Wireless Radiation Safety Council (WRSC) Press Conference Materials

W.E.E.P. News

Wireless Electrical and Electromagnetic Pollution News

19 April 2011

Hi All

There is so much important information attached to this message that it is being sent separate from the regular WEEP news. I hope that you will read all the information and then find your own methods of distributing it, to make everybody's lives and the environment safer.

I suggest that relevant documents be provided to all your Local and National Newspapers, Magazines, TV and Radio Stations so that the press is fully aware of this important initiative.

Documents should be provided to Pupils, Teachers, Schools and Education Boards in your area, along with a challenge for them to stop using Wi Fi, or to not implement it in the future and to make this an important election issue.

Your Hospitals, Doctors offices, Clinics, Health Officials and Health Ministries should also be provided with Wi Fi documents and questioned about their use of wireless technologies and whether they make their facilities safe.

Do not forget your Friends and Families. This is good solid information that they should be able to understand and act upon.

If you are a person who has stayed in the background and never been involved in EMF / EMR activism, now is the time to get involved, even if you just forward the information to others, your help would be much appreciated. The invisible electrical pollution that we are all exposed to is rapidly getting worse. Now is the time to lend a hand and get involved.

Our thanks go to all the people who have taken the effort to put all this material together and then made it available for everyone's benefit.

Regards

Martin Weatherall

Bluetooth standard for e-health

http://www.ehi.co.uk/news/primary-care/4921

Bluetooth chosen as Continua standard

10 June 2009 Jon Hoeksma

Industry health interoperability standards group Continua Health Alliance has selected Bluetooth wireless technology as a key standard for its next set of design guidelines.

Continua's Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) said that the upcoming Bluetooth low energy wireless technology specification would be included in version two of its Continua Health Alliance design guidelines.

Bluetooth low energy technology is a power efficient, short-range, wireless technology that offers connectivity between mobile devices and small, battery powered devices such as watches, and health and fitness sensors.

The low energy technology features low power consumption, small size and low cost, and integration in mobile phones, making it suitable to enable mobile devices for a wide range of personal telehealth devices and services being developed using Continua standards.

The technology can enable low power mobile devices such as activity monitors and heart rate sensors to be used to monitor a user's health and fitness levels.

"Continua's choice of Bluetooth low energy technology – a specification in development at this time and expected to be adopted by the end of the year – underscores the excitement and need for this Bluetooth wireless standard in the telehealth arena," said Michael Foley, PhD, executive director, Bluetooth SIG.

Bluetooth is the only wireless technology included in Continua's design guidelines. The low energy wireless technology was chosen over several other wireless technologies after a rigorous 10-month review process.

"The Bluetooth SIG brings not only a superb wireless technology to our Design Guidelines, but a state-of-the-art testing and qualification program to our members," said Rick Cnossen, Continua president and chairman of the Board of Directors. "The continued choice to work with Bluetooth wireless technology and the Bluetooth SIG is a natural extension for Continua."

The radio selection process was conducted by members of the Continua low power radio sub-team, the Continua technical working group and the Continua board of directors. All teams were aided by experts from the technology and health care industries-at-large, as well as guided by research conducted by an independent third party analysis firm.

A rigorous process was employed over the course of 10 months to select from many outstanding technologies. After consideration of required power levels, cell phone ubiquity, required range, and anticipated market penetration, Bluetooth technology was chosen to satisfy the required use cases.

Following is the press release which will be sent out on Sunday morning at 6:00 am eastern to media contacts across Canada.

On Sunday afternoon at the Toronto Health Expo a statement will be presented accusing the current government of ignoring the recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee on Health (HESA) and, thereby, showing contempt for the Canadian public. It will include a report card for each party, with grades for support of our battle against Health Canada, Industry Canada and the telecommunication industry.

Much of the grade is based on the various parties' recommendations for support (NDP and the Bloc Quebecois) or not (Liberal and Conservative) of the HESA recommendations which came from the hearings.

You can read the recommendations in the HESA report of Dec. 2010, which will be on the website soon. This is the first salvo in this political battle. The statement and the report card will be available at the website on Sunday afternoon. Our new website is

www.wirelessradiationsafety.com.

As you all know, we are a new group with a new website still being built. We have an amazing advisory board. Please make suggestions for what you would like included, how you want communciations to occur, how you would see the Council developing, etc. This is our national coalition, and it will take all of us to make the difference we all want.

Wireless Radiation Safety Council Gives Failing Grade to Harper Conservatives

Toronto - The Harper Conservatives took home an F for failing to protect children`s health, the Wireless Radiation Safety Council announced today.

The newly formed Council has graded all five federal parties from A to F, with the Conservatives receiving the worst grade.

``During the Conservative`s tenure Canada`s Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health tried to address the increasing problem of human exposure to microwave radiation from cell phones, cell towers and WiFi in schools, `` announced Francois Therrien, a member of the Council. ``The Conservatives held a majority on that committee but they failed to act decisively to protect Canadians from this emerging public health disaster,`` he said.

The Wireless Radiation Safety Council will reveal the report cards received by all federal parties this afternoon during a public lecture on 21st Century Education, the Hazards of a Wireless School.

LEGISLATOR'S GUIDE TO WARNING LABELS ON CELL PHONES

Dearest People,

My gosh, this year has FLOWN by!!  We are very excited to announce the publication our new paper...

THE LEGISLATOR'S GUIDE TO WARNING LABELS ON CELL PHONES AND THE LAYMAN'S GUIDE TO NON-THERMAL EFFECTS FROM CELL PHONES AND OTHER WIRELESS PRODUCTS AND INFRASTRUCTURE.

You can upload the paper here...

http://www.thepeoplesinitiative.org/uploads/Non_Thermal_Paper_10-10A.pdf

We hope it helps those of you out there who are wanting to take actions on this issue.  This paper was recently used to assist the state of Oregon in introducing the first ever NON-THERMAL language warning label in the world!!  The significance of this is enormous, as non-thermal is what is causing all the problems with wireless products and infrastructure and also what is ignored in current cell phone, WIFI, smart meter and cell tower/antenna safety standards.  It is based on acute exposure and heat as opposed to no heat and prolonged exposure.  We will send notification out once the language has officially been posted on the state of Oregon's government website.  We hope you will find this paper helpful in any educational or legislative action you may wish to take on this issue.  And remember, we are always here to help and support...speaking of which, if you would like to support further efforts and endeavors to this end, it is still not too late to make a tax deductible donation on our website.  Just go to our home page and scroll down to the bottom of the left hand column (we couldn't post the donate URL here, it's too long).  Our IRS letter has also been posted should you need it for your records.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Sincerely, Liz

KPR Board looks at technology plan

It is apparent that the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board has adopted an Instructional Technology Plan worth 12 million plus the cost of SMART boards, notebooks, iPods, and lapstops. As Mr. Hick said in the September meeting, if wireless goes then the whole plan crumbles and they have no intention of letting the key component of the plan--wireless--go.

These items will appear in the next KPRDSB budget.

San Clemente's City Council will gather more information about a new technology that's coming to town – smart meters – and may ask San Diego Gas & Electric to hold off on installing them on every home and business here until questions can be aired.

"Can we wait?" Mayor Lori Donchak asked at Tuesday night's council meeting. The council has scheduled a discussion for its Feb. 1 meeting.

01.spn.smart.meters.1216.pb 12/16/2010 Paul Bersebach, The Orange County Register

The mayor said she spent much of the weekend reading materials and viewing YouTube videos about how smart meters – wireless electric meters that power companies install on homes – have become an issue in some Northern California cities and around the country, with questions raised about health effects on people sensitive to radio-frequency emissions and whether wireless technology poses privacy issues.

SDG&E says the meters are well within FCC guidelines and the utility company has rolled out 1.8 million of them in San Diego County with minimal response from customers. The utility says smart meters don't require monthly visits to the home and can help people understand their energy consumption to help reduce energy use.

The City Council agreed to air the issue, which San Clemente resident Sandi Aders has raised from the floor at the last three council meetings. She told the council that she is extremely electro-sensitive and moved to San Clemente after being driven from her home in Idaho after a smart meter was installed there, only to learn recently that smart meters are to be installed here.

Aders said there can be insomnia, fatigue, heart problems, tinnitus and a host of other effects. She said that while the electric emissions are similar to Wi-Fi, which is found in many homes and businesses, residents with Wi-Fi have a choice whether to install it in their home.

"If you don't want them, fight, fight, fight," she said at Tuesday night's meeting. "This is going to change your life, if you are susceptible, and you'll end up electrically sensitive like me."

Donchak said she wants to learn more about California Assembly Bill 37, which could give customers a choice to opt out, together with the questions being raised in some other communities.

Duane Cave, utility spokesman, said "we are scheduled to begin our installations for San Clemente in late January or early February. We have been installing smart meters throughout our service territory for the last year and a half, Orange County is the last district in our service territory to have smart meters installed."

Powerwatch Message

Many thanks to all of you who have taken an interest in the debate around electromagnetic fields throughout 2010. As the year closes, we've seen the end of the second phase of the Stakeholder Advisory Group on Extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields, an insightful new book published by Devra Davis, the beginnings of evidence that even the Interphone data is showing a potential long term health risk from phone use, IARC identifying melatonin disruption as a probable carcinogen (and one the has been linked to EMF exposure), and another 150 or so new scientific papers of interest.

It's good to see so much research being carried out on such an important topic, and we hope that 2011 will progress our state of knowledge further still, so that policy makers can adopt reasoned guidance and the general public can make informed decisions for their own use. In the meantime, it's time to enjoy the festive period at the end of the year and make the most of the break and the weather.

From all of us at Powerwatch, we wish you a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year, and healthy start to 2011.

Why using a computer can cause depression

OLINKA KOSTER, Daily Mail

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-153281/Why-using-cause-depression.html#ixzz14NXEPDZR

Sitting in front of a computer screen for five hours a day can dramatically increase the risk of depression and insomnia, new research suggests.

Previous studies have focused on how too much screen time can cause physical afflictions, such as headaches, eye strain, and backache.

Now one of the biggest ever investigations into the hazards of computers in the workplace has concluded that they can also damage mental health.

In a three-year survey of 25,000 workers, many complained of feeling depressed, anxious and reluctant to get up for work in the mornings.

They were also plagued by broken sleep and reported problems getting along with fellow employees.

The study by researchers at Chiba University in Japan, concluded that bosses should limit the time their staff spend on computers.

Lead researcher Dr Tetsuya Nakazawa said: ' This result suggests the prevention of mental disorders and sleep disorders requires the restriction of computer use to less than five hours a day.'

The results, published in the American Journal of Industrial Medicine, showed one in four staff spent at least five hours a day at their terminal.

Once they crossed that threshold, the dangers of psychological disorders setting in appeared to increase dramatically.

British experts said working alone at a computer for hours on end could lead to a sense of isolation, even in a busy office.

Psychology Professor Cary Cooper from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology said concern was growing over mental health problems caused by working with computers.

'We are finding that people are working with machines as opposed to other people,' he said. 'The problem is not just sitting in front of a computer but the fact that people don't take a break and cannot prioritise what they are doing.

'They are overloaded then they worry about the work they are not doing.

'People are not interacting with each other and the longer you do that, the less work meets your social needs.'

Professor Brian Shackel, from Loughborough University, agreed: ' Even in a full office, the likelihood is staff would have targets to meet, so the opportunities for social chit-chat would be considerably diminished.'

Dr Nakazawa insisted the findings were not just due to staff being in repetitive jobs.

'They performed different types of work,' he said. 'The computers were different, as were the working environments. Even so, our results were extremely consistent over a three-year period.'

A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive said bosses had a duty under the 1974 Health and Safety Act to protect the mental as well as physical health of staff, even though psychological damage was harder to prove.

Doctors for Safer Skies and Safer Schools

Drs. Stephen Sinatra (MD) and Kerry Crofton (PhD)  have recently initiated two new associations:

1.  Doctors for Safer Skies
2.  Doctors for Safer Schools

Both are very much needed and timely. We now have full-body scans at airports and WiFi on airplanes.  We also have more schools installing wireless internet access (WiFi).  Students, teachers, pilots and flight attendants as well as those who work at airports have no one to speak on their behalf about the harmful effects of this radiation since the federal government in both Canada and the US is unwilling to admit that the current levels may be harmful.

We need doctors speaking out about this issue and these two associations can play a very important role in this respect.

Parents share their Wi-Fi fears

By BRENDAN WEDLEY , EXAMINER STAFF WRITER

http://www.thepeterboroughexaminer.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=2880576

A group of parents s push to get the local public school board to halt the phasing in of wireless Internet technology in schools with a public information session Tuesday night.

Several guest speakers spoke to about 75 people at the meeting held at Westdale United Church on Sherbrooke St.

The organizers played a Global News show on the Wi-Fi debate that featured the campaign in Peterborough as well as other cases across the country.

Magda Havas, a Trent University associate professor who conducts electromagnetic radiation research, spoke about the concerns about using Wi-Fi in schools.

No one has the definitive answer on whether using Wi-Fi, which wirelessly connects computers to each other and to the Internet, in schools is safe, Havas said.

"We do have evidence suggesting that it might not be safe and this is why so many people are concerned," she said. "We don't want children to be used as guinea pigs while we determine whether or not they're reacting immediately in terms of heart palpitations or later on in terms of cancer."

Havas told the audience about cases of people who are sensitive to electromagnetic radiation.

"Students and teachers are getting sick in schools with Wi- Fi," she said.

Peterborough medical officer of health Dr. Rosana Pellizzari has said there is no consistent evidence that exposure to radio frequency signals from wireless networks has an adverse impact on the general population.

Havas criticized Health Canada's regulations for exposure to radiation from wireless technology, pointing to much lower limits established by some other countries.

Havas mentioned that in the last three years two students in the Barrie area died from sudden cardiac arrest.

Someone in the audience immediately questioned whether Havas was saying that Wi-Fi caused the cardiac arrests.

Havas responded that she wasn't suggesting it was caused by Wi-Fi but the incidence of sudden cardiac arrest is high in this region.

"Much of this is associated with exercise and both of them have been revived," she said. "We need to find out what it is, whether it's a genetic problem or whether it's something that they're exposed to."

Kim Muzatko, who has a five-year- old son in a local school, wants the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board to not install Wi-Fi in schools.

"I'm concerned that there's no evidence that it's safe," she said as she left the meeting. "We need to learn from history that we shouldn't rush ahead with things."

Muzatko added that Internet provided through hard wires is faster and more reliable than wireless Internet.

"I really can't see the benefit of risking it," she said.

Adults are responsible for protecting children, Havas said.

"It's really important for us to take a stand and to protect them as much as we possibly can and to err on the side of caution," she said. "We can't afford to make a mistake when it comes to the health of children in schools."

Subject: Huffman Introduces Bill to Require Smart Meter Opt-Out

California Assembly member Jared Huffman has introduced legislation (AB 37) to allow customers to opt out of wireless Smart Meters.

http://sananselmofairfax.patch.com/articles/huffman-introduces-bill-to-require-smart-meter-opt-out

Assemblymember Jared Huffman announced today that he is introducing a bill that would require the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to provide a way for consumers to opt-out of PG&E's Smart Meter program.

The inability of residents to not receive the new digital, wireless meters has been a sticking point for critics who are concerned about health, security, privacy and accuracy issues around the Smart Meters. Huffman's bill, AB 37, would require the CPUC to provide an opt-out alternative for customers who do not wish to have the meters installed and it would require utilities to provide a wired alternative to the wireless meter.

"I think it's going to represent a pretty significant improvement over the status quo," said Huffman. "There will be people who think it doesn't go far enough."

PG&E has said in recent weeks that it is considering the possibility of a wired alternative to the wireless meter, which works through a series of radio and cellular networks.

However, the CPUC has long maintained that the deployment of 10 million meters throughout California is part of a national smart grid that requires all consumers to be included and, therefore, has not allowed people the option of opting-out of the program. The CPUC also denied a petition to place a temporary moratorium on the deployment of the meters while these issues were examined.

Earlier this summer, Huffman also requested a study from theCalifornia Council on Science and Technology to look into the health issues surrounding the meters and the radio frequency and electro-magnetic frequencies standards established by the FCC. Though the meters meet current FCC standards, the question from the EMF Safety Network, which filed a petition with the CPUC, has been whether those standards are sufficient.

Huffman said, from what he has heard about the work being done by the California Council, that the new study "is not going to conclusively resolve this debate."

That study is expected to be released later this month in draft form, but Huffman said he believed the question of individual choice was a separate issue, which is why he felt compelled to bring forward this bill before the study was completed.

"The question is for individuals who believe their health is at risk to have a choice," said Huffman.

The bill next goes to the Assembly Utilities and Commerce Committee in early spring. From there, it could move out of committee for a vote.

Huffman said he has not only received positive input from colleagues, but also from the CPUC. He said the commission was receptive to working with the legislature on an appropriate opt-out option.

Currently, 7.5 million meters have been installed throughout California and are continuing to be installed. Installation began in Marin this year and, except for in Fairfax, has continued on schedule and is expected to be completed throughout the county by 2012. PG&E is voluntarily temporarily delaying installation in Fairfax.

The Fairfax Town Council additionally passed a one-year moratorium on the meters, which PG&E has suggested has no legal authority over the utility.

"The best I can do is move this bill forward as quickly as I can," said Huffman.

Currently, those who have concerns are encouraged to call PG&E and asked to placed on a delay list in order to delay the installation of their meters.

Dental cone-beam CT scan

HSI eAlert

Dear Reader,

As if the physical and emotional torture of getting braces weren't enough, it turns out it could pose a long-term danger for our kids as well. You see, with all those visits to be fitted and then to have their braces checked, they've probably been exposed to staggering levels of radiation.

And what's worse: All that exposure is completely unnecessary.

For this you can thank technological progress. And we've seen this familiar story many times before: Progress rushes in, fueled by huge profits, while safety oversight comes poking along, way too late.

But it's never too late to take action now and just say, "NO!"

Dangerous fun

The new technology is an imaging tool called a cone-beam CT scan. Dentists like it because it creates crisp 3-D images of the jaw and teeth, including roots. This is useful for complex problems like impacted teeth.

And kids actually like CT scan too because of what one orthodontist calls the "wow factor." On the computer display, kids can see their entire skull in vibrant colors.

As the orthodontist told the New York Times: "Fun for the kids."

Fun...but dangerous.

A Times investigation reveals that this ingenious scanning method emits a massive radiation dose--much more radiation than a conventional x-ray. And it's a huge risk for kids, because children--especially adolescents--are much more vulnerable to the effects of radiation than adults.

The enhanced detail of a CT scan image is helpful for orthodontists. But over the course of braces maintenance, patients usually get several scans.

And unfortunately, scientists believe the effects of these powerful scans are cumulative. So the long-term risk of cancer is doubled after the second scan, tripled after the third, etc.

Now...here's what's infuriating: Orthodontists and dentists can also produce 3-D images with a digital camera that emits no radiation. But using the digital camera takes about a half-hour longer than the CT scan. And those half-hours add up, preventing orthodontists from booking higher numbers of patients each day.

Fueled by misinformation

But there's one more detail about dental CT scans that actually goes WAY beyond infuriating. (My dentist would NOT be happy with me right now because I'm actually grinding my teeth as I write this.)

The selling of cone-beam CT technology has been outright dishonest.

In an online lecture earlier this year, a prominent 3-D technology expert who gives frequent professional presentations told attendees that the CT scan produces no more radiation than airport full-body scans.

But the director of the Center for Radiological Research at Columbia University Medical Center told the Times that such an estimate is "very wrong--by a lot." In fact, he says CT scanners can be SEVERAL HUNDRED TIMES more powerful than those controversial new airport scanners.

Unfortunately, this wildly misleading "estimate" is fairly popular.

An article in a recent issue of the Journal of the American Dental Association stated that radiation from a CT scan is equal to--yep--an airport full-body scan.

Funny thing though: That entire JADA issue was devoted to cone-beam technology. In fact, the issue was actually underwritten by one of the leading makers of CT scanners.

Arrrgh! The dental mainstream is just as bad as the medical mainstream!

Here's how the Times sums it up: "The cone beam's popularity has been fueled in part by misinformation about its safety and efficacy."

"Misinformation?" That's a tactful way of saying what it really is: lies.

Please warn your friends and family about this travesty--especially those who have kids who may soon be headed to their first orthodontist appointment.

But this warning is for everyone--not just kids. The next time your dentist needs to x-ray your teeth, ask him what technology he's using.

If he says, "cone-beam," tell him you don't mind taking the extra half-hour for the digital camera--or that you're willing to skip the special effects altogether.

To Your Good Health,
Jenny Thompson

Wireless Electrical and Electromagnetic Pollution News

Hi Andrew

Is this video any help in educating people about the dangers of EMR?

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/12/01/amazing-video-animation-of-the-inner-life-of-a-cell.aspx

Martin

Thanks Martin,

It's a great video and shows in graphic detail what really goes on inside cells. In a sense, it's quite scary with what looks like monster robots clambering around. However, most of what they do depends on electrostatic attractions between molecules and we upset these at our peril.

By the way, did you see my response to the PC World article on WiFi and tree damage. It is on my Facebook wall, but surprise surprise PC World did not post it. I will paste it in below. It may be useful since it is a brief summary of what I believe are the main mechanisms underlying tree damage by by mobile telecommunications.

Please feel free to use it as you see fit.

Best wishes

Andrew

P.S. I have just come back from walking the dogs in a local park with a large Vodafone tower in the corner. Many trees are dead or dying and others have not dropped their leaves this year; they are brown and dead but still firmly attached. This is a sign that their "body clocks" have been disrupted since leaf fall is normally an active response to short days. Since their immune systems are also controlled by their body clocks, the outlook is not good for them either.

Andrew Goldsworthy Many people make the mistake that the only way non-ionising radiation from Wi-Fi and mobile phones can damage living cells is due to its heating effect. If this were true, everything would be fine, but sadly it is not.
Most of the damage is done by a direct electrical effect on cell membranes, which can occur at signal... strengths that are thousands of times lower. The bulk of the damage is done, not by the microwaves themselves but by the sudden stops and starts of the signal when it is modulated to carry the digital information.
This jerks free some of the calcium ions that normally stabilise cell membranes so that they leak. Leaky membranes can give all sorts of unwanted biological effects, both on animals and plants. See http://tinyurl.com/34gvn29
Another effect is on the pigment cryptochrome, which occurs in both animals and plants as part of the biological clocks that control our natural body rhythms. Cryptochrome works by flipping an electron back and forth between two parts of the molecule causing the temporary generation of free radicals, which makes it extremely sensitive to magnetic fields and radio waves.
Some animals such as birds and insects have tweaked it to be sensitive to the direction of the earth's magnetic field for navigation, but for most of us, it's just part of our internal clocks. For example, living near a cell tower can disrupt our sleep patterns, making it harder to sleep at night and feel more tired during the day (Don't sleep next to a Wi-Fi router or DECT base station either).
Plants too have rhythms that control, amongst other things, their immune systems. If these rhythms were to be disrupted by radio waves, at no time could the immune system function it maximum efficiency and the plant would become more susceptible to disease.
Plants also use their biological clocks to measure the length of the day to control photoperiodic responses such the time of flowering and the dropping of leaves in the fall.
One thing you can look out for this winter is to see how many trees around WiFi antennas and cell towers have not dropped their leaves this year.

For your info a new campaign is being planned now by Arthur Firstenberg, who became an EHS during his medical studies and sued his neighbour for Wi-Fi, the lawsuit was published in the media. Arthur published a journal called "No place to hide" from 1997- 2002 about non ionizing radiation risks. The journal had a lot of original data that could not be found in any other source.
He also wrote a book on the subject. He is sending now letters to more than 2500 people who contacted him during the years (the mailing alone cost him $2000) in an effort to gather people from North America for a new campaign he calls "one of the most important environmental movements of our time...to help create a safer, saner future" with an organization the public can plug into, representing sufficient number of people to influence the policy in the U.S - something like a Sierra Club for EMFs.
He does not use a computer so he cannot send an email. Arthur created a board of ten members of different regions in the U.S with variety of expertise, they help with education and advocay for radiation-clean environment and support for disabled individuals.  They want to set up regional chapters throughout North America and create an umbrella group. Since many of the contacts are disabled with little/no income, they won't turn anyone away for lack of money, but they need substantial funds.
They offer for membership - info, access to other members in the same region (voluntary, they don't release personal info to anyone without permission info), referrals to experts, support. Two of the members created the website www.cellphonetaskforce.org they have a database searchable by region, with lists of doctors, lawyers and other professionals who are interested or receptive to the issue to varying degrees. He writes that he has an excellent lawyer and a secretary, they work only part time because of lack of budget.
The board wants to put out a newsletter and they look for a volunteer.
Donations will be tax-free
They ask for fee of $50.

Dead Tadpoles and Goldfish near mast / EMF & Health Workshops / Medical Evidence - Interview / Demise of White pages / Microwave News / Colwood residents protest new transmitters

Wireless Electrical and Electromagnetic Pollution News

13 November 2010

Dear Martin,

In 2002,  I investigated strange symptoms, which started near a phone mast in my village, when an Orange mast was activated 14 metres from homes.

In a pond in a garden behind a house, a large mass of frog spawn was destroyed around the edges, with apparently dead tadpoles in some places, patches of black and areas of spawn with a nucleus or developing tadpoles. All the goldfish died.

The owners of the house were suffering insomnia headaches nausea dizziness ear problems -and the husband lost his voice every time he went into the kitchen, where the mast could be seen - 14 metres from the house - antennas level with the front bedroom window.

Regards,

Gill

The above message was written in response to this information (below) which had been previously reported in WEEP News -

An experiment has been made exposing eggs and tadpoles of the common frog (Rana temporaria) to electromagnetic radiation from several mobile (cell) phone antennae located at a distance of 140 meters. The experiment lasted two months, from the egg phase until an advanced phase of tadpole prior to metamorphosis.

Measurements of electric field intensity (radiofrequencies and microwaves) in V/m obtained with three different devices were 1.8 to 3.5 V/m. In the exposed group (n = 70), low coordination of movements, an asynchronous growth, resulting in both big and small tadpoles, and a high mortality (90%) was observed. Regarding the control group (n = 70) under the same conditions but inside a Faraday cage, the coordination of movements was normal, the development was synchronous, and a mortality of 4.2% was obtained. These results indicate that radiation emitted by phone masts in a real situation may affect the development and may cause an increase in mortality of exposed tadpoles. This research may have huge implications for the natural world, which is now exposed to high microwave radiation levels from a multitude of phone masts.

Colwood residents protest new transmitters

http://www.bclocalnews.com/vancouver_island_south/goldstreamgazette/news/107540663.html

Residents on Triangle Mountain might never have known of a 3G cellular transmitter being added to an existing transmission tower, had they not spotted workers installing it.

The Rogers Wireless transmitter was the first new addition to towers on the Colwood-side of the mountain since the City revised its communications antenna policy in December 2008. Under the policy the company should have consulted with the City before work began.

But Mayor Dave Saunders was as surprised as anyone to learn of the new transmitter.

"The policy relies on companies to act in good faith and inform us of their development plans," he told about forty people who had assembled near the base of the tower in protest on Nov. 8.

Sunders clutched a first-full of e-mails he'd sent to Rogers and Industry Canada requesting information about future plans to develop the towers, but he said both parties had told him the information was confidential.

"They obviously have something to hide," he said as the crowd waved signs with messages such as "cell towers cause cancer" and "Rogers is a bad neighbour."

Organizer Sharon Noble of the group Citizens Against Un-Safe Emissions (CAUSE) said this would be the first of a series of rallies in the location. The group is calling for a moratorium on transmitters being installed on the towers, which are as near as 30 metres to some homes.

"Triangle mountain is the wrong place (for transmitters), it's densely populated with families and children," she said, pointing out that scientific studies have linked exposure to wireless technology with adverse health affects.

Nobel said the group isn't against cellular technology, but rather concerned with the strength of the signals and their proximity to homes.

In an written statement to the Gazette, Rogers spokesperson Sara Holland said the company sets the radio frequency (RF) levels on transmitters at a rate approved by Industry Canada.

"The credible scientific community and international bodies responsible for setting RF safety standards continue to believe that cell phone towers, or base stations, do not pose any health risks," she wrote.

She also said Industry Canada the company consult the public before working on an an existing tower. "We are not required to consult with the local authority or the public when performing modest changes such as we are doing," she wrote.

Saunders said Industry Canada a llowed the company to go around local policy. So he's trying a different approach to get the information, telling Industry Canada that the City requires cell company work plans for the purpose of worker safety.

"If something happens to somebody working on the tower and we need to send in our Colwood firefighters to help, we need to know the site is safe," the mayor explained.

Tammy Jeske was glad to see so many people working together on the issue. She's a member of Colwood's EMR task force and currently a resident on triangle mountain, though she's considering moving to be further from the transmitters.

"I don't want my family and children to be a guinea pig for industry," she said.

She's done what she can protect herself, covering the beds in her home with protective shielding material that blocks the radiation.

In addition to emissions from wireless technology, mountain residents also experience electronic interference from FM radio transmitters.

"We put up with so much," Jeske said. "It feels like protesting is the last option."

If Ultrasound Destroys Sperm, Why is it Safe for a Fetus?

Honey, Someone Shrunk the Microvilli!

Attached are photos of white blood cells. The first is before exposure to ELF (Extremely low frequency) EMR (electromagnetic radiation) and the second is after exposure to ELF EMR. These photos come from an Italian research paper published in 1997 entitled

"Effect of extremely low frequency (ELF) magnetic field exposure on morphological and biophysical properties of human lymphoid cell line (Raji)"

At any rate, we can see that the exposure to ELF (extremely low-frequency) radiation had the effect of shrinking/destroying what are known as microvilli. Now, these microvilli are found not only on immune cells, but also kidney cells, intestinal cells, sensory cells of the inner ear, the cells of taste buds, olfactory receptor cells, and on the plasma surface of human eggs (for the anchoring of sperm cells that have penetrated the cell surface).

Hence, we can speculate that the destruction of microvilli may very well, in the least

  1. impair immune function,

  2. impair kidney function,

  3. impair intestinal function, and

  4. impair fertility.

Furthermore, this destruction of microvilli by EMR may indeed be responsible for a host of modern ailments we are now seeing in the population:

  1. Immune System Dysfunction Syndromes (e.g. Autism, Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome, ADHD, etc.),
  2. Kidney Dysfunction Syndromes,
  3. Intestinal Dysfunction Syndromes (Crohn's Disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Colitis, etc.)
  4. Infertility.

Microvilli also contain enzymes, especially in the intestinal tract which break down nutrients for absorption, and are also covered with glycoproteins making up what are called glycocalyx. Glycocalyx are known to aid in the binding of substances needed for uptake and also as protection against harmful elements.

Since the Glycocalyx function (among other things) to

  1. Cushion the plasma membrane protecting it from physical and chemical injury,
  2. Enable the immune system to recognize and selectively attack foreign organisms,
  3. Defend against cancer by enabling the immune system to recognize changes in glycocalyx of cancerous cells and destroy them,
  4. Bind cells together so tissues don't fall apart,
  5. Enable sperm cells to recognize and bind to egg cells, and
  6. Guide embryonic cells to their destinations in the body, 1

their destruction would -- and is -- indeed having profound implications for all life on this planet. In one aspect (though there are many more) it does make one wonder about all these diseases where the cell has been infected with viruses, Lyme, mycoplasma and so on. One has to ask as to if the micovilli had been intact and functional....would the cell have been infected?

Hello People!

EMF Refugee

Everything must be taken into account. If the fact will not fit the theory -- let the theory go.... Real evidence is usually vague and unsatisfactory. It has to be examined -- sifted. But here the whole thing is cut and dried. No, my friend, this evidence has been very cleverly manufactured -- so cleverly that it has defeated its own ends.

If Ultrasound Destroys Sperm, Why is it Safe for a Fetus?

By Tonion May 24, 2010

Mike Adams
NaturalNews
May 23, 2010

Ultrasound is extremely damaging to the health of any unborn child (fetus). The natural health community has been warning about ultrasound for years, but mainstream medicine, which consistently fails to recognize the harm it causes, insists ultrasound is perfectly safe and can't possibly harm the health of a fetus.

Now, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is funding a project that aims to temporarily sterilize men by blasting their scrotums with ultrasound. The burst of ultrasound energy, it turns out, disrupts the normal biological function of the testes, making the man infertile for six months.

Ultrasound, in other words, contains enough energy to temporarily deaden the testes and basically destroy sperm function for half a year. So why is it considered "safe" to blast an unborn baby with the same frequencies?

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of electromagnetic field radiation generated by mobile phones on serum testosterone levels in Wistar albino rats.

METHODS: This experimental interventional control study was conducted in the Department of Physiology, College of Medicine, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia during the period December 2006 to April 2008. A total of 34 male Albino rats [Wistar strain], 2 months of age, weighing 150-160 gm were used for the experiment. These animals were divided into 3 groups. The first group containing 6 rats was assigned as a control group. The second group containing 14 rats was exposed to mobile phone radiation for 30 minutes daily and the third group containing 14 rats was exposed to mobile phone radiation for 60 minutes daily for the total period of 3 months. At the end of experimental period, blood was collected into the container, and serum testosterone was analyzed using double-antibody radioimmunoassay method by Coat-A-Count.

RESULTS: Exposure to mobile phone radiation for 60 minutes/day for the total period of 3 months significantly decrease the serum testosterone level [p=0.028] in Wistar Albino rats compared to their matched control.

CONCLUSION: Long-term exposure to mobile phone radiation leads to reduction in serum testosterone levels. Testosterone is a primary male gender hormone and any change in the normal levels may be devastating for reproductive and general health.

The work of Theodore Litovitz

Did you know that that the cell phone industry must have known for well over a decade exactly how to prevent most of the adverse health effects of cell phone radiation but did nothing about it?

It comes from the work of Theodore Litovitz, who discovered that by adding low-frequency electronic "white noise" over the top of the cell phone signal, most of the biological effects of the radiation that were known at the time could be reversed. We now know how this may work at the molecular level. If you read my "Witness Statement" at http://tinyurl.com/34gvn29 , you will see that most of the effects of the radiation can be attributed to the loss of calcium from cell membranes, which occurs only in very narrow "windows" of field strength, above and below which there is little or no effect. By adding a low-frequency "noise" signal with a random amplitude, very few cells stay within their windows for long enough to remove much calcium before they leave their respective windows, and the lost calcium floods back. Consequently, little or no permanent damage is done. Just reducing the power will not give the same effect. All this will do is to move the affected region closer to the surface, so that other cells are then put in their "windows" for long enough to do damage.

Litovitz wrote several convincing papers on this subject and patented his work, but it does not seem to have been taken up by the cell phone industry. I do not know why this should be. Perhaps they just wanted to maximise profits by not having to pay for a licence to use the patents. If so, this was a very bad decision. Were it not for this decision, we could probably all now be able to enjoy perfectly safe cell phones, WiFi and other forms of wireless communications, but sadly we are not. I also do not know what the legal position is relating to this. Litovitz is dead now, but he assigned his patents to the Catholic University of America and I would strongly urge the mobile phone industry to have another look at them.

I am pasting in the titles page and a brief summary of some scientific papers relevant to his work. I have also added some comments of my own in blue.

Best wishes

We concurrently exposed L929 mouse cell cultures to 60 Hz amplitude-modulated microwave fields or a 50 Hz burst-modulated DAMPS (Digital Advanced Mobile Phone System) digital cell phone field at levels known to produce ODC enhancement, together with a 30–100 Hz ELF noise field with root mean square amplitude of up to 10 mT. All exposures were carried out for 8 h, which was previously found to yield the peak microwave response. In both cases, the ODC enhancement was found to decrease exponentially as a function of the noise amplitude. With 60 Hz amplitude-modulated microwaves, complete inhibition was obtained with noise levels at or above 2 mT. With the DAMPS digital cell phone signal, complete inhibition occurred with noise levels at or above 5mT. These results suggest a possible practical means to inhibit biological effects from exposure to both ELF and microwave fields.

The Superposition of a Temporally Incoherent Magnetic Field Inhibits 60 Hz-induced Changes in the ODC Activity of Developing Chick Embryos

Vitreous State Laboratory, The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC

Previously, we have shown that a weak (4 mT) 60 Hz magnetic field (MF) can increase the ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) activity peaks, which occur during gastrulation and neurulation of chick embryos. We now report that superimposing a random noise field of the same strength reverses these changes, and may be related to its suppression of the neural tube defects that occur at later stages. [ N.B. The neural tube gives rise to the central nervous system, so the noise can be expected to reduce microwave damage to the developing nervous system].

Interaction of microwaves and a temporally incoherent magnetic field on spatial learning in the rat

Henry Lai*

Bioelectromagnetics Research Laboratory, Department of Bioengineering, University of Washington, Box 357962, Seattle, WA 98195-7962, USA

Received 17 December 2003; received in revised form 8 June 2004; accepted 8 June 2004

The effect of a temporally incoherent [noise] magnetic field on microwave-induced reduced learning ability in the rats was investigated. Four groups of rats were trained for six sessions to locate a submerged platform in a circular water maze, but immediately before each session, they were exposed to one of the following four treatments: -

1) Microwave-exposure (2450-MHz continuous-wave, average whole-body SAR 1.2 W/kg).

2) Random noise (60 mG).

3) Microwave+noise

4) Sham exposure.

One hour after the last session, they were tested in a 2-min trial in the maze during with the platform removed. The time spent in the quadrant where the platform had been was scored.

Results show that microwave-exposed rats were significantly less able to remember the right quadrant of the maze than the sham (unexposed) rats. Simultaneous exposure to the noise signal reversed the effect of the microwaves but the noise signal on its own had no effect.

Cell tower opponents will meet

http://www.theacorn.com/news/2010-08-26/Community/Cell_tower_opponents_will_meet.html

The SoCal chapter of REACT (Residents Engaged Against Cell Towers) will host a free talk at 8 p.m. Thurs., Sept. 2 at Temple Aliyah, 6025 Valley Circle Blvd., Woodland Hills.

International EMF health specialists Dr. Magda Havas, associate professor of environmental and resource studies at Trent University, and Libby Kelley, founder of the Electromagnetic Safety Alliance, will give a presentation on "Cell Antennas, Phones and Wi-Fi: What You Need to Know to Protect Your Family."

The public is invited to attend.

Havas has studied the biological effects of electromagnetic pollution, including radio frequency radiation, electromagnetic fields, dirty electricity and ground current. She will explain why citizens should be concerned about potential health risks related to electromagnetic radiation, especially among children and teens, pregnant women and people with immune problems.

Kelley will present information on public advocacy needs and policy developments as well as the implications of new cellphone "right-to-know" legislation in San Francisco.

REACT is a coalition of Southern California residents who object to cell antenna installations near homes and schools and who have a history of stopping such installations within their communities.

Traffic Jam on the Information Superhighway

by: Frank Holmes August 22, 2010

http://seekingalpha.com/article/221694-traffic-jam-on-the-information-superhighway?source=email

There's growing congestion on one of America's highways and reports say the problem will only get worse. In just the past few years, America's technological network—our information superhighway—has gone from hare to tortoise. Dropped calls, Internet outages and surfing at a snail's pace now seem to be commonplace.

One of the main causes of the congestion is the exponential growth of smartphones. Did you know that the new 4G iPhone uses the equivalent network capacity of 200 older generation cell phones

Earlier this year when Apple sold 1.7 million of them in just three days, it was the data equivalent of dumping 340 million new cell phones into the system at once—no wonder there were problems. It isn't Apple's (or AT&T's) fault so many people wanted their product, but it does highlight the investment opportunity.

According to tech research firm PacificCrest, the global technology build out is a $200+ billion opportunity over the next five years. The infrastructure needs include $100 billion to relieve congestion and $50 billion for boosting networks by upgrading Internet protocols. PacificCrest also estimates $54 billion is needed for new routing systems to improve data flow.

PacificCrest says we're entering the next phase of the Internet infrastructure build cycle as big firms boost their capital spending to alleviate bottlenecks and accommodate technological improvements.

During the last cycle (2004-2008) the top five Internet firms spent roughly $15 billion on infrastructure, but that figure is expected to jump to $28 billion over the next four years (click to enlarge).

The infrastructure upgrades and additional networks are important because much of the world still isn't connected. There are 183 billion emails sent each day, but 78 percent of the world's population still doesn't have email. There are roughly 6 billion devices (4.6 billion mobile phones, 1.2 billion computers) hooked up to the Internet today, but less than 10 percent of those have high-speed access.

As more people—especially in the developing world—join the broadband and mobile communities, immense strains will be placed on the global network over the next few years. There should be substantial opportunities to participate in this build out along the way.

There are legitimate concerns over cellphones

Published: August 26, 2010 3:00 PM

http://www.bclocalnews.com/opinion/letters/101602523.html

Editor: It's an uncomfortable truth that cellphones, wireless laptops, compact fluorescent light bulbs and many of the other modern electrical conveniences that we use every day may be dangerous to our health and the welfare of other living things.

It can take years for science to assemble enough clear evidence to prompt governments to set safer standards. Think of pesticides and smoking.

And the Canadian government continues to peddle unsafe asbestos and nuclear power to markets abroad that have lower safety regulations than we do because these industries are "good" for our economy.

Health Canada's safe limits for the radiation from wireless technology are well below what groups like Citizens for Safe Technology say are necessary, but the government is at least saying officially that it is monitoring the evidence coming in about the health consequences of our increasing use of wireless devices.

To cavalierly declare that "glaring falsehoods and incomplete information" (letter, The Times, Aug. 18) are behind the concern about cellphones and cellphone towers is really like trying to hide your head in the sand.

Honourable Kevin Falcon

Efforts are being made to install WiFi in schools throughout British Columbia in the name of progress. School boards need to be made aware that this is a technology which has never been tested, and, therefore, has never been proven to be safe. It uses the same type of radiation that has been shown in thousands of independent peer-reviewed studies to be hazardous, especially to children.

When asked to investigate whether WiFi is dangerous, school boards and the IT specialists quite naturally look to Health Canada for guidance. Unfortunately Health Canada has established a guideline which is  inadequate because it is based on another type of radiation. The levels of exposure allowed by Health Canada are among the highest (worst) in the world. Several scientists met the Parliamentary Sub-Committee in charge of Health Canada (HESA) in Ottawa in April to present evidence to confirm this statement. Please see the attached transcripts of that meeting. Therefore, when school boards receive assurance that the radiation levels associated with WiFi will be below the levels in Safety Code 6 (the guideline), they are being mislead into believing this means WiFi is safe. Harm has been shown to occur at levels drastically below those allowed by Safety Code 6.

Barrie Trower, a physicist and former British Secret Service member who specialized in microwave weapons for the UK government, was interviewed this week in Toronto about the dangers of wireless technology, especially WiFi in schools. Following is a link to that 6 minute interview. Mr. Trower refers to a previously classified government document which instructs that the information obtained through experiments be hidden from the public.

http://www.cbc.ca/video/news/audioplayer.html?clipid=1573543914

Please know that despite statements to the contrary by the wireless companies, WiFi provides no advantage other than convenience. In addition to being safer from a health viewpoint, wired connection to the internet  is faster, carries more data, and is more difficult to be hacked into. Is this worth jeopardizing the health of our greatest asset -- our children, or their teachers? I think not.

I implore you and your office to take charge of the issue. WiFi is not in Federal jurisdiction so it becomes a Provincial responsibility. It is imperative that the harm associated with prolonged exposure of children to WiFi be examined carefully before it is installed in school rooms. Scientific evidence shows that children are especially vulnerable to the radiation. It is your departments' and the schools' responsibility (in loco parentis) to ensure their safety.

I look forward to receiving a response. Should you require more information, or have any questions regarding anything I've said, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Sharon Noble

Victoria, BC

CBC is running a poll on WIFI and whether it is safe for children. Since there is not a single safety study on children, this is the achilles heel of the industry. Make sure everyone knows it. Patti
