CRTC declares broadband internet access a basic service

WiFi allergy woman can't leave her house

A former nurse claims she is housebound due to a rare condition that means she is allergic to all WiFi and phone signals.
Kim De'Atta, from Glastonbury, Somerset, rarely sees friends and family because electromagnetic waves give her migraines, fatigue and even infections.
She has to wear a shielded bed net on the rare occasions she leaves home and can only visit places with poor mobile phone reception.
She claims the debilitating condition has forced her to move home twice due to phone masts being built nearby. She hopes that speaking out about electrosensitivy will help people understand her unusual condition and be more sympathetic.
Ms De'Atta said: "Most of the time people think I am mad. It is so difficult because people are not feeling it themselves. I have not seen friends and family for so long. I have had two visitors for half a day each this year. It's heartbreaking, really."

Worcester School Officials weigh risks of Wi-Fi signals
Worcester is just the second school district in the state to adopt such guidelines, which encourage steps such as keeping laptops and other Wi-Fi-enabled devices out of laps, and turning them off when they're not in use. The Ashland school system implemented its own recommendations, which Worcester school officials used as a template for theirs, a year ago.
In both cases, the move to explore the murky territory of electromagnetic radiation originated with local residents who have become passionate advocates for rolling back the reach of wireless internet.

But it's even worse than we think.
We now know that those iPads, smartphones and Xboxes are a form of digital drug. Recent brain imaging research is showing that they affect the brain's frontal cortex — which controls executive functioning, including impulse control — in exactly the same way that cocaine does. Technology is so hyper-arousing that it raises dopamine levels — the feel-good neurotransmitter most involved in the addiction dynamic — as much as sex.
This addictive effect is why Dr. Peter Whybrow, director of neuroscience at UCLA, calls screens "electronic cocaine" and Chinese researchers call them "digital heroin." In fact, Dr. Andrew Doan, the head of addiction research for the Pentagon and the US Navy — who has been researching video game addiction — calls video games and screen technologies "digital pharmakeia" (Greek for drug).

February 6, 2014 The fire I reported on my blog from PA has certainly been under-reported and mostly kept "under wraps." I would say that this fire is very graphic because it was filmed as it happened and there is no doubt on the cause. This is what can happen due to a smart meter. It has been frustrating it has not received more attention.

Smart Meter Fires and Insurance Companies
One question that no one seems able to answer is why the insurance companies are not raising concerns about these fire hazards. They say they will pay the claims. It is likely that they will inspect as much as possible given the smeters are often taken before an inspector arrives. If they believe the smeter was responsible they have the right/duty to subrogate the claims, charging the utility and/or the meter manufacturer for repayment. This could take time but the customer is never informed, the insurance report is not shared so the victim is never allowed to know that the meter was the cause. Victims have been told that the report belongs to the insurer, not to the policyholder. The victim has to pay the deductible and the insurer has the right to increase premiums. Many insurers say that in all cases of claims the premiums will increase as much as 30% for several years. Even if the insurance company is compensated and, therefore, suffers no loss, the customer is not aware of it and is not compensated for the deductible or the additional premiums paid.
How is this right? And why aren't people going after the insurers for keeping silent about this risk? If the insurers were suffering losses (e.g. not being reimbursed through subrogation) they would be insisting that the meters be removed and replaced with safe ones. Isn't it the insurance industry's fiduciary responsibility to warn the public about a dangerous product? We've seen warnings about things like hoodies when one or two people have problems with the strings getting caught. How many homes must burn, how many lives put at risk before the insurance companies warn about the dangers posed by smart meters ?
I have tried to get answers about this from the insurance commissioner in Canada who sent me to the provincial commissioner who sent me to my insurance company who sent me to the federal insurance commissioner. No answers. They all acted as if this were something they've never considered.
All responses individuals have rec'd from their insurers so far have been the same. They will increase premiums and we do not have the right to get involved. It is between the insurance company and the utility co., and/or the manufacturer. To me this seems like a win-win for the insurance company.
