radiation, over the last sixty years.  As a result he has reported inaccurate facts which may be very harmful to many of your readers.  If you have an investigative reporter or editor (Dianne Francis is my first choice) who is willing to fully examine the facts, I can provide evidence to show that Stinson is failing to see the one of the most serious environmental threats that the world faces today.

Please be willing to examine and report on some of the research documents that I can provide you.

Cell Phone Radiation: Facts & Health Risks you should know

http://b4tea.com/food-health/cell-phone-radiation-facts-health-risks-you-should-know

The recent studies and debates have made to prove one simple fact again and again that higher the growth in technology, greater is its harmful effects. A well known and widely used example is the Cell phones. It seems that besides the extreme benefits of cell phones, they have a simultaneous or parallel link that is directly proportional to harmful effects too.

Cell Phone Radiation: Facts & Health Risks you should know

But it is a quite natural truth that the cell phone companies are never going to accept the flaws of their side. There are still harsh debates going on between the two sides. The ill effects caused by cell phones are proven, though there are still people who argue and justify that the cell phones have none other than positive aspects alone.

Over the two years of time continuous experiments are ongoing to reveal the shocking truths about the radiation hazards of cell phone radiations to the world. One of the basic ideas that cause extreme danger to the biological system is that actually these cell phones operate on amplitude modulated signals.

Since these signals operate on lower frequencies it results in generation of heat that deteriorates the calcium layer of the brain. This depletion of the brain membrane leads your one and only brain to drastic changes that will ultimately destroy the brain function for sure.

Apart from this primary hazard there are still loads of harmful effects that queue up regarding the impacts of danger. Since these communicative bodies have become one of the inseparable parts of our daily life it is very essential for everyone to be aware of the ill effects that alarm your health. The upcoming hazardous effects of cell phone radiations are damage to visual parts like retina, deterioration of white blood cells, muscle disorders, rashes, radiation from the cell phone can cause DNA damage and impair the DNA repair process.

The cell phones interrupt the proper functioning of cardiac pacemakers. The radiation from the cell phone increases the risk of brain dysfunction, tumors, cancer (oncogenesis), autism, attention deficit disorder and neurodegenerative disease.

In children, the mobile phone radiation causes behavioral and psychological problems. Even "Blue tooth" or "hands free" are in no way inferior to the harmful radiation factor. But everyone have a pseudo belief that these accessories will help you stay away from the radiation hazards from the cell phones. Well the truth is not so. It actually magnifies the nature of the radiation because the headset serves as an antenna to receive all electromagnetic waves within the limit of the user.

Though pages and pages we read or volumes or volumes of information they hear, people are very rare to accept or believe. Of course usage of cell phones are unavoidable nowadays but absolutely can be minimized to some extent. Exposure from the cell phone towers have also resulted in cardiac arrhythmia and palpitations.

With no surprises this can be the major reason for the steep increase in the number of people witnessing ill effects like Alzhiemer, autism and attention deficit disorders in recent statistical analysis. The fact is that several studies have already shown that cell phone radiation has effects considered harmful to the user, and the customers need to know of this so that they can take proper precautions to protect themselves.

Race for mayor begins

August 5, 2010
Jeff Heuchert

http://www.stratfordgazette.com/news/article/91103

A second candidate has thrown their hat into the mayoral race in Stratford. Martin Weatherall has filed his papers and will vie for the city's top spot in this October's municipal election.

Weatherall believes the single biggest issue in this election is the risk the city's residents face from exposure to electro magnetic radiation, in particular, microwave radiation from wireless devices.

He notes the recent push for a city-wide Wi-Fi system and the installation of the new smart metres, both of which he says emit strong levels of microwave radiation, has greatly increased the danger to Stratford residents.

"Electromagnetic radiation is probably going to hurt more people in the next few years than anything else around. It's probably the worst environmental problem we face," he adds.

Weatherall, co-director of Wireless Electrical and Electromagnetic Pollution, a Canadian, non-profit organization, says he made up his mind to run for mayor after he took his concerns to city council last month, where he presented information he says is based on thousands of scientific reports which document the serious health effects from exposure to such things as cellphones, radios and power lines.

The city has done nothing to stop implementation of these systems or find a safe alternative, he says.

"This is very dangerous for the whole environment of the city. It could affect animals, birds, even plants and trees," adds Weatherall.

If elected, he says he would do everything possible to make sure the city's residents are aware of potential risks so they can take action to protect themselves the best they can.

He would also like to see the city do away with wireless Internet access in some of its public buildings, such as the library and arena.

"Kids are going in there to play sports," he says, of the Rotary Complex, "they shouldn't be subjected to strong microwave radiation."

Weatherall served seven years with the British Royal Navy and two years as a British press photographer. He served 28 years with the Toronto Police Service, first as a uniformed officer and later as a crime scene investigator.

He notes he has experience representing the public, having been elected to the  Toronto Police Association.

Now retired, he moved to Stratford in March of last year.

Weatherall says he would bring a common sense approach to municipal politics.

"I've dealt with emergency situations throughout my career. I've dealt with situations that need long-term thought (such as) major investigations."

Weatherall says he is also concerned about the city's long-term debt and high property taxes. He adds that he will also encourage development of new sustainable industries and work to ensure empty factories become productive again.

EMFs in Cars

I recently posed a question about car EMFs, to Alasdair Phillips of Powerwatch UK ( http://www.powerwatch.org.uk/ ) he kindly supplied this knowledgeable answer and allowed me to pass this information to WEEP readers:

Hi Alasdair

Have you any idea what they are talking about when they state the Earth's magnetic field is 500mG?

This is from a Consumers Report story about car EMFs.

Martin

(We can't say whether the EMF levels we measured have any significance to people's health or not. Even the highest reading we got, 30 mG in the Cobalt, doesn't seem that high in the grand scheme of things. The Earth's magnetic field, to which all of us are subject, has a strength of 500 mG--many times what we measured in any of our cars.)

http://blogs.consumerreports.org/cars/2010/08/mythbuster-emf-levels-in-hybrids-.html

------------------------------------------------------------------

Reply from Alasdair:

Hi Martin

The 500 mG figure is reasonable for the Earth's geomagnetic static (DC) field. The Earth's static geomagnetic field varies from about 300 mG on the Equator to about 600 mG as you get close to the poles. Europe is typically about 500 mG (50 microtesla).

That does not really relate in any way to the a.c. ELF time-varying magnetic field that they were measuring in the cars.

Worse than that, they only measured at the driver's position.  Often the batteries are in the trunk/boot to spread the weight load and the cables run up the centre of the car close to the front passenger's seat and then under the rear seat.  So they should have mapped out where the cables were for each car and where the magnetic fields were for each car.  Near the driver's foot, ELF magnetic fields are usually dominated by magnetic fields from the rotating front tyre (see link below).

Worse than that, they only measured ELF magnetic fields and they do not specify which meter they used and what its frequency response was.  Some meters only measure around 50 to 60 Hz.  That would have been useless.

Some go from about 30 Hz to 1 or 2 kHz.  That would be much better.

Some hybrids have significant levels up to over 20 kHz - which require a VLF meter.

As frequency increases the equivalent magnetic field decreases:

100 mG  at 50 Hz induces the same as

50 mG    at 100 Hz

25 mG    at 200 Hz

12.5 mG at  400 Hz

6.25 mG at 800 Hz

3.12 mG at 1600 Hz

1.56 mG at 3.2 kHz

0.76 mG at 6.4 kHz

0.38 mG at 12.8 kHz

0.19 mG at 25.6 kHz

So it is very important that the testers understand what they are doing!

Some much better information is available here, though they don't address the ELF/VLF issue:

I hope this helps.

Best regards

Pollack, H. and J. Healer.  1967.  Review of the Information on Hazards to Personnel from High-Frequency Electromagnetic Radiation. Institute for Defense Analyses, Research and Engineering Support Division.  Internal Note N-451, IDA/HQ 67-6211, Series B, copy 5 of 15, 15 pages.

SUMMARY

Foreign and domestic literature on biological effects of electromagnetic radiation has been examined for information relating to safety criteria. Emphasis was placed on obtain relevant information on frequencies below 300 mc, most particularly on the high frequency (3 - 30 mc) region.  This information is reviewed and evaluated.

Note:  mc refers to millions of cycles per second or MHz.

SIGNIFICANCE

This document, dated one year after the United States adopted the 10 mW/cm2 standard for military and occupational exposure in the United States (See Pick of the Week #2), was written by a medical doctor who reviewed literature from the Tri-Services Conferences and English translations of research conducted in Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Czechoslovakia, and the former Soviet Union.

The most important paragraph in this document is the last one, which recommends the following: "to the extent practical, a conservation approach to safety criteria (approaching the USSR standards) be applied, particularly where hazards to non-controlled personnel may be involved." This conclusion is based on the finding that for both microwave (300 MHz to 300 GHz) and lower frequencies (0.01 to 300 MHz) "limited clinical studies of humans and controlled animal experiments present evidence of harmful effects at intensities considerably lower than 10 mW/cm2."      . . . continued . . . www.magdahavas.com

More wireless madness

From: Mark G

Subject: EHS Warning: Kenmore Elite Dehumidifier...! Forward to warn others?

Hello EHS Friends,

Just wanted to give you a heads up about a major radiator of RF Fields.

I was doing a survey at someone's home using an Aaronia HF Detektor II Profi RF device and after I shut off all the usual sources of RF (Wi-FI, DECT Phones, Laptop, etc.) I kept seeing the massive burst of RF energy every 5 or 6 seconds on the meter...It goes right to the top of the meter on every scale near it and even floors away was quite detectable...the speaker on the meter really went nuts too.

Anyway, I know this geographic area well and I know the major external sources, so it was very confounding at first, because it was not something I had ever run across in the past.

Turns out that Sears Kenmore makes a Dehumidifier in their Kenmore Elite lineup that broadcasts to a REMOTE little screen to let the user know how full the water bucket is, so if the dehumidifer is in the basement, the user will know when to empty it.

What was most surprising is that even when the dehumidifier is TURNED OFF completely, it still broadcasts at the same rate -- every few seconds or so....It had to be unplugged to stop it completely. It was plugged in and unplugged several times to confirm that this was the source.

Now, I didn't have the manual for it and was in a hurry to fix other issues at the site (major EMF's from bad wiring in a relatively new house...!), so there may be a way of toggling the wireless off -- but the fact that it was transmitting even when off is really not too good and there was no obvious way to turn it off.

SO....ADD Wireless Dehumidifiers to the list of intentional RF generators.

Here is the exact unit:

http://www.kenmore.com/shc/s/p_10154_12604_04290701000P

I suspect there are other models from other manufacturers that do the same thing.

Anyway...just wanted all to know that this is a rather intense and potentially vexxing source of RF.

Best to all,

Mark G.

Letter to Member of Parliament

From: Carl Katz
Date: Sun, May 2, 2010

Subject: Email From Former Kerrisdale Constituent Carl Katz

To: MurraJ@parl.gc.ca

Dear Ms. Murray,

You may remember me from a meeting we had at your office in June 2008. My friend and colleague Milt Bowling also attended that meeting.

I brought to your attention the fact that I had become ill while living just a few blocks away from your office in Kerrisdale, specifically that I had become Electrohypersensitive living in close proximity to three buildings that have cell phone transmitters on them.

At the time I was experiencing a myriad of neurological symptoms, including disturbed sleep, constant tinnitus, headaches, warmth and tingling in my extremities, problems with memory and fatigue just to name a few. I may have even related how my family doctor told me that he had another patient who was experiencing the same symptoms when in close proximity to cell towers and other wireless technologies. I would assert that there are many more people, estimated at between 5% and 20% of the population, experiencing these symptoms. They likely have no idea what is causing their distress.

Last November (2009) after a lengthy housing search, I moved to a home on acreage in South Surrey. Having distance from cell phone transmitters, Wi-Fi and cordless phones and also taking part in a health intervention program that treats Electrohypersensitivity has had a significant positive impact on my health.

I also may have mentioned that in January 2008, I was diagnosed with what appeared to be a benign brain tumor. Thankfully, subsequent MRI's have shown no growth or change.

Fast forward to May 2010: We now find that children in schools with Wi-Fi are experiencing and self reporting symptoms of Electrohypersensitivity as witnessed in this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-TJXRc5fzo&feature=digest

I understand that you are part of a committee taking part in hearings this past week on the effects of microwave radiation. I remember you mentioning in June 2008 that from your perspective, my reporting of this information was anecdotal and that in your words it would take large numbers of people - 40,000 - as many as those in a typical riding such as Vancouver Quadra, to have enough weight to have the government sit up and take this issue seriously.

At this point in time, I am almost two years farther along in my work and research on this issue. From my perspective, it is clear that there is no mass hysteria or collective psychosomatic phenomenon going on here - there are simply too many of us who have, independently of each other, reported the same constellation of health problems and symptoms. People are getting sick - from cell towers, cell phones, Wi-Fi, cordless phones and still we have no demonstration of action from government showing that they are truly taking this monumental problem seriously.

If government was taking this issue seriously:

- We would see independent health studies in neighborhoods such as Kerrisdale or the West End of downtown comparatively measuring the health of residents living close to towers with those not living around the technology.

- We would see independent health studies on the effects of wireless technologies on brainwaves (EEG), heart rate and other biological processes rather than technical studies that confirm what we already know - that radiation levels from cell towers and Wi-Fi don't exceed Safety Code Six guidelines.

- We would see family doctors engaging in learning how to diagnose and treat Electrohypersensitivity and speaking up about this issue rather than remaining silent.

My ability to earn a living has been severely impacted since being diagnosed as Electrohypersensitive and I am only now starting to figure out how get my income levels back up to where they were a few years ago. I work as an I.T. Support Consultant to medium and small business - not the ideal profession if you are sensitive to wireless technologies.

My ability to parent my two children (who are now 8 and 10 years old) has also been severely impacted by exposure to wireless technologies. In September 2007, at a time when I had 50% time with Zach and Nicole, I had to give up all my time with them for a six week period – I simply could not manage the day to day stress.

It has taken almost 2. 5 years to get back to the point where I can care for them and have close to the 50% time I had. I am truly blessed to have an empathetic co-parent (their mother). The pain my children and I experienced while we had limited time with each other was very hard on all of us. I must also mention how challenging this has been for their mother, a single parent who is also running her own business who stepped up and singlehandedly took on additional time with Zach and Nicole to allow me time to get my health in order.

I have spent tens of thousands of dollars on my health, moving, and other interventions to reduce my exposure. Like others who are Electrohypersensitive, I have had no choice but to "run for cover" to get as far as I can from the city and the dense array of microwave transmitters found there. After 18 months on an Electromagnetic Intervention Program I can now "tolerate" time spent in the city, but often have to spend a day recovering in South Surrey after spending a day the downtown core.

Make no mistake - those of us whose health has been impacted by wireless technologies are the "canaries in the coal mine". There are individuals I know of across the country who simply can no longer have a career or function in society.

This knowledge and awareness has had me working tirelessly with other parents to have Wi-Fi removed from schools and I will not stop until this has been accomplished. I have serious concerns for the health of my children who are currently attending a Wi-Fi'd school in White Rock – the stress and concern are unavoidable considering what I feel like when I am around strong Wi-Fi signals and what I know as a senior  I.T. support technician who has installed at least 100 Wi-Fi networks.

I regularly hear reports on the news of "conflicting evidence" regarding the studies around wireless technologies. When one takes a discerning look at these studies, we find that those that are truly independent and not funded by industry are 80% more likely to find a correlation between ill health and exposure (Dr. Henry Lai). The only way to truly evaluate the value and quality of a study is to take a critical look at the study design.  Looking at the quality and design of industry funded studies versus independently funded studies will confirm that the current independent science is conclusive and that this has been the case for several years.

The Bioinitiative report (www.bioinitiative.com), which has unfortunately been marginalized by the wireless industry, is a "review" of over 2000 peer reviewed, published scientific papers on the health effects and biological effects of microwave radiation from wireless technologies. The authors of the report reached their conclusions based on a review of all these papers. I would assert that the Bioinitiative report is one of the most important documents currently available on this crucial subject. The authors of the report who are public health doctors, Phd's and other scientists, volunteered their time and worked tirelessly in service to humanity.

We in dire need of leaders who will stand up and start taking action to protect us, which is one of the most important roles government plays. I respectfully realize how challenging this is - no one MP or MLA can do this alone. Dr. Keith Martin, MP for Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca has been representing the citizens of Collingwood BC on this issue for a few years. Perhaps his experience as a medical doctor has afforded him a "birds eye" perspective on this huge problem.

I welcome the opportunity to discuss this further  with you.

Please help us protect our children and ourselves.
Sincerely,

Carl Katz

The Wi-Fi database that shamed Google?

http://www.sott.net/articles/show/207796-The-Wi-Fi-database-that-shamed-Google-

Paul Marks
New Scientist
Sat, 01 May 2010 10:25 EDT

By now, most of us in the US, the UK and Australia, plus many elsewhere in Europe, have got used to the fact that images of almost every house on every street are available online for all to see via the Street View facility in Google Maps.

But last week many were shocked to learn that while the advertising giant's camera-equipped cars were zipping past our front doors, they were not just collecting panoramic photos. Wi-Fi antennas on the cars were hunting down wireless computer networks, and equipment inside was recording the networks' names, locations and the unique MAC address of the routers supporting them.

The revelation has, not for the first time, prompted a wave of accusations that Google doesn't care about privacy anywhere near enough.

Map maker

Google says it has collected the data in order to improve the accuracy with which smartphones can pinpoint their location on Google Maps, especially in city centres where GPS may be unreliable.

Cellphone mapping apps can improve matters by drawing on knowledge of which cellphone tower the phone is in contact with, but Google realised that even greater accuracy is possible if the phone can note details of nearby wireless routers. The server supplying Google Maps to the phone can then calculate a precise position.

Millions of smartphone users worldwide have already benefited from Google's database, which has been live in the US since late 2007.

Not so strange

Google is not alone in gathering Wi-Fi data for location purposes. Skyhook Wireless of Boston uses Wi-Fi-scanning cars to provide a similar service, which is used by the default mapping app on some Motorola phones.

Although Google has not made any particular effort to keep its data-gathering activities secret, neither has it declared what it has been doing. It was not until last week that Germany's Federal Commissioner for Data Protection, Peter Schaar, discovered that Street View cars operating in Germany were harvesting Wi-Fi data. He says he had not been made aware of this when he granted Google permission to take photographs for Street View.

In the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office was similarly surprised. Though the commissioner had met Google before Street View cars began patrolling the UK, "at no point did Google make us aware that it would be scanning Wi-Fi too", says ICO spokesman Nick Day. The ICO says it is seeking more information from Google, while Schaar is demanding that the firm delete any Wi-Fi data collected "unlawfully".

Open up

Google's global privacy counsel, Peter Fleischer, says the data protection authorities were not informed of the Wi-Fi trawl because "this is all publicly broadcast information which is accessible to anyone with a Wi-Fi enabled device". No law prohibits its collection, he says. And unlike Street View images, the Wi-Fi data will remain at the data centre providing the mapping service, and will never to be published online, Fleischer says.

The data commissioners have not spelled out the risks of a leak from the Wi-Fi database, and are unlikely to press for laws against Wi-Fi data collection any time soon. But the outcry over Google's now not-so-secret Wi-Fi database leads to a clear conclusion, says Simon Davies, head of pressure group Privacy International. "Keeping the data collection secret was a bad decision from a community relations perspective," he says.

Fleischer seems to agree. "It's clear with hindsight that greater transparency would have been better," he says. When pushing technical boundaries with other people's data, a little openness goes a long way.

UN nuclear agency seeks specifics about Indian radiation incident, offers help

By: Veronika Oleksyn, The Associated Press

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/world/breakingnews/un-nuclear-agency-seeks-specifics-about-indian-radiation-incident-offers-help-92584264.html

VIENNA - The U.N.'s nuclear watchdog said Saturday it is seeking more specifics about a fatal Indian radiation incident and offered help to authorities.

Indian police said Thursday that a scrap dealer who dismantled a machine once used by a Delhi University chemistry class died after being among workers who sawed it open. Seven other workers were treated for radiation exposure.

The case has raised fears about the unregulated disposal of hazardous material in India, where dangerous chemicals and even radioactive waste are often sold to scrap dealers.

The Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency said it first became aware of the "possibility of a serious radiation emergency at Mayapuri in New Delhi" through media reports April 9 and also saw coverage of a scrap yard radiation fatality this past week.

The agency subsequently contacted India's Department of Atomic Energy to request information and to offer the IAEA's help, spokesman Marc Vidricaire said.

Since then, India's Atomic Energy Regulatory Board has notified the Vienna-based agency of the discovery of radioactive materials, he added.

"The notification reported locating and securing multiple Cobalt-60 sources that were described as Category 2 radioactive sources — those that can cause permanent injury to a person handling the material even for a short time without appropriate safety measures and protection," Vidricaire said.

The machine in question — a gamma cell — was dismantled April 8, and the subsequent death and illnesses of the workers sent panic through the western New Delhi neighbourhood where the scrap yard is located. The workers thought the cell was junk and had no idea they were cutting into a container with radioactive contents.

A gamma cell contains the radioactive substance Cobalt-60 and is used to study the effects of gamma rays on chemicals. Gamma rays are electromagnetic waves similar to X-rays.

The IAEA's Incident and Emergency Center "has continued to seek further information on this event, and the IAEA stands ready to assist Indian authorities upon request," Vidricaire said.

Why Medical Authorities Went to Such Extremes to Silence Dr. Andrew Wakefield

Posted by Dr. Mercola | April 10 2010 |

In this interview, Dr. Andrew Wakefield shares his personal and professional insights into a number of topics, from the gut-brain connection so often seen in autistic children, to the safety of a number of childhood vaccines.

But most importantly, he sets the record straight on the harsh criticism he's endured as the author of one of the most controversial vaccine-causing-autism studies ever done.

Note - You will need about one hour to view this video.  It is an eye opener which discusses government incompetence and corporate greed which endangers the public, much like the EMR situation.  Martin

This study examines the effects of vitamin E and an extremey low frequency electromagnetic field (ELF-EMF) and their combination in different time intervals of exposure of vitamin E (tocopherol) on the AT478 murine squamous cell carcinoma line. This study provides insight into the influence of correlations between ELF-EMF and vitamin E supplementation on antioxidant enzyme activity in malignant cells in vitro. Following vitamin E treatment, activity of the antioxidant enzymes is increased in an exposure-dependent manner compared with the untreated group. Application of ELF-EMF alone or with vitamin E increases both superoxide dismutase isoenzymes and glutathione peroxidase activities in comparison to the control group. The results suggest that ELF-EMF alters antioxidative activities of vitamin E in AT478 tumor cells. This study confirms the role of vitamin E in decreasing susceptibility to lipid peroxidation in AT478 tumor cells.

Key Words: reactive oxygen species (ROS) • antioxidative enzyme activities in cancer • lipid peroxidation • vitamin E • extremely low frequency electromagnetic field (ELF-EMF)

Bill would reduce regulation on landline phone providers

By Jason Stein and Larry Sandler of the Journal Sentinel

http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/90546204.html

Posted: April 10, 2010 8:48 p.m. |(1) Comments

Madison — An unlikely coalition of small businesses, unions, consumer groups and mobile telephone companies is trying to put the brakes on a sweeping bill to drop many regulations on Wisconsin's traditional phone companies.

Under the bill that AT&T helped write and is now pushing, state regulators could no longer ensure that landline companies serve all families and businesses in their area and charge them reasonable rates.

"We want to make sure that when we start deregulating industries as critical as telecommunications, the impact of that has been fully examined," said Bill Smith, state director for the National Federation of Independent Business. "Typically, we support less regulation in the marketplace, but we also support fair competition."

Bill supporters such as the Milwaukee Metropolitan Association of Commerce and AT&T, which has 11 lobbyists working the issue during the Legislature's final two weeks, say telephone regulations were last rewritten in 1994 and haven't kept up with changing technology and consumer habits. They say the bill would ensure that shrinking landline businesses no longer face more regulation than upstart competitors such as cell phones.

"The customers are voting with their pocketbooks," said Scott VanderSanden, president of AT&T Wisconsin, which has lost more than half of its landlines over the past decade. "They could easily switch back if they want more regulation. They don't."

Landline phones using traditional copper wires are subject to an added layer of state regulation that doesn't apply to phones using cable television lines, Internet connections or cell phone towers. The state Public Service Commission has the authority to ensure that all landline customers receive adequate service and fair rates.

Under the bill, landline carriers could drop service to any area of the state and retail customers could no longer complain to the commission about service quality, PSC spokeswoman Teresa Weidemann-Smith said. The state Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection would still have some consumer protection powers, including the authority to oversee how companies advertise and contract with customers for services.

Since the bill was introduced in the Legislature on Jan. 22, it has moved through two committees with only one opposing vote.

Concerns raised

Barry Orton, a University of Wisconsin-Madison telecommunications professor, said he was troubled by the heavy involvement of telephone industry lobbyists in drafting the bill.

The Legislative Reference Bureau's drafting file shows the Wisconsin State Telecommunications Association drew up a list of existing laws that the association wanted landline companies such as AT&T exempted from. The chief of staff for the bill's lead sponsor, Sen. Jeff Plale (D-South Milwaukee), gave that list to the legislative attorney drafting the bill.

Lobbyists and lawyers from the association, AT&T and TDS Telecommunications Corp. were involved throughout the drafting process, starting with a Nov. 11 meeting in Plale's office, the file shows.

Industry representatives said their input wasn't improper. Bill Esbeck, executive director of the telecommunications association, said his group was invited to the meeting and had already prepared the list of laws needing an overhaul in 2008, as part of a PSC review of updating the state's telecommunications laws.

"AT&T doesn't write legislation," VanderSanden said. "We answered questions we got from the authors."

But the reference bureau's notes from the Nov. 11 meeting say: "Note that (AT&T attorney David) Chorzempa drafted analysis document and proposed bill language."

Orton, who opposes the bill and reviewed the drafting file, said, "The folks who really should care aren't represented very much, which are the consumers."

Plale called his legislation "the ultimate pro-consumer bill" and said he worked with industry representatives because "telecommunications issues are extremely, extremely complex, and I am not an expert on the technicalities of the law. . . . I turn to people who have that kind of technical knowledge."

But the state's telecommunications experts at the PSC weren't involved in drafting the bill, Weidemann-Smith said. PSC chairman Eric Callisto did send Plale a March 30 memo laying out his concerns about the reduced consumer protections in the bill.

As of mid-2008, the Federal Communications Commission found Wisconsin had 2.3 million landline phones, 744,000 cable- or Internet-based phones, and nearly 4 million cell phones.

That shows that consumers across the state have choices and no longer need heavy-handed regulation to protect their interests, Esbeck said.

But the same FCC report also found that 32% of ZIP codes in Wisconsin have no Internet- or cable-based alternative to traditional landlines. The report didn't address how much of the state is covered by cell phone service.

Orton said he was concerned that some customers in rural areas could lose access to a traditional landline and not have another option. Esbeck said that wouldn't happen and the bill might be amended to ensure that.

"Our member companies are not in any way, shape or form interested in pulling service from any customer," he said.

Jason Stein reported for this story from Madison and Larry Sandler reported from Milwaukee.

Wireless Electrical and Electromagnetic Pollution News

29 March 2010

Hi All

The request below for urgent assistance, was sent to the Canadian Prime Minister nearly two weeks ago.  After a second message was sent, the Prime Ministers Office responded with a message that failed to address the serious concerns mentioned in the letter.

Any intelligent person working in the Prime Ministers office should be able to understand that my letter was not just 'comments' but was a very serious request for urgent action, for a Canadian in great need.

I would be very grateful if you would get involved, to assist Linda and others injured by electro hypersensitivity, by sending your own comments to the Prime Minister pm@pm.gc.ca .

Thanks

Martin Weatherall

-----------------------------------------------------------

Dear Prime Minister

Please note that the purpose of my letter was of a very urgent nature, seeking immediate help for Linda Sepp, whose life is in danger.

Will your office be providing or directing any assistance to her?

Sincerely
Martin Weatherall

Re: Canadian Torture

Dear Prime Minister

The torture of Canadian citizens in foreign lands and the torture of detained persons in Afghanistan has been a cause for major controversy involving the Government of Canada. While that situation is about actions taking place thousands of miles away, many persons 'at home' in Canada, are daily enduring a form of torture yet their plight is being largely ignored.

There is urgent need for the Government to assist these victims here in Canada.

The Government of Canada receives billions of dollars in license fees from companies that use wireless frequencies for cell phones and communication systems. Unfortunately, exposure to those frequencies has caused many Canadians to develop severe environmental and electro magnetic sensitivities. This is causing serious health and financial difficulties for those affected and their families.

Electro hypersensitivity can be a torturous experience. Victims may suffer severely from exposure to electro magnetic radiation, at levels, which the Government deems safe and which is regulated by the Federal Government. Victims constantly have to avoid exposure from electro magnetic fields, electrical fields and electro magnetic radiation to avoid further harm. This is becoming very difficult, as wireless communications and wireless devices are being used everywhere.

Many persons, who suffer from electro hyper-sensitivity (EHS), also suffer from multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS). This combination of EHS and MCS leaves victims in extreme peril. EHS and MCS are environmental sensitivities as recognized by the human rights commission. Some victims consider suicide, instead of enduring the continued torture of their existence. While little research has been done to discover why people become electrically sensitive, most victims can relate their illness to exposure from wireless or electrical sources. Some MCS cases may be caused or significantly affected by electrical and electro magnetic radiation.

I have suffered many of the known symptoms of electro hypersensitivity, which may also be known as microwave illness. Six years ago I retired from the Toronto Police Service and moved to a home where I was unknowingly exposed to dangerous electro magnetic radiation. For many months I experienced the agony associated with electro hypersensitivity.

My symptoms included: not being able to sleep, not being able to think clearly, constant headaches, nausea, ringing in the ears, joint aches, constant feeling of being unwell and cancer. It was like being tortured by dangerous and invisible forces within my own home and within Canada, yet receiving no help or advice from local and federal government departments.

After suffering from many harmful and unpleasant symptoms for a year and developing cancer, I made the difficult decision to leave my home. Within days my health improved, my electro hypersensitivity stabilized. It remains manageable as long as I avoid further strong exposure to electro magnetic fields and electro magnetic radiation. Many electro hypersensitive victims, do not have the financial ability to move from their homes to safety because they cannot work and have very limited income.

There are several people whose lives are in great danger and their suffering is immense. I ask that your government put aside a small percentage of the wireless licensing fees to assist those who are suffering. These victims must be protected from further exposure to electro magnetic radiation.

Through no fault of their own and because of a failure of the government to properly protect them, these persons are enduring a 'living hell' of torture in Canada. These people can be found in every geographic area of Canada and they all need assistance as soon as possible.

Money is needed immediately for safe housing, special treatment clinics, special protective clothing, monitoring equipment and special EMF mitigating equipment. There are people who are unable to attend at doctors' offices and hospitals because the electrical and wireless environment will harm them so badly that they may not recover. There is a need to have 'EMF clean' areas of hospitals where there is no electro magnetic radiation and chemical pollution, so that environmental victims can be treated safely.

There is one particular victim, a woman living in Toronto, Linda Sepp who suffers severely from EHS and MCS and chemically induced Fibromyalgia. She lives in a condemned house that is slated for demolition in the near future.

She needs a home that has no traces of chemicals and things like chemical cleaning products, air fresheners, pesticides and building materials that are found in most homes today. She is unable to tolerate these contaminants and suffers severe reactions which are life threatening.

The Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation has done research on contaminant free homes. They are well aware of how safe housing improves health and provides victims the ability for victims to contribute to society again, for people who are otherwise completely disabled and debilitated.

Linda cannot drink tap water because chlorinamines and PPPC's are poison to her. She cannot wash or shower in tap water because the chlorine burns her skin and causes terrible reactions. She cannot even wash her clothes in tap water because the chlorine residue contaminates her clothes and she cannot wear them. She badly needs a whole house water filtration system to remove these chemicals, but cannot afford it.

She has virtually no clothes. She cannot wear clothes that have any traces of chemicals and this means that she can only use untreated natural cotton which is very expensive and she cannot afford. She needs to have a washing machine which has never been contaminated with commercial scented, chemical washing detergents or clothing which contained contaminants.

Her home must be safe from electrical fields and electro magnetic radiation.

Linda cannot live close to people who use chemicals and or other sources of airborne pollution. She must be housed away from any exposure that may come from homes nearby, such as clothes dryer vents.

Linda's health is very poor and quickly getting worse. Her condemned home has a serious mold problem that is causing a deterioration of her health, and is aggravating her environmental sensitivities. She only has a very short time before she faces eviction. This is an emergency situation that needs leadership and decisive action to help a Canadian citizen in great need. I ask that you provide all possible assistance to Linda, as soon as possible, so that her torture can be lessened and her life saved.

There are several others across Canada that badly need help but I ask you to assist Linda Sepp first as she is the person with greatest needs and who is in most danger. I have attached a letter that was written previously by Dr. Marshall, an environmental health specialist who was trying to assist Linda with accommodation issues. Her letter puts Linda's difficulties and the urgency of her situation into better perspective.

Dear Mr. Akler:

Re: Linda Sepp

Ms. Sepp was assessed by Dr. Hans Christian Raabe and myself in the Environmental Health Clinic in November, 2005. Ms. Sepp suffers from multiple severe allergies and environmental sensitivities, as well as fibromyalgia, conditions which are permanent, although their severity may vary according to the patient's exposure to triggering agents. Ms. Sepp has corresponded with me by e-mail, since she can no longer travel to the clinic, and, in any case, has had the maximum visits we can provide.

If Ms. Sepp is exposed to allergens or triggers such as in scented products, laundry and cleaning products, carpeting, particle-board, pesticides, moulds, wireless technologies, etc. she suffers from inability to concentrate, poor memory, profound fatigue and muscle weakness that makes it difficult for her to walk, migraine headaches, and generalized muscle pain.

In order to avoid repeated episodes of such severe symptoms, Ms. Sepp must avoid exposure to her allergens and chemical and electromagnetic triggers.

My understanding is that she is in urgent need of safe housing, a situation she has been unable to rectify since I saw her in 2005, and that her health has deteriorated considerably since then. In my opinion, from my further communication with her, if Ms. Sepp is unable to live in safe housing to meet her special needs, it is probable she will require ongoing help and assistance with activities of daily living. As it is, she requires assistance when shopping for groceries due to her deteriorating health and the increased use of strong fragrance and air freshener chemicals being used and sold in grocery stores, some of which cannot be effectively removed from areas they have been used.

Ms. Sepp is unable to use a public or shared laundromat due to the chemicals used in regular laundry products, which severely impair her ability to function. She requires her own washing machine at home to avoid these triggering substances.

She also requires whole house water filtration (like that available in the Environmental Health Clinic, Dallas) to filter all the water including for cooking and drinking, as well as for washing clothes and bedding.

In order to make the indoor air safer for her to breathe, she needs to have at least 2 or 3 high quality air filtration units with activated carbon and HEPA filters (without harmful glues) to remove the volatile organic compounds which contribute to her illness.

Since avoidance of allergens and triggers is the most important factor in treatment, it is also necessary for this patient to sleep in an environment free of allergens and triggers.

This necessitates a bedroom dedicated to sleeping only and a second bedroom for other things like clothing, and her desk and computer, as well as private storage, preferably vented, private ensuite laundry, and private handicapped accessible parking.

Most existing social housing units have shared or common air space and hallways, which would expose Ms. Sepp to ongoing allergens and triggers, as well as to wireless technologies, which I understand now also trigger her symptoms.

She cannot share air with other people, either by HVAC or through cracks in units or shared hallways and requires a detached two bedroom home in a chemically safe area.

In my view, it is urgent that some mechanism be found to assist Ms. Sepp to locate a suitable home to prevent even more suffering and deterioration in her already extremely compromised health.

Most of us are aware about the dangers of mercury.  This video / article points out the significant dangers of aluminum.  There is good reason to believe that aluminum may also be related to electro sensitivity.
