Wireless Electrical and Electromagnetic Pollution News

POWERLESS!

As a sufferer of electro hypersensitivity, any increase in unseen traffic through the airwaves makes her skin burn.

Putting it simply, Margaret says she's allergic to electricity.

But mobile phone waves and broadband wireless networks all combine to make Margaret’s life a misery, so much so that she's had to move house 34 times in the last 16 years; can't live in the marital home with her husband of 42 years, Richard; and is in constant pain.

A nurse by profession, Margaret's troubles only started when she was 54. She can practically pinpoint the date.

'Electricity leaked at a supply pole going into my home. I could hear it,' she said, adding that she started to experience a burning sensation in her skin, pains in her head and ear, facial pains and dried out eyes. She even had to have the black fillings taken out of her teeth because they attracted electricity and made her jaws rattle.

'A year after that electricity leaked, I started getting the pains,' she said, adding that to this day she cannot wear jewellery, and has to summon every bit of strength in her being to do simple tasks like grocery shopping.

'On December 23, 1995, I left home. I had to go, the pain was so bad,' she said, adding that she rented a mobile home. Later, her son Ultan built her a timber, Scandanavian-style residence between Tenacre and Bridgetown, which suited her needs perfectly at the time, but the electricity-free life only lasted a while.

'I took up residence there in June 1997, and it was grand for about ten months,' she said, but then mobile phone antennae started sprouting up across the countryside.

'Every time power increases, or broadband is set up, I can feel it,' she said.

'I have moved 34 times in the last 16 years,' she said, adding that for a short time she found solace in rented accommodation in Curracloe.

Currently Margaret is staying at her sister's, but expects that she will have to move on again soon.

' This has destroyed my life, my career,' she said, adding that she has turned to kinieslogists and other alternative healers for help - but still finds the pain intolerable at times.

She's been in touch with Green Party TDs Mary White and John Gormley, and has met with the Minister for the Environment. ' The only solution for me is to get these rays out of my home.

I can't see that happening.'

Distributed Antenna System (DAS)

Please take action and tell your town, state, and federal officials that you do not want microwave radiation emitting devices outside your child's bedroom window, their school, or your local shopping center.  Go to your local town council meeting, inform your neighbors, get involved and forward this to everyone you know. Enough is enough!

You may not have noticed but there are cell antennas going up in residential neighborhoods all over Rhode Island, maybe even on your street. They hang discretely from ordinary utility wires and unless you're looking for them you'd probably never notice them.  Because I have Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, which includes severe sensitivity to electromagnetic radiation, I recently purchased a radiation detector. I'd checked all the areas I normally travel to in town in order to avoid things like cell towers and Wi-Fi.  But recently I'd been feeling worse than usual despite the precautions I take and I wanted to know why.  I turned my meter on to recheck the area, and was shocked to find a microwave transmitting device had been installed right on the corner of my street.  Then I began finding them all over town.

The units going up all over my neighborhood are a new type of cell antenna and box called a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) that emits radiation for 800 feet in all directions. They are basically cylindrical-shaped black boxes--repeaters that push wireless signals through the areas between cell towers.

There appears to be a mad rush by industry to get these antennas installed as quickly as possible, and I suspect this is because the general public is starting to get savvy about the dangers. There is good reason to be concerned when high-powered microwave transmitters are literally placed outside people's bedroom windows and near our public schools and shopping centers.

This is a particularly dangerous and life-threatening situation for people like me, and those with chronic health issues, pregnant women, children, and the elderly are also at greater risk. At this point I cannot safely take a walk on my street, go to the bank, visit my doctor, go to the grocery store, or pick up my child from school without being exposed to dangerous levels of radiation. I have been experiencing headaches, dizziness, disorientation, nausea, insomnia, muscle aches, weakness, and burning eyes, throat, and skin every time I am exposed to these DAS units.

Most people living and working in close proximity to these antennas have no idea these devices have been installed, what they are, or that they're being exposed to dangerous levels of microwave radiation right in their own homes or while on the job. Many are already sick, but don't realize the source of their illness. The danger of radiation is that you cannot see it, hear it, or smell it. People with MCS/ES can literally feel the effects of radiation on their skin, but most people cannot. This puts the general public at an extreme disadvantage with regard to recognizing the hazards because many of the symptoms they do experience are also common to the flu.

Doctors in the U.S. are not typically trained to recognize the signs of radiation poisoning (in other countries they are). With chronic exposure these symptoms might eventually be misdiagnosed as Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, or Lyme Disease. Cognitive and neurological symptoms can lead to anxiety, ADHD, and insomnia.

If not removed from the source of radiation or with repeated exposures, one can develop autoimmune or neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, or leukemia.

So look out your bedroom window. Scan the parking lot where you shop, the streets where you're typically stuck in traffic, and your child's busstop and play areas. Do you see something hanging from the utility wire or a pole in the parking lot that you never noticed before?   Most people assume that federal authorities are protecting us from any potential danger with regard to radiation-emitting devices, but this simply isn't true.  Scientists around the world are warning that existing radiation standards are completely inadequate to protect public health because they are not biologically-based. So in effect, the telecom industry is completely unregulated and that is putting your health and your children's health at risk.

When the federal government isn't minding the store, it's up to citizens, town administrators, state agencies, and elected officials to educate themselves and take action.  You can read more about this issue and how Long Island residents are demanding protection from these devices by visiting

http://www.dontcellout.com/ .

Here you will find a picture of a typical DAS unit, and other models can be found by doing an on-line search. This is a public health crisis of exponential proportions that is playing out in communities all across this country. It is coming to your town soon if it hasn't already.  The public needs to take action because it is only a matter of time before a DAS unit is hanging outside of YOUR home. Please call or write your elected officials before it is too late.

Sincerely,
Mary Adkins, M.Ed.

DECT Cordless Phones (and WiFi) Causes Heart Irregularities

DECT Cordless phones which transmit a pulsed signal have been shown to impact heart rate in new research published in the European Journal of Oncology. "What we found is what many people have said for a long time about devices that emit microwaves," stated Dr. Havas. "People don't just feel ill, their heart begins to race and this is measurable with medical heart monitoring devices."

Examining the health costs of high-tech gadgets

Research by Dr. Avendano shows link between infertility and Wi-Fi use
By Caterina Rotunno

Technology can make our day-to-day lives easier but at times we risk losing control due to a lack of awareness of the potential consequences to our health.

Recent trials by the medical team at Nascentis Reproductive Medicine Center in Cordoba, Argentina, analyzed the effects of electromagnetic radiation from portable computers connected to Wi-Fi on sperm and reproductive ability.

When using our laptops, often placing them on our laps, we soon feel the heat they emit. Other studies have shown evidence of possible side effects by cell phone electromagnetic radiation on sperm quality, and as far as laptops, potential danger was attributed to the heat given off during their use.

Argentine doctors wanted to delve deeper into the issue, and their research has shown that exposure from being in proximity to laptops connected to Wi-Fi causes a reduction in sperm motility associated with DNA damage to these cells, with a reduced reproductive capacity in males.

The experimentation was carried out in Dr. Conrado Avendano's lab – he's the biochemist specializing in andrology who coordinated a team of doctors composed of Ariela Mata (embryology lab director), Andres Juarez Villanueva (endoscopy department director), and Cesar Sanchez Sarmiento (medical director).

In an interview granted to our paper, Dr. Avendano affirms that "sperm vitality and motility was examined during experimentation. The spermatozoa were exposed to electromagnetic radiation for about three of four hours – they didn't die but there was a notable reduction in their motility, which is indispensable for fertilizing the female ovum."

"Meanwhile," continues Dr. Avendano, "there was a significant increase in sperm that showed evidence of damage in their DNA molecules. Sperm DNA fragmentation has been shown to decrease the chance of natural conception."

What could the damaging consequences be to sperm cells' DNA fragments which you observed in-vitro during the process of fertilization, and in particular, during embryo and fetus development?

"Sperm DNA damage has been linked to poor rates of conception, impaired embryonic development, an increased incidence of miscarriage, and the appearance of various kinds of morbidity in the offspring, including childhood cancer.

Studies on animal models have been revealed that sperm with damaged DNA can successfully fertilize the oocyte but it may reduce the rate of pre-implantation, embryo development, and number of offspring."

Your research highlighted the risks to men. Is it also possible that there are risks to a woman's reproductive system as a result of improper and prolonged use of electronic equipment connected to a Wi-Fi system?

"We speculate that the electronic magnetic fields (EMF) generated by Wi-Fi may decrease sperm quality in vivo. It is well known that EMF can penetrate the tissues, so it would be possible that this radiation also impacts female gametes. However, we have not studied that sowe cannot be sure – it would be necessary to do studies to confirm it."

Based on your medical experience and current trials, can you make recommendations to our readers — particularly to youth — on the correct use of laptops connected to Wi-Fi networks and electronic equipment in general?

"We recommend not placing laptops on the lap while in use, especially if these are connected to Wi-Fi. At least until science can study the real impact of this radiation on reproductive health."
Your research will be presented next October at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) in Denver, Colorado. What are your expectations?

"Nascentis is a new reproductive medicine centre and this is our first international presentation. Although these are preliminary results, we believe that it may have good acceptance in the reproductive medical community and allow us to expand our knowledge on sperm quality."

Parents wants WiFi out of schools

By ELIZABETH BOWER EXAMINER STAFF WRITER

http://www.peterboroughexaminer.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=2809790

WiFi technology, used to connect computers to the Internet without wires, must be immediately banned from Peterborough's schools because it emits radiation that can cause headaches, dizziness, mood dis-o rd e r s and a racing heart -- especially in children, a parent said during a meeting Wednesday night.

Malini Menon told a group of 60 people at the Evinrude Centre that the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board should stop its plan to phase in the technology in schools unless there's scientific evidence that it's safe.

"The board only knows there's no evidence to suggest WiFi is unsafe --well, sorry, that's not good enough," Menon told the crowd at the public meeting organized by the local chapter of Citizens for Safe Technology.

Peterborough medical officer of health Dr. Rosana Pellizzari, who wasn't at the meeting, has said there is no consistent evidence that exposure to radio frequency signals from wireless networks has an adverse impact on the general population.

However, a common comment from audience members and speakers was that there are concerns about WiFi across the world -- so if there's even a possibility of it being harmful, why use it when schools could instead use alternate safe technology such as fibreoptics.

Otherwise, Menon said, it's tan-t a m o u nt to using children as "guinea pigs."

WiFi in schools is industrial strength compared to WiFi used in homes, said Trent University associate professor Magda Havas, who conducts electromagnetic radiation research.

The base stations, a circular object generally affixed to a ceiling to emit the signal to computers, is radiating constantly in schools so a child would be exposed to the radiation whether he or she is using the technology or not, Havas said.

Havas said parents from across North America have contacted her about their children getting heart

palpitations and headaches after WiFi was installed in their schools.

She said teachers have contacted her about getting sick but they fear to speak out because of potential ridicule.

People have accused Havas of being a fear mongerer, she said.

"But I think fear is anti-productive.... I want to empower you with information to make an intelligent decision," she told the crowd.

The public board was excited to approve its technology plan, including phased-in WiFi in the schools, but didn't consider health concerns at the time, trustee Brian Cowie told the crowd.

"I think there needs to be more talk about it," Cowie said, after listening to the presentation.

Public board trustee Shirley Patterson told the crowd the board shouldn't risk children's health if there's a chance WiFi is harmful.

It'd be considered unethical if a researcher wanted to microwave children for 1,200 hours per year for 14 years so it's ridiculous that WiFi is allowed in schools where children will be exposed to the radiation for that same length of time, said Citizens for Safe Technology member Sheena Symington.

It's a "no brainer" that WiFi should be banned in schools, said public board trustee candidate Jean Grant.

"I fought the school board before and I will fight the school board again," she said to applause, referring to the fact she won her fight against the public board when the board expelled her son after hearing stories of the sale and consumption of marijuana at a party that wasn't during school time or on school property. "I'm willing to do whatever I can."

Fight against WiFi

Suggestions on how to make WiFi safer in schools, according to Trent University associate professor Magda Havas, who researches electromagnetic radiation:

* Turn WiFi off when not in use.

* Disconnect it in rooms that don't use computers such as kindergarten.

* Let pupils and students choose if they want to use Wifior cable.

* Have WiFi-free zones.

* Document health concerns from staff and students who say WiFi is making them sick.

Parents wants WiFi out of schools

By ELIZABETH BOWER EXAMINER STAFF WRITER

* Have WiFi-free zones.

* Document health concerns from staff and students who say WiFi is making them sick.

W.E.E.P. – The Canadian initiative to stop Wireless Electrical and Electromagnetic Pollution

Address to Stratford City Council Committee about the danger of Smart Meters / Swiss Schools WiFi / Toxic Triggers

W.E.E.P. News

Wireless Electrical and Electromagnetic Pollution News

21 October 2010

Press Release

By Martin Weatherall

Candidate for Mayor of Stratford, Ontario.

This is the information that I presented at the City of Stratford Finance and Labour Relations Sub-Committee Tuesday 19 October 2010. Councillor Clifford was Chair, Councillor Mark, Councillor Culliton, Councillor Brown, CAO Shaw, Linda Edwards and Mayor Dan Mathieson were present.

The Committee chair had already read and past a resolution on smart meters without allowing me to speak. The resolution stated that Stratford smart meters were safe because they were within Health Canada safety standards. After having to interrupt the meeting to be heard, I was granted five minutes to make a presentation.

Here are some of the health problems that Stratford residents have experienced, since Smart Meters were installed:

1. Several people have advised me that they have been experiencing sleeping problems since the meters were installed.

2. One person is having to sleep in the basement to avoid radiation exposure from the smart meter and to be able to sleep properly.

3. A person has had to move out of an apartment building, because 29 smart meters were installed in the electrical room next to her apartment and strong radiation was coming through the master bedroom wall and into other areas of the apartment, causing sleep disruption

4. One person with several meters outside his town-home, advised me that he now suffers from frequent headaches since the meters were installed, previously he did not suffer from them.

5. One house owner is unable to use a bedroom and has had to shield other areas of the house because of the very high strength and almost continuous microwave radiation that is being emitted by the smart meter, which is passing through the brick wall and into the bedroom.

6. A person (with six smart meters on the wall of her kitchen) has started to suffer seizures much more often, since smart meters were installed on the wall outside her kitchen.

I then read from this letter, provided to me by another victim, just prior to the meeting:

Re Smart Meters. October 18th 2010.

Some time ago, I started experiencing sleep disorders, nightmares, vertigo and headaches. Around the same time, my dog's behaviour changed drastically. She too was getting up every hour throughout the night. I would find her huddled in her bed whining and howling, looking terrified and staring at me wide-eyed, like she did not know who I was. I thought that she had a stroke.

After two weeks I was experiencing unexplained fits of rage (only at home) and forgetting things, and the dog's behaviour had escalated to the point she was headed to the vet, never to return home.

In the meantime, I started to hear rumblings around town about the new smart meters. I realized that a panel of these meters had been installed on the outside wall of my building, right around the time all these problems began. This was the same wall that the head of my bed and the dog's bed was against.

I decided to try an experiment. I re-arranged my bedroom furniture so that the beds were against a wall farthest from the smart meters. The meter wall was blocked by armoires and bookcases. Within forty eight hours the headaches and nightmares stopped. The dog's behaviour began to return to normal and we were both sleeping better. By the end of the week, the vertigo subsided, the temper flare ups stopped and the dog was herself again.

Signed

The committee members showed little or no concern for these victims of smart meter radiation.

LVX to replace WIFI ?

Visible Light Communication Embedded within the visible light generated by LED (Light Emitting Diode) lamps are modulating light signals that communicate with other lamps and equipment that possess the same technology at ultra-high speeds. These devices when placed throughout a building or geographic area form a comprehensive wireless communication network capable of providing many services including energy savings, communications and security functions.

Most wireless communications today are produced from radio waves generated from electronic equipment. "WI-FI", "3G Networks" and "Bluetooth" are examples of this applied technology. They each have limitations in data transmission speeds.

B.C. groups join push to turn off Wi-Fi at schools

The call to get wireless internet technology out of schools is getting louder, as fears grow about the potential dangers the technology poses to children.

A growing number of organizations are pointing to cases and research claiming radiation emitted by Wi-Fi technology can cause a range of health problems, including headaches, an inability to concentrate and heart palpitations.

Sharon Noble, chair of Citizens Against UnSafe Emissions (CAUSE) based in Victoria B.C., says the small convenience Wi-Fi offers is not worth the risk.

"We want wired internet. It's safe. Parents think [Wi-Fi] is cutting edge technology and it's not."

As Noble and other organizations try to get the message out to parents and officials, a public school in Meaford, Ontario has become the first in Canada to shut down wireless internet.

Parent of students at St. Vincent Euphrasia elementary school voted "overwhelmingly" to cut off Wi-Fi, according to a statement released by the school's parent council on Monday.

Their decision comes after a group of Ontario parents dubbed the Simcoe County Safe School Committee spoke out against Wi-Fi in schools this summer.

Parents at Lucerne School in New Denver, B.C., are joining the fight, and are choosing to keep hardwired computer systems.

"We encourage other parents to look into the increasingly evident side effects of wireless routers and computers, particularly to children whose bodies and brains are still developing," said the New Denver Parent Children's Association in a statement.

The group and other affiliated organizations are urging people to bring the message to Parliament by signing a petition.

Opponents point to research on electromagnetic radiation by Dr. Magda Havas of Trent University, who is asking health officers in each province to issue a warning about the use of Wi-Fi in a school environment.

While Health Canada says there is no "scientific evidence" that Wi-Fi in the classroom is dangerous to children, Havas says the federal guidelines need to be questioned because "the evidence so strongly indicates this form of radiation is harmful."

Noble says Health Canada "isn't doing its job", and wonders why there is such a push to go wireless with all the questions out there about health risks.

"Why does a kindergarten child need a laptop?" she asks.

Currently, the main sources of public exposure to electromagnetic fields are mobile phones, which currently outnumber the number of citizens of the European Union. 67% of Europeans consider that the signals emitted by the antennas of mobile telephony and to some extent affect their health and 58% of the population believes that the authorities do not adequately protect the public from the risks associated with exposure According to the report Electromagnetic Fields, published in June this year by Eurobarometer and the European Commission has made reference to Dr. Alejandro Úbeda, Bioelectromagnetics Section Chief of Hospital Ramón y Cajal de Madrid, during his speech in New Risks public health, which has taken place in the framework of the Sixth National Conference on Health Journalism.

Úbeda emphasized the lack of training and correct and complete information to determine the true impact of mobile phone use in the development of brain tumors. "Although several meta-analysis have provided some evidence that using mobile phones for over ten years could double the risk of being diagnosed with certain brain tumors, the inherent limitations of epidemiological methodology can not yet know for sure if the repeated and prolonged use Mobile is a risk factor. Wireless Electrical and Electromagnetic Pollution News

19 October 2010

This is the documentary on WiFi in schools that was on Global TV 16 by 9, The Bigger Picture on Sunday October 17, 2010.  It is just under 15 minutes and is excellent!  Parents and teachers we need to do something about this since children are exposed to microwave radiation without anyone protecting them, not the government, not the school board and certainly not the IT Departments!

Teachers need to speak out especially if they are sensitive and reacting to this radiation.  Parents and grandparents also need to speak out if their children are reacting adversely with headaches, dizziness, heart irregularities, etc.

The good news is that we can still access internet in schools by using wires rather than wireless technology without being exposed to microwave radiation.

A Meaford, Ont. public school is the first in the nation to shut down wireless Internet in classrooms amidst a growing debate over the effects of wireless emissions on children.

Parents of students at St. Vincent Euphrasia elementary school voted "overwhelmingly" to cut off the Wi-Fi, according to a statement released by the school's parent council Monday.

"Parents voted to protect their children's health and plug the computers back in with hardwires," council member Andrew Couper said in the statement.

Wi-Fi "is something every school council across Canada should be questioning," Couper said.

St. Vincent Euphrasia is one of a handful of schools to look into a Wi-Fi ban in recent months over fears it's making students sick.

A group of Ontario parents dubbed the Simcoe County Safe School Committee believes Wi-Fi transmitters in schools may be responsible for a host of symptoms their kids show -- from headaches to an inability to concentrate -- all of which disappear on weekends.

They first spoke out against school Wi-Fi this summer, prompting government officials to weigh the effects of wireless technology on children.

Ontario Education Minister Leona Dombrowsky said in August the matter is in Ottawa's hands.

Meanwhile, Dr. Arlene King, Ontario's chief medical officer of health, said that Wi-Fi poses no threat to children in schools.

King said it's understandable that people are confused by the debate over the safety of Wi-Fi transmitters in schools, given the sometimes conflicting evidence.

However, King said people need to look at the weight of the literature on the topic, especially from authorities like the World Health Organization, which says exposure to Wi-Fi is safe.

Health Canada says there is "no convincing scientific evidence" that Wi-Fi in schools is dangerous to children.

German "Heatball" whiz outwits EU light bulb ban

October 15, 2010

BERLIN (Reuters) – A German entrepreneur is bypassing a European Union ban on light bulbs of more than 60 watts by marketing his own brand as mini heaters.

Siegfried Rotthaeuser and his brother-in-law have come up with a legal way of importing and distributing 75 and 100 watt light bulbs -- by producing them in China, importing them as "small heating devices" and selling them as "heatballs."

To improve energy efficiency, the EU has banned the sale of bulbs of over 60 watts -- to the annoyance of the mechanical engineer from the western city of Essen.

Rotthaeuser studied EU legislation and realized that because the inefficient old bulbs produce more warmth than light -- he calculated heat makes up 95 percent of their output, and light just 5 percent -- they could be sold legally as heaters.

On their website (http://heatball.de/), the two engineers describe the heatballs as "action art" and as "resistance against legislation which is implemented without recourse to democratic and parliamentary processes."

Costing 1.69 euros each ($2.38), the heatballs are going down well -- the first batch of 4,000 sold out in three days.

Rotthaeuser has pledged to donate 30 cents of every heatball sold to saving the rainforest, which the 49-year-old sees as a better way of protecting the environment than investing in energy-saving lamps, which contain toxic mercury.

Woman Claims Navy Frequency Is Cause Of Heart Issues

Susanne Reedy Says Frequency Gives Her Pacemaker Problems

October 14, 2010

http://www.10news.com/news/25396744/detail.html

SAN DIEGO -- A San Diego woman claims the U.S. Navy is putting her life at risk by not properly examining an issue that could cause her heart to stop.

At first, Susanne Reedy believed her pacemaker was acting up. Now, every time she tries to open her car door, she said her heart can literally skip a beat.

"That's frightening because my life depends on this," said Reedy.

Born with a congenital heart defect, Reedy has had a pacemaker for 15 years with few problems.

However, six months ago, she began suffering episodes of irregular heartbeat during some trips to the Hillcrest area, where she works as a hospital technician.

"I would get winded. It felt like my heart was pounding sideways," Reedy told 10News.

Last week, she got winded and her heart started to flutter. She went to her car and could not unlock it with the remote.

Reedy said each time she experienced the symptoms, her car remote was not working. A review of her doctor's appointments showed during her last two visits, other remotes in San Diego were not working properly.

In April and late July of this year, 10News reported on widespread remote failures from Point Loma to La Jolla. The manufacturers blamed it on Navy ships, but the Navy did not take responsibility. But Navy officials said many military bases often use the same frequency range as some consumer devices.

"Furious. That makes me angry. I just want the Navy to stop doing this; that's it," said Reedy.

The pacemaker company confirmed they have received several complaints, and they said they could not rule out widespread interference hampering pacemakers.

The problems could leave Reedy vulnerable to a stroke or worse.

"It gives us a big 'what if,'" said Reedy.

In a statement, Navy officials said: "We empathize with neighbors … We don't know what's causing any local interference. The Navy continues to operate within the mandated … radio communications band."
