While dementia is a disease that typically plagues the elderly, a new type of cognitive condition is affecting younger individuals in their early 20s and teens a disorder known as "digital dementia."
Digital dementia is characterized as the deterioration of brain function as a result of the overuse of digital technology, such as computers, smart phones and Internet use in general, Medical Daily reported. This excess use of technology leads to unbalanced brain development, as heavy users are more likely to overdevelop their left brains, leaving their right brains underdeveloped.
The left side of the brain is generally associated with rational thought, numerical computation and fact finding, while the right side of the brain is responsible for more creative skills and emotional thoughts. If the right brain remains under developed in the long term, it can lead to the early onset of dementia.
"Ten to 15 percent of those with the mild cognitive disorders develop dementia," said psychiatrist Park Ki-Jeong.
Common symptoms of digital dementia include memory problems, shortened attention spans and emotional flattening.
According to experts, this disorder has become a significant problem in South Korea, which is home to the world's largest population of Internet users. The World Bank found that 83.8 percent of South Koreans have Internet access, and The Wall Street Journal estimated that 85 percent of the country's population will have smartphones by 2017.
Numerous clinics have been established in South Korea to address digital dementia, such as the Balance Brain Center in southern Seoul. Many experts have called for Internet addiction to be classified as a mental disorder and that it should be treated as a major public health issue.
In Canada, Safety Code 6 is: Limits of Human Exposure to Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Energy in the Frequency Range from 3 kHz to 300 GHz
These frequencies include the radiofrequency waves that now unceasingly swamp throughout all indoor and outdoor environments and are emitted by all cellphones, smartphones, tablets, any size of computer, cordless phones, baby monitors, smart meters, wireless gaming stations, appliances, etc. that are enabled to communicate wireless whether or not they're directly in use (unless wireless features are off, or the device is completely powered off, and for some items only if the battery is removed).
If you didn't previously see notice of this public invitation or if you were unable to present on July 8th, you may wish to contact Mr. MacDonald to notify him of your interest.

Subject: Safety Code 6 Public Consultation Rescheduled
Dear citizen,
On behalf of the Expert Panel on Safety Code 6 you were invited to participate in a public consultation on July 8. The Royal Society of Canada is delighted to have received a large outpouring of interest in this event, making it challenging to organize in the current circumstances. We are therefore rescheduling the consultation for later this summer. In doing so, we can assure you that your invitation will remain valid for the meeting, and also that I shall follow up with you directly as soon as the new date for the meeting is established.
Thank you,
Russel
Cher citoyen,
Cordialement,
Russel

Gro Harlem Brundtland: No Longer Electrosensitive
is now using a cell phone and surfing the Internet,
according to a story in this morning's Aftenbladet, a
Norwegian daily newspaper.
Though she rarely discussed her condition in public,
Brundtland has long been the word's best known
electrosensitive.

Protect your children from mobile phone radiation |
According to the board, the brochure provides an overview of the board's $7 million initiative to make all schools Wi-Fi capable next year.
However, some parents have been highly critical of the board's process and plan for implementing Wi-Fi in all schools. Parents concerned about the potential health hazards associated with wireless technology are calling on the board to stop its plans.
Some parents have told the school board they have concerns wireless networks may expose their children to radiation emitted by wireless signals.

Idiopathic Environmental Intolerance Attributed to Electromagnetic Fields: A Content Analysis of British Newspaper Reports.

Abstract
Idiopathic environmental intolerance attributed to electromagnetic fields (IEI-EMF) is a controversial condition in which people describe symptoms following exposure to electromagnetic fields from everyday electrical devices. However, double-blind experiments have found no convincing evidence that electromagnetic fields cause these symptoms. In this study, we assessed whether recent newspaper reporting in the UK reflected this scientific evidence. We searched a database of newspaper articles to identify all those that contained IEI-EMF related keywords and selected a random sample of 60 for content analysis. For our primary outcomes, we assessed how many articles mainly or wholly presented an electromagnetic cause for IEI-EMF and how many discussed unproven treatments for the condition such as strategies intended to reduce exposure to electromagnetic fields or the use of complementary and alternative therapies. We also assessed whether the type of information source used by a newspaper article (e.g. scientist, person with IEI-EMF, politician) or the type of newspaper (broadsheet, tabloid, local or regional) was associated with either outcome. Of the 60 articles, 43 (71.7%) presented a mainly electromagnetic cause, compared to 13 (21.7%) which presented mainly non-electromagnetic causes and 4 (6.7%) which did not discuss a cause. 29 (48.3%) did not mention any potential treatment, while 24 (40.0%) mentioned eletromagnetic field related strategies and 12 (20.0%) mentioned complementary or alternative therapies. Articles which quoted someone with IEI-EMF were significantly more likely to report an electromagnetic cause and to present unproven treatments. Those which used a scientist as a source were more likely to present a non-electromagnetic cause for the condition. The widespread poor reporting we identified is disappointing and has the potential for to encourage more people to misattribute their symptoms to electromagnetic fields. Scientists should remain engaged with the media to counteract this effect.

James Rubin is a significant promoter of the effort by industry and some governments to classify EHS/ES as psychological in nature. I've attached a letter from James Rubin who runs "The Mobile Phone Research Unit" at Kings College. He is a professor of Psychology and appears to be looking at cell phones only from a psychological perspective in an attempt to discredit the existence of biologically-based ES, failing to take into consideration biological effects. His funding is coming in part from the British government which has already made their leanings clear -- that ES (EHS in the US) is psychosomatic in origin.
Here is an excerpt from the attached letter regarding finding for the "Task Force".
"The Government's Department of Health has paid for this research, which is being conducted by independent researchers from the Guy's, King's and St. Thomas' Medical School at King's College London."

Cellphone towers often unwelcome neighbours
With 2,400 towers in GTA, residents and local councils are starting to push back against the rules governing where they can go.Toward a Smart Meter RECALL!
Customers report flames shooting from outlets, burned out appliances and fires after smart meter installation. Meanwhile in some states, the utility companies and their regulators response is to charge more money (opt-out fees) to avoid smart meters and they ignore the health and fire hazards.
The US Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) is a federal agency that will take complaints on utility smart meters from all US states.
Last year the CPSC recalled 1.3 million GE dishwashers due to "15 reports of dishwasher heating element failures, including seven reports of fires, three of which caused extensive property damage."
If you've been harmed by smart meters or had safety problems call: (800) 638-2772 Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET
or submit your complaint by email.*
Here's the information you will need to provide:
- A description of the product;
- The name of the manufacturer;
- A description of the injury, or death, or the risk of illness, injury, or death related to use of the product;
- The date or estimated date when the incident occurred or when you first became aware of the potential for the product to act in an unsafe manner;
You will also need to provide a description of who you are, for example, consumer, health care professional, a government agency; your name and mailing address; and permission to publish your Report on SaferProducts.gov. Finally your verification that the Report is true and accurate to the best of your knowledge, information, and belief.
Once the CPSC receives your complaint they will send a report back to you for your review and consent. It will then go to the manufacturer where they will have to respond in ten days. After that depending on the number of complaints the compliance office receives, they will decide if the products should be recalled!
HIDDEN ARRAY Cell towers disturb pair of Santa Feans
Both say they have experienced adverse reactions since June 1 and assumed they were due to transmissions from the new array of nine antennas hidden in a faux fourth floor atop a portion of the Hotel Santa Fe, 1501 Paseo de Peralta the latest and largest local effort so far to hide cellphone towers, both from sight and public controversy, in such structures as bell towers, chimneys and metal trees.
