The Canadian initiative to stop Wireless Electrical and Electromagnetic Pollution

6 March 2015

Electrohypersensitivity In January 2015, how far from January 1945 were we?

In January 2015, we could witness in Sweden a huge massmedia-based attack launched against persons with the functional impairment called electrohypersensitivity. They were accused of not having a proper diagnosis, no proofs to back their claims of ill health when exposed to the moderns society's artifical electrosmog, and so it was meant that they obviously should not be entitled to any economic support from the Swedish state.

The Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare actually has pointed out in a separate document that electrohypersensitivity is not a medical diagnosis, but they forgot about the symptoms, and they forgot to mention that electrohypersensitivity is a functional impairment, not a disease. With the latter in mind it is completely superfluous to point out that it is not a medical diagnosis. One could just as well say that it is not a car, a boat, a mountain or a spade.

What Health Canada Doesn't say About cell Phones

Would parents let their children sleep with cellphones under their pillows or allow wireless devices to be their constant companions if they knew it could increase risk of cancer? Would women tuck their cellphones in their bras if they knew that young women had developed breast cancers precisely where they had carried their phones? Would men, hoping to conceive healthy children, place laptops on their reproductive body parts if they knew of the science showing this type of exposure can cause sperm abnormalities?

Smartphones are addictive and should carry health warning, say academics

A study by the University of Derby and published in the International Journal of Cyber Behaviour, Psychology and Learning found that 13% of participants in the study were addicted, with the average user spending 3.6 hours per day on their device.

The majority of participants said their smartphone use caused distraction from many aspects of their lives, including employment, hobbies and studies.

Blood tests sent to NBN Co to thwart tower plans

Two northern NSW resident action groups campaigning against NBN towers have sent blood sample results to NBN Co and its contractors in a bid to scare them off their rollout plans.

The groups - the Friends of Condong Ridge, which opposes a tower at Clothiers Creek, and the OREAD Project in Kyogle shire - say they have taken a leaf from the book of anti-cell tower campaigners in Wales.

Under the strategy, residents take a blood test before a cell tower is erected and send the results with a legal liability letter to the telco, its contractors and the land owner hosting the tower.

The letter states that further pathology tests will be undertaken once the tower is in place, and threatens litigation if any trend is uncovered between the 'before' and 'after' tests.

NEW DELHI: The Central Information Commission ( CIC) has pulled up the environment ministry for providing "false and misleading" information that it had conducted no study on the harmful effects of mobile radiation. It has also asked the ministry to explain why it allowed unrestricted installation of mobile towers and not formulated a policy on it.

More and more people suffer from environmental sensitivities, which manifests itself in a variety of reactions to chemicals, perfumes, cigarettes, at exposure levels usually tolerated by most people. According to Health Canada, this disease is emerging, but it is not recognized by the health authorities in Quebec.

Estelle Servanin suffers from a severe form of environmental sensitivity. She overreaction - which is apparent to allergies - to contaminants of all kinds, such as molds, perfumes, cigarettes and exposure to electromagnetic radiation.

Considered an extreme case, Estelle Servanin is confined to her home for three years. It can not work and receiving benefits from social assistance. "Insofar as I continue to be exposed, I am increasingly sick," she said.

For her, the only way to get better is to avoid contact with what makes it sick. To help the two doctors, including a rheumatologist, and Dr. Louis Jacques, MD to the direction of public health, have prescribed equipment:

an air purifier to counter chemical pollutants;
a special paint for the walls;
a bed, a mattress and special curtains to prevent electromagnetic fields.
In a number of patients, it was observed that the reduction in exposure was reduced or eliminated symptoms. But Estelle Servanin can not pay the $ 9000 that cost the prescribed equipment.

According to a Health Canada survey, environmental sensitivities affect 3% of Canadians.
Quebec stands apart

The Ministry of Employment and Social Solidarity refused to pay him, because in Quebec, environmental sensitivities is not recognized as a disease. However, in Nova Scotia and Ontario environmental sensitivities is recognized as such and is supported by the health system.

"It is recognized across Canada. It is as if we crossed the border and that disease does not exist, "laments Estelle Servanin.

Ms. Serevanin must fight not only against the environment, but also against the government. She filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission.

"It will be a precedent that could set a precedent and will force the government to adapt its services. When these services are already available then in other provinces, it will get very annoying not to have in Quebec. »
- Michel Bélanger, lawyer
The Human Rights Commission accepted the complaint of Mrs. Servanin and investigate future. But in the meantime, on 12 February, the office of the Minister for Rehabilitation, the Youth Protection and Public Health reiterated the refusal of the Ministry of Employment and Social Solidarity to act on the demand for equipment.

'Smoking is even deadlier than we thought': 67% of smokers WILL die from the habit, says new research

New research sheds fresh light on the deadly toll of tobacco showing the an astonishing two-thirds of smokers will die early from smoking-related health issues.

The new Australian research, published by BMC medicine, showed that doctors had a low estimate of smokers who die from their habit and that the actual figure was roughly 67 per cent.

Will there be a similar early death rate for persons chronically exposed to electro magnetic radiation?

BREAKING NEWS ALERT
TELUS Acquires 15 MHz of AWS-3 Spectrum for $1.5 billion (ccnm)

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - March 6, 2015) - TELUS (TSX:T)(NYSE:TU) today announced it has secured spectrum licenses equating to a national average of 15 MHz in Canada's recently concluded AWS-3 auction. These licenses, which were acquired for $1.5 billion, are very complementary to the 16.1 MHz of national AWS spectrum TELUS purchased in 2008, which is now the foundation of the company's world-class wireless network. AWS-3 spectrum is well-suited for delivering both coverage and added capacity in urban and rural environments, and TELUS expects to incorporate it into the natural evolution of the company's existing network, accelerating TELUS' ability to bring new devices to market and deliver economies of scale on wireless infrastructure investments.

"The purchase and deployment of this spectrum will ensure that TELUS continues to operate one of the fastest and most reliable wireless networks in the world, consistent with our number one corporate priority of putting customers first," said TELUS Executive Chair Darren Entwistle. "TELUS has invested $3.8 billion in spectrum-related costs since the 2008 AWS auction, and has invested more than $32 billion in technology across the country since 2000. Thanks to our strong balance sheet, we are able to increase our spectrum position while simultaneously supporting our 2015 Capex targets as well as our multi-year share purchase and dividend growth programs, which will continue uninterrupted. Given the significant investment made by U.S. carriers TELUS is optimistic that the AWS-3 handset and network ecosystem will develop at an accelerated pace, allowing TELUS to quickly put this spectrum to use for our customers."

TELUS President and CEO Joe Natale said, "We are very pleased to secure such high quality spectrum across the country, and to have won 75 per cent of the spectrum available to us in this auction. TELUS is rapidly adding new customers and as a result we must continuously advance our network. Last year we added 357,000 postpaid wireless customers, and smartphone users now represent 81 per cent of our base. Today, we provide 4G LTE to 89 per cent of Canada's population, up from 80 per cent a year ago. This spectrum will allow us to enhance LTE coverage, particularly in urban areas, adding much-needed capacity for our more than 8.1 million wireless customers. Consistent with our commitment to rural customers, TELUS' network todayreaches 99 per cent of the Canadian population."

TELUS' national average of 15 MHz of spectrum in the AWS-3 band is comprised of the following licenses:

Region

Frequency Blocks

Spectrum Acquisition

Southern Ontario

J2

10 MHz

Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba,

Eastern Ontario, Eastern Quebec,

Southern Quebec, Saskatchewan

J1, J2

There is significant risk that the forward-looking statements will not prove to be accurate and there can be no assurances that TELUS will complete these plans or maintain these programs. Future dividend payments and share purchases through TELUS' normal course issuer bid are subject to ongoing Board assessment and approval. Readers are cautioned not to place undue reliance on forward-looking statements as a number of factors (such as regulatory and government decisions, competitive environment, our earnings and free cash flow, and capital expenditures and spectrum licence purchases, and a change in our intention to purchase shares or increase dividends) could cause actual future performance and events to differ materially from that expressed in the forward-looking statements. Quebec City firefighters ask Hydro-Québec to leave smart meters alone

Quebec City's fire department says Hydro-Québec has been too quick to remove smart meters from the scenes of fires where faulty wiring may be an issue.

The fire department says the meters are sometimes gone before investigators can look at them to find out whether their wires might have been damaged, which could lead to a short circuit and a fire.

"A fire is considered a crime scene and at a crime scene evidence should be left alone," said France Voiselle, a department spokeswoman.

It is illegal to remove anything from the scene of a fire until the fire inspector finishes his job, yet hydro companies in BC, as well as Quebec, are taking the smart meters. Many fires are caused by arcing on the meter base. What is causing the arcing? Is it water that has leaked into the smart meter's cheap casing? Is it the remote disconnect switch in the meter that sparks? Is it the lithium battery overheating (for example in the hot sun) and exploding? If all evidence is removed, we never will know if the smart meter caused or contributed to the fire or not. If Hydro Quebec and BC Hydro are so sure the smart meters are safe, why are they removing this evidence? And who inspects the smart meters, if anyone? Either no one in BC inspects (the official lab says it's never seen a failed meter) or it's done by ITRON -- certainly not an independent agency. No reports are available. That says everything as far as I'm concerned. These are fire hazards and should be removed from all of our homes

France Publishes Law on Electromagnetic Waves

The French Journal Officiel has published a law aiming to protect the general public from excessive electromagnetic waves generated by technologies relying on radio frequencies. These include base stations, mobile phones, tablets, and WiFi.  The National Agency for Health, Food, Environmental and Work Safety is mandated to periodically evaluate the potential risks and consequences of exposure to electromagnetic fields.

This law also bans advertising which targets children under 14 and bans Wi-Fi in all establishments which provide care, resting and general activities for children under 3. Additionally, in order to reduce exposure to radio frequency radiation, manufacturers or sellers of cell phones are required to mention the use of hand-free kits, clearly and legibly in their advertisements. Finally, regarding persons suffering from electro-hypersensitivity, the government under article 8, will have to submit a report to the Parliament on the issue within a year from the promulgation of this law.

EESC EHS Opinion - plenary vote January 2015

The Section for Transport, Energy, Infrastructure and the Information Society (TEN) of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) has now produced it's final draft opinion that we reported on recently. It would have represented a giant step forward in the recognition of electromagnetic hypersensitivity and the need in society to dramatically alter our approach to supporting sufferers of the condition. However today, the 21st January 2015, a Counter-Opinion was proposed and voted on before the EHS Opinion and the Counter Opinion was passed by plenary vote. That means that the good TEN 559 EHS Opinion was dismissed.

By treating the inflammatory symptoms of depression — rather than the neurological ones — researchers and doctors are opening up an exciting new dimension in the fight against what has become a global epidemic.

-----------------

Is Wireless Radiation causing the Inflammation / Depression?

Here are three plausible causes of the global depression epidemic

1.  We know that microwave radiation opens the blood / brain barrier, is it allowing toxins to enter the brain, which then causes the inflammation and depression?

2.  We know that cell phones held near the head can cause microwave radiation to penetrate the brain and cause a heating effect.  Is that heating causing the brain to be inflamed, resulting in depression?

3.  We know that people are being exposed to powerful radiation from wireless devices and antennas for many hours each day.  We know that this is having many different adverse biological effects on the body.  Are these biological effects causing inflammation, which then causes depression?

In 2009, three men got their hands on one of San Francisco's smart parking meters and in three days were able to break into its electronic system and figure out how to use the meter without paying. The hackers weren't thieves but part of a group of security researchers who wanted to find the weaknesses in this promising new technology.

Experts say the reason security is a problem lies in the tiny computers embedded in the devices. Their processing power is limited compared to a laptop or even a smartphone, and there's often only rudimentary security software in place to protect the data. When these devices are connected to the Internet, hackers can exploit the security flaws online and commit fraud or steal data from afar.

Smart meter problems force Balwyn North family out of home

John Aparo and Virginia Lo Giudice and their two sons, Alexander and Lucas, said they were left with no choice but to move after their smart meter was installed near her bedroom.

"I started having heart palpitations and not being able to sleep," Mrs Lo Giudice said. "It would take me an hour to get to sleep and then I was constantly waking up every couple of hours.

"I also had nausea during the morning and headaches, was always fatigued and had no energy, and just had a general feeling of being unwell."

The contagious thought that could kill you

Today, the nocebo is perhaps most visible in such controversial disorders as "wind turbine syndrome" (sickness and insomnia from wind farms, most common in Canada) and "electro-sensitivity" – an allergic reaction to mobile phone signals and wi-fi. Some sufferers even resort to sleeping in metal cocoons to avoid the constant ringing in their ears. Yet dozens of experiments have shown that people are just as likely to report the same symptoms when they are exposed to a sham transmitter that doesn't actually emit any electromagnetic waves.

Complaint to BBC about the above article

Type of complaint:  BBC Online
What is your complaint about:  Other BBC Online Website
Complaint category:  Factual error or inaccuracy
Contacted us before:  No
Complaint title:  Poor quality, false reporting

Complaint description:

This article, 'Contagious Thought' is not up to the normal standard of BBC information in many ways but I am most concerned about the falsehood that the writer insinuates about the medical condition known as electrical sensitivity.

This is a condition that may be called Electro Hyper-Sensitivity, Microwave Sickness, Radio Wave Sickness etc.  It is an illness that was first noticed by during the Second World War by persons working on radar.  It has been well studied scientifically and thousands of studies indicate significant biological effects to persons, animals and living things exposed to microwave radiation.

The writer insults all persons who suffer the adverse effects of microwave radiation and electro magnetic fields, by suggesting they are only imagining their condition.
The writer quotes 'Rubin' whose research is full of faults yet he ignores so many scientists who have conducted serious research and have found significant adverse health effects of wireless radiation.

A good review of the scientific information is available at www.bioinitiative.org
Electrosensitivity UK provides good information on the topic at http://www.es-uk.info/

I suffer electro hyper-sensitivity and scientific testing has shown that typical wireless devices that are widely used significantly affect my heart rate, beside many other symptoms.

I feel that the writer should apologize for his false report and the BBC should publish an accurate report on the subject to clarify the true facts.

Former Nokia Technology Chief: Mobile phones wrecked my health

Niemelä explains that the subject of mobile phone radiation has always been kept silent at Nokia.

– You couldn't talk about it within the company. Yet, among the staff, it was speculated whether the radiation could cause damage. However, no one dared to bring it up, because it could get them fired.

The invisible poison: a look at the effects of wireless technology

While the convenience of cellphones and other similar wireless devices seems almost a necessity in todays fast-paced world, it is interesting to note that cancer rates across the world continue to remain at an all-time high, especially in Canada, with cancer being the prime cause of deaths, accounting for nearly 30 per cent of all adult causalities.

Better Call Saul

Person suffering from Electo Hyper-Sensitivity in script of new TV show on AMC

This is a spinoff of the TV series Breaking Bad.  This show's first episode was 8 February on AMC - you can watch it here:

The main character's brother is EHS, and can't work for his law firm any more due to his EHS illness.  You see the brother's house in the dark with propane lanterns and the electrical wiring pulled out of the breaker panel.  Interesting to see this main stream drama raising the awareness of electro sensitivity issues and taking it to the masses.

Unmet health care needs for persons with environmental sensitivity.

J Multidiscip Healthc. 2015 Jan 23;8:59-66. doi: 10.2147/JMDH.S61723. eCollection 2015.

Abstract

Studies of unmet health care needs have shown that women, people with poor health, and people with lower socioeconomic status are more likely to report having unmet health care needs. In this study, we examined the types of and reasons for unmet health care needs in 465 people with environmental sensitivities. A second area of inquiry involved negative reactions to general anesthesia. Results showed that the most common barriers to receiving care were the inability to find a provider who understands environmental sensitivities and a lack of accessibility due to chemical and electromagnetic exposures in health care environments. Lower income and poorer health (longer illness, a worsening or fluctuating course of illness, and a higher level of disability) were significantly correlated with the total number of reported unmet health care needs. Some people with environmental sensitivities reported having negative reactions to anesthesia of long duration; most common were nausea and vomiting, fatigue, and reduced cognitive ability.

Osoyoos residents oppose cell tower proposal

According to its calculations, just five homes meet that criteria. And that's not sitting well with other residents.

"You would think for something of that magnitude, everyone would be informed," says Ryan Street, another nearby resident.
