Sleep problems may be linked to brain shrinkage: study
Sleep loss may lead to a faster rate of decline in the brain, a new study suggests. It's an important finding because lower brain volumes are linked to an increased risk of memory problems and dementia.
Other studies have concluded sleep problems result in poorer performance on cognitive tests. But the new research --published in the journal Neurology Wednesday -- found the brain actually changes over the years.
Comment - This is yet another examble of wireless radiation 'dumbing down' the population. It is well known that exposure to strong sources of microwave radiation is causing significant sleeping problems. This research shows that the lack of sleep is causing adverse changes to the brain.

Electronics' noise disorients migratory birds
When European robins, Erithacus rubecula, were exposed to the background electromagnetic noise present in unscreened wooden huts at the University of Oldenburg campus, they could not orient using their magnetic compass. Their magnetic orientation capabilities reappeared in electrically grounded, aluminium-screened huts, which attenuated electromagnetic noise in the frequency range from 50 kHz to 5 MHz by approximately two orders of magnitude. When the grounding was removed or when broadband electromagnetic noise was deliberately generated inside the screened and grounded huts, the birds again lost their magnetic orientation capabilities

Media Refuse to Publish Mayor's Critique of Smart Meters
April 23, 2014
The following guest editorial about smart meters was written by John Ranns, the longtime Mayor of the District of Metchosin on southern Vancouver Island in British Columbia. Mayor Ranns wrote this guest editorial in November 2013 and submitted it for publication to the Victoria Times-Colonist and subsequently to other major newspapers in British Columbia. When his secretary followed up with the Victoria Times-Colonist about the status of his submission, the newspaper said it would not be publishing the piece because the piece was not topical. Mayor Ranns received no other replies from major media, and ultimately no major media outlets published his piece. Read for yourself the opinion that British Columbia's news outlets saw unfit to print.
Guest Editorial on Smart Meters
by John Ranns, November 2013
What I find most disturbing about BC Hydro's forced imposition of smart meters is how readily politicians of all parties have abandoned fundamental principles of a free society in order to accommodate bureaucratic expediency. Individual freedom demands that government has boundaries. As far back as the 1600s the concept that individuals need sanctuary from government was established in British Common Law (still applicable in British Columbia), clearly stating that your home is your castle and the sovereign will not cross your threshold without following due process. Except now they have. In one stroke, the Province is saying that lawful citizens no longer have a choice in what enters or leaves their homes.
Although debate has been carefully steered to encompass technical arguments and ignore principle, there are two facts about smart meters that cannot be denied: They emit radiation into your house. And, when Hydro chooses, they will gather and disseminate personal information, which previously would have required a court order.
Whether the radiation is harmful or ultimately proves to be safe is not the point. What is critical to the issue is that many people believe it to be harmful, and now their sanctuary, along with their peace of mind, is denied them. Nor does it matter how little you may care what government, corporations, and hackers know about what you do in your home. What matters is that the safeguards protecting others who do care must remain in place.
And forget the argument that people are free to go somewhere else. In our current economy most people in this province who have a job and a mortgage have no choice but to stay where they are and do what BC Hydro dictates. For populated areas, supplied electricity has become more essential to life than supplied water. Urban regulations will not permit alternative sources. And those who could legally go off-the grid can rarely afford the expense. BC Hydro is a government-established monopoly, so there are no competitors to turn to for service provision. Under these circumstances the only protection an individual has are our elected representatives. Except in this case, regardless of party, they have determined that what is good for business is more important than long established individual rights.
Recently, politicians of all description prominently displayed poppies and paid homage to the sacrifices made by previous generations who understood that to maintain a free system over time it is necessary for certain principles to be inviolate. Government must conform to the principle rather than change the principle to accommodate the wishes of whoever happens to be in power. It is why we have Constitutions. Unfortunately many politicians these days don't seem to think that way. They do not recognize that our jobs are not only to represent our electorate, majority and minority, but also to serve as guardians of the free system. Sadly we seem all too willing to thoughtlessly forfeit our freedom for the latest of fleeting conveniences that our runaway technology may provide.

Avoid Penticton BC
Free Wi-Fi will soon be offered in Penticton's downtown core as part of the downtown revitalization.
The City 'idiots' decide to subject their downtown, parks and beachfront to a class 2b carcinogen (microwave radiation from powerful Wi Fi routers) and then think its a good thing?

An Electronic Silent Spring
I have just been reading a complimentary copy of Katie Singer's new book entitled "An Electronic Silent Spring" and it is superb. It aims to repeat Rachel Carson's "Silent Spring", which was about pollution with pesticides, with a similar book on electromagnetic pollution.
It is written for the lay-person and but includes contributions from well known scientists in the field, evidence from people who are suffering from electromagnetic pollution and tricks that the "Industry" has used to suppress this information.
Katie is herself electrosensitive, so knows about it first-hand and even suffered ill effects from the computer she used to write the book. Her book is well written and, once I started reading it, I found it very hard to put down. This is the sort of thing we need more of and I have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone interested in the subject. It is also a valuable source of information for anyone wanting to challenge the power of the Industry and governments to impose on all of us what are still dangerous and unproven technologies.
The paperback version is available from Amazon in the UK for £12.99 and the Kindle version is £5.49.See
Happy reading.

People are questioning the "smart" meter agenda more than ever.
The 150+ comments on yesterday's coverage in Der Spiegel showed that the leading concern that Germans have is data collection and monitoring. The article, which interviews Chris Turner, Acqunetta Anderson and myself, is translated here:
http://www.takebackyourpower.net/news/2014/08/05/spiegel-de-us-citizens-opposed-to-electricity-meter/
I believe the movement's transition into the mainstream will center on these issues: the surveillance capabilities of "smart" meters, the billing issues, and the corruption involved. Those who can easily relate to the harm from low-level microwave radiation and voltage transients, though proven scientifically, is still a minority -- but it is growing.

Democrats for Social Credit endorse stop smart meter campaign
New Zealand - This is significant. The Democrats were once part of a Labour Party coalition government as a member of the Alliance Party. Though no longer rating in the current polls leading up to the September general election, the Democrats are still politically well connected. They are the only political party in New Zealand who expressed an interest to understand what electromagnetic radiation and electromagnetic sensitivity is and does
.
Their press release is I hope just a start to a general public awareness of the dangers of emr and an awareness of ems. This last week, ESNZ Trust was contacted by three people injured by emr, with particular concerns about smart meters. The list keeps growing.

Critique of National Association for Independent Schools (false) Statement
This document is a response to the NAIS statement. It offers reasons why schools charged with the care of children, adolescents and young adults ought to 1) not chronically expose students, faculty and administrators to wireless radiation; 2) practice the 'Precautionary Principle' when it comes to all types of electromagnetic field exposures (ELF and RF); and 3) utilize safer, faster and more secure hard-wired means of providing schools with networked computers and high speed digital internet connections. The response also calls on NAIS to retract its post, to investigate the subject more thoroughly, and to give NAIS member schools a more complete and realistic picture of the risks.

Ontario Electricity Charges
WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO BELIEVE - electricity rate relief
On April 24, 2014, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne announced that the Debt Retirement Charge (DRC), a 0.7 cent-per-kWh charge on Ontario electricity consumers, would be terminated at the end of 2015. The Premier described this as a move that would "bring significant rate relief". Is this true?
As background, the 0.7 cent charge may sound small, but it isn't. It collects about $900 million every year from Ontario electricity ratepayers. The charge was introduced in 2002 to pay for the "residual stranded debt" of the former Ontario Hydro. The original residual stranded debt, back in 1998, was $7.8 billion.
In the 2012 Ontario Budget, it was revealed that, up to March 31, 2012, the Ontario government (through the Ontario Electricity Financial Corporation) had collected $12.8 billion dollars as a result of the debt retirement charge. In the fall 2013 Update, the Finance Minister reported that, although about $1.5 billion more had been collected to that point in time, the remaining residual stranded debt was $11.3 billion. So, after paying about $14.3 billion to retire a $7.8 billion debt, Ontario ratepayers still owed $11.3 billion. This amazing arithmetic is due to the Ontario government's addition of interest to the original amount owing and its switching of certain costs incurred by Ontario Hydro's successor companies unto the "residual stranded debt account".
This is a story that the Ontario Auditor General may someday want to investigate. Let us return, however, to the claim that removing the DRC will result in significant rate relief.
By the end of December, 2015, the DRC will have collected $15.5 billion, so Ontario ratepayers will have paid almost double the original $7.8 billion owing.
Just one year ago, the Ontario Energy Board approved an electricity (i.e. commodity charge) rate increase that cost the average ratepayer $3.63 a month, or $44 annually. It followed that with another increase in November 2013 raising rates by $4.00 per month, or $48 annually. Then, on April 1, 2014, there was another increase of $2.83 per month, or $34 annually. Those increases did not include rate increases for the "delivery" or "regulatory" lines on our electricity bills, which also increased. So, in just one year, the electricity rates jumped $126 annually and Wynne's announced rate relief won't happen until the end of 2015.
2015 just happens to also be the year the Ontario Clean Energy Benefit (OECB) ends. The OECB reduces the average bill by $13.30 per month or $160 annually. Ontario's taxpayers pay it, so it is a subsidy from residents' right pockets to their left pockets. The average bill (electricity, or "commodity charge " only) at the start of 2016 will thus be $286 higher on an annual basis than it was as of April 30, 2013. Adding the HST brings the increase to $323. There will also be further increases from the Ontario Energy Board's scheduled rate setting on December 1, 2014, May 1, 2015 and December 1, 2015; those will add a minimum of $100 to homeowners' electricity costs.
In other words, the average residential bill will have jumped by approximately $425 per year. That represents a 25% increase in electricity rates in two years before Premier Wynne's "significant rate relief" of $160 per year occurs. Just as the DRC is ended, another scheduled charge from the recent announcement (aimed at reducing energy poverty) of $11 will be added.
By December 1, 2015, our electricity costs for residences will be charged out at over 21 cents per kilowatt (kWh). That will only get worse as more contracted wind and solar plants enter the grid. Add in expected increases in the "delivery" and "regulatory" lines, tack on HST and all-in costs will be in the neighborhood of 30 cents a kWh! Ontario residents will be challenging Germany and Denmark for the privilege of having the most expensive rates in the industrialized world.
