Not only has the first Green Party member, Elizabeth May, been elected to the Canadian Parliament in spring 2011, but the citizens of the State of Baden-Württemberg have elected the first Green Party premier in all of Germany. Diagnose-Funk, an environmental and consumer organization for the protection against electromagnetic pollution, seized this opportunity to share its recommendations regarding a sustainable wireless technologies policy with their new state government in April 2011.
As a result, the Coalition Agreement of the new state government in Baden-Württemberg says in its chapter on Environmental Policy as a Health and Social Policy (p. 38) [English translation]:
We will reinforce the precautionary principal and technology assessment. For cell antennas below 10 meters, we will reintroduce the requirement for a building permit authorization. Municipalities and the public shall be given greater rights of participation regarding the siting of cell towers. In communication with those affected, we will also develop strategies to minimize the exposure to electromagnetic fields. On a federal level, we will work toward lowering the exposure limits of electromagnetic radiation.
