René de Seze received significant research support (more than 100.000€, ceased in 2009) from Fondation  Santé et Radiofréquences, a research foundation created under the leadership of the French Ministry of Research  and with public interest status. Half of the budget is State funded, the other half is provided by industry. The  Foundation's independence and the transparency of its operations are guaranteed by its Ethics Charter. In 2009,  René de Seze has prepared a report for a plaintiff's lawyer on the association between radiofrequency fields and  brain cancer.

Meike Mevissen receives research funding for gene-pathway effects of radiofrequency EMF from Forschungsstiftung Mobilfunk, a non-profit-making research foundation at the ETH Zürich. Neither industry,  nor NGOs are represented on the Scientific Board of the Foundation.

Luc Verschaeve's research institute received a small research grant (less than 5.000€, ceased in March 2011)  from the GSM Operators Forum on environmental effects of mobile phone base stations.

Anders Ahlbom served (until May 2011) on the Board of Directors of Gunnar Ahlbom AB, a consulting firm  in the domains of EU affairs, especially within telecommunications.

Niels Kuster is Director and Board member of the non-profit IT'IS Foundation that performs exposure

assessments for industry and governments and he is President of the Board and shareholder of Near-Field  Technology AG, a holding controlling the two companies SPEAG and ZMT that are active in development of  near-field measurement instruments, simulation software and medical test equipment.

Joe Elder is self-employed as a RF Bioeffects Consultant. He was employed by Motorola (until 2009) and his  wife holds stocks from Motorola. His participation as an Observer in this IARC Monographs meeting is  sponsored by the Mobile Manufacturers Forum representing manufacturers of mobile and wireless  communication devices and the network infrastructure that supports them.

Jack Rowley is employed by the GSM Association whose member companies use RF to deliver

communication services. He has represented the GSM Association in government inquiries in North America  and at workshops organized by the European Commission and national authorities. His participation as an  Observer in this IARC Monographs meeting is sponsored by the GSM Association.

Mays Swicord worked as a consultant for Motorola (until 2008). His participation as an Observer in this IARC  Monographs meeting is sponsored by the CTIA – The Wireless Association.

Public Utilities Commission approves smart meter opt-out

"The smart meter still has a switching mechanism power supply that converts high voltage to low voltage, creating high frequency spikes, (called) dirty electricity throughout the wiring in the whole home," she said.

Researchers Say New Studies Confirm Cell Phone Hazards

"Stunning proof" ignored in North America, scientists say

 
Since the days when cell phones were the size of bricks, there has been debate over the safety of these devices, which use radio waves to transmit voice and data.

A number of studies, stretching back more than a decade, have suggested extended cell phone exposure increases the risk of tumors and can harm human reproduction. The industry staunchly defends the safety of mobile phones, saying the studies' conclusions are unfounded.

'Stunning proof'

Now, a group of international researchers meeting in Istanbul, Turkey has released what they call "stunning proof" that confirms findings from the Council of Europe -- pulsed digital signals from cell phones disrupt DNA, impair brain function and lower sperm count.

A meeting convened by Environmental Health Trust, with the Turkish cancer society, and Gazi University, revealed the new research that the scientists say shows damage to DNA, brain and sperm.

Nesrin Seyhan, an advisor to the World Health Organization (WHO) and NATO and head of the Biophysics Department and Bioelectromagnetics Laboratory at Gazi University in Ankara, presented findings that he says confirm the warning that just four hours of exposure to cell phone radiation disrupts the ability of human brain cells to repair damaged genes.

"We are deeply concerned about what this could mean for public health," Seyhan said.

Prof. Wilhelm Mosgoeller from the Medical University of Vienna, who has led European research teams, said he found that the cell waves induce DNA breaks. Despite industry claims to the contrary, he says DNA breaks are real.

Insect studies

A research team at the University of Athens said insect studies have demonstrated that acute exposure to GSM (Global System for Mobile) signals brings about DNA fragmentation in insects' ovarian cells, and consequently a large reduction in the reproductive capacity of the insects. Further studies, they said, demonstrated that long exposures induced cell death to the insects in the study.

Other researchers said throughout a gestation period, exposure to radiation for just six minutes a day affects the bone formation of fetuses. The researchers also worry about the effect of cell phone use on children

At higher frequencies, children absorb more energy from external radio frequency radiation than adults, because their tissue normally contains a larger number of ions and so has a higher conductivity. The researchers strongly suggest limiting cell phone and cordless phone use by young children and teenagers to the lowest possible level and urgently ban telecom companies from marketing to them.

The researchers call their findings "thought-provoking" and say they have never been investigated in North America.

"The evidence justifies precautionary measures to reduce the risks for everyone of us," Wosgoeller said.

The meeting was sponsored by Environmental Health Trust, The International Commission on Electromagnetic Safety, Gazi University and Athens University.

Is Mobile Technology Killing Bees

In actuality, bees are able to tell when nearby phones either make or receive calls. The bees start making "piping" sounds, which notify the rest of the colony that something disturbing is happening nearby. That, or it's time to swarm. "The induction of honeybee worker piping by the electromagnetic fields of mobile phones might have dramatic consequences in terms of colony losses due to unexpected swarming," wrote researcher Daniel Favre, formerly a biologist at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. In his experiments, Favre noticed that no swarming took place, even when he let the phones run for up to 20 hours at a time. After the process was concluded, it would take hours for a bee colony to return to a "normal" state, or how the colony looked prior to the cellular experiments.

Colony Collapse Disorder

Much of the recent interest in dying bees was sparked by reports of what is known as Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) — bees suddenly disappearing from the hive — which partly contributes to the widespread decline of bees. But vanEngelsdorp said scientists now have a clearer sense of what is causing the widespread collapse of bee colonies — and it's not cellphones.

Vanishing Bees

A recent three-year study analyzed the geographic distribution and genetic diversity of eight species of bumble bees in the U.S., relying on historical records and repeated surveys of about 400 sites, to ascertain precisely how many bees have vanished. The researchers compiled a database of more than 73,000 museum records and compared them with current sampling based on intensive national surveys of more than 16,000 specimens. The national analysis found that the relative abundances of four of the eight species analyzed have declined by as much as 96 percent and that their surveyed geographic ranges have shrunk by 23 to 87 percent. Some of these contractions have occurred in the last two decades.

I have come accross a couple of very important articles that will change the way of making EMF skeptics,
including judges and lawyers, understand biological effects of human cells under low level EMFs and EMR

Physics professor David D. Nolte of West Lafayette, Ind. has developed holographic Tissue Dynamics
Spectroscopy (TDS), a technology that allows researchers to look inside cells using holography and lasers. 
 

Liang Gao, Thomas Planchon and Eric Betzig at Howard Hughes Medical Institue's Janelia Farm Research Campus have developed Bessel Beam Plane Illumination Microscopy that images live cells at high speed  so that researchers create dazzling movies that make biological process such as  cell division.
