Use cellphones for less than 6 minutes a day

MUMBAI: Do not talk for more than six minutes a day on your cell phone to avoid radiation, IIT-Bombay and telecom sector experts said on Friday. The options are to put the phone on speaker mode and hold it at least a foot away from your body or use a headset. They suggested putting up a wire mesh or water curtains, or growing plants to prevent radiation from cell, TV or FM towers in the vicinity of 500 metres to one km. You can complain to the authorities against the towers.

These facts were recently brought to the fore by an inter-ministerial committee of experts formed by the ministry of communications and information technology to study hazards posed by cell phones and towers.

Experts warned that many anti-radiation chips in the market are fake and said radiation from cell phones and towers posed serious health risks, including loss of memory, lack of concentration, disturbances in your digestive system and sleep disorders.

IIT-Bombay professor Girish Kumar warned against cell phone usage for more than six minutes a day as handsets have a specific absorption rate (capacity to absorb radiation) of 1.6 watts per kg and thus can absorb radiation only for six minutes a dayand later can harm the body. "After formally speaking on the cell phone, one should switch to a landline phone," he added, pointing out that the brain had a high risk of getting affected by radiation.

He said the antennas of repeaters near residential areas or working stations should not give a radiation frequency of more than 0.1 watts. Similarly, Kumar said, the ideal wattage for cell towers should be two watts in densely populated urban areas.

"Towers give off radiation of up to 400 watts as more carriers are fitted on the antennas. A microwave is of 500-watt capacity so imagine the effect towers can leave on your body," he added. According to Kumar, wi-fi, of not more than 100 mw, should also be switched off when not in use.

Consumer activist Achintya Mukherjee said telecom companies should connect base stations and subsidiary stations with optic fibre cables and create low radiation wireless-like inbuilt solutions to disseminate signals of low wattage.

Anil Prakash, president, Telecom Users Groups of India, demanded that the government should force telecom companies to do a self-certification of towers and experts must conduct random tests. There should also be a warning in a cell tower area that no one should come within nine metres of its periphery.

Don't use for more than six minutes a day as they (all up to 1.6 watts capacity) maintain absorption rate of radiation only for six minutes in 24 hours.

Later the radiation which are not getting absorbed can cause harm, especially to the brain.

Using speaker phone or headset by keeping the cell phone a foot away from the body is a better option. Anti-radiation chips available in the market are fake.
Similarly repeater antenna fitted inside the residential apartment or an office should not have radiation frequency of more than 0.1 watt.

Ideal watt for a cell tower antenna in densely populated urban area is 2 watts. Shockingly most of the towers have multiple carriers taking the watts up to dangerously high 400 watts, close to 500 watt power used by microwaves.

Wi-fi be switched off when not in use and should not have radiation more than 100 milliwatts.

People in highrises within 1 km of TV tower and 500 meter of FM tower can put metallic wire mesh, plants, trees, water curtains to absorb radiations.

Proliferation of patients 'allergic' to WiFi networks

The Picaresque Agency on the Internet and senior consultant physician of Internal Medicine of Hospital Clínic de Barcelona Joaquín Fernández Solà have warned on Wednesday of the proliferation of people "allergic" to the electromagnetic waves in wireless networks.

Speaking to Europa Press, the medical expert stated that technically these people do not suffer from an allergy to these magnetic fields, but develop a "sensitivity" that show with disorders ranging from anxiety, vomiting, headaches, migraines, cough , burning eyes, irritability, insomnia and eczema on the skin.

The Hospital Clinic has served over three years to one hundred patients with this sensitivity, which is estimated to affect one in every 1,000 people, but warns that Fernandez could be more long term, because they are not tested the effects of these fields after a period of many years.

The profile most affected responds to people with chemical sensitivities to environmental agents and certain environments, but beginning to be cases of men and women who first develop a sensitivity to these fields.

Input, workers are often immersed in an environment, labor usually full of electromagnetic waves, "authentic" bunker disrupting some of them.

The expert has criticized the huge presence of antennas, repeaters, wireless networks, computers and microwaves in common environments without having shown "long term" food safety, and regretted that there is "some tolerance" to these devices.

It has therefore recommended to avoid intensive exposure to these fields for the possibility of buying third generation mobile that reduce the emission of waves, as well as LED screens and screen savers for your computer.

Considered unacceptable that in Barcelona there are "illegal pollution levels, and warned that in future there could be a situation like the one with the snuff, at first seen as a sign of modernity and now banned in public places.

Directed by Francis Canals, the Agency Picaresque - Old Observatory Internet - has complained that these people must live on the edge of technology and represent "the B side of a society ever more technological."

In fact, also noted that companies have proliferated offering wireless networks insulating curtains.

A top cosmetic surgeon has blamed mobile phone screens for the recent rise in women suffering premature wrinkles.

With the rise of the smartphone, women are spending more time than ever squinting at their screens, creating an area of tension around and between the brows from scrunching up the face.

Celebrity surgeon Dr Jean-Louis Sebagh, whose clients include Cindy Crawford, says: 'The phenomenon can be seen on anyone who has, and regularly checks, a Blackberry or iPhone.'

London beauty therapist Nichola Joss, who has worked with Keira Knightley and Scarlett Johansson, has also noticed a growing phenomenon among her clients. 'I've noticed a huge difference over the past 18 months in my clients' faces from constantly peering down at a mini screen.'

There is a natural tendancy to squint at the screen when reading messages creating an area of tension and the development of fine lines and wrinkles around the brow.

Smartphone-related wrinkles are the latest condition that doctors attribute to overuse of technology, but Dr Sebagh says the problem is easily rectified with a bit of light Botox.

But Ms Joss suggests a less invasive DIY face massage can also help you avoid those early signs of aging. Relaxing the muscles and stimulating blood flow in the facial area will increase the collagen and renew that youthful, healthy glow.

Why not have a go at home. Try massaging you face in a circular motion, gently sweeping your fingers from the nasal pyramid towards the temples and around the area between your eyebrows to ward off those unwanted lines.

CELL PHONE SAFETY BILL LC 1273 INTRODUCED BY OREGON SENATOR CHIP SHIELDS FEBRUARY 3rd THAT WILL REQUIRE WARNING LABELS ON CELL PHONES SOLD IN OREGON.

February 3^nd, 2010 the Oregon Senate introduced legislation that will require precautionary information on cell phones and cell phone packaging. The legislation was inspired by similar legislation introduced in the state of Maine in April of 2010 (HP1207, LD 1706) under the name of "The Children's Wireless Protection Act." The bill will require that a warning label be placed on the phone as well as its packaging by the product retailer. The label will be supplied by the manufacturer. This is the first bill in the world to address the effects of a non thermal radiation-emitting device. The FCC and the FDA do not regulate "non-thermal" radiation-emitting devices.

State Senator Chip Shields introduced bill LC 1273 (and amend ORS 646.608) in Oregon. The bill is co-sponsored by the health committee chair Sen. Laurie Monnes Anderson, Sen. Alan Bates (co-chair human services subcommittee), Sen. Rod Monroe (co-chair education subcommittee), Rep. Jim Thompson (co-chair health committee), Rep. Ben Cannon (health care, co-vice chair). This is the first bill to address the health effects of non-thermal radiation.

The bill is in response to increasing public awareness of many independently funded scientific studies, mostly from Europe, that show a link between cell phone use and brain cancer and other health problems. Cell phones were introduced to market with no pre-market safety testing by the FDA or the FCC. Senator Shields feels that Oregon is obligated to do what it can to protect its citizens from the potential hazards of cell phone use.

Cell phones are considered of particular risk to children. France has banned advertising aimed at children and has taken other precautionary measures to warn against cell phone use by children under 12. Children are different from adults as they have a unique vulnerability. They have "windows of susceptibility" when their organs and systems may be particularly sensitive to the effect of radio frequency radiation . "The W.H.O. Considers the protection of the children's health from possible negative influence of the EMF of mobile phones as a highest priority task." Proposed Cell Phone Mast at Church will not Proceed

The controversy over chronic cell tower radiation is starting to reach the Canadian public. Recently, CBC radio ran a feature documentary about the possible harmful effects that cell towers were having on the occupants of the top floor of an apartment building in Toronto. Bell and Wind Mobile had placed towers on the roof of the apartment and gradually over a few months the people living directly under them became ill.

The airing of this program was a timely gift and confirmation to Tina Catalano and fellow activists that were protesting the erection of a cell tower that was to be hidden in roof of a nearby church in Vaughan. Read the article for information about the protest.

It seems that the public protest was so effective, the church decided to cancel any further negotiations about the planned towers. When citizens are well informed about the potential hazards of chronic microwave radiation, and then effectively communicate that knowledge to decision makers and others in the community, the health of it's congregation often outweighs the substantial financial gains offered by the wireless industry.

Re : Rogers Proposed Cellular Antennae on Church Property

To all parishioners and neighbours.

The clergy and members of the Finance Council of St. Margaret Mary Parish wish to thank all the members of our community who responded to our proposal to enter into a lease arrangement with Rogers Communications Inc. Our decision to consult the parish community was a responsible one which, although not formally required, was considered to be appropriate. Community feedback on this topic was welcomed and we thank all those who contributed to this discussion.

It has been very encouraging to see that the local community is alive, strong, caring, and concerned about he well being of our church and parish community. Unfortunately, the Parish has faced financial challenges over the last several years and the Finance Council has struggled to ensure that the financial needs of the parish are met. Our expenses continue to increase each year just as your home expenses do. However, our collections have not increased to match this demand. We rely heavily upon the fundraising efforts of committed and dedicated groups within the parish.

We were approached by Rogers with an idea. In good faith, we studied the proposal over a long period of time and sought the advice of the Archdiocese of Toronto. Our absolute priority through months of careful consideration has always been the well being of all members of our parish family and the extended community. This goes both without saying and without compromise. We opened the discussion to the community, have attempted to be receptive to all points of view, and have made our best efforts to filter out the highest quality technical information on the subject to guide us. We did receive many comments regarding the lease proposal and, on the basis of those comments, we have decided not to proceed with the proposal and to cancel the meeting scheduled for February 9, 2011.

As somewhat of a paradox, it is the popular lifestyle choice we have made as a society to embrace cellular technology, at work and at home, that creates the very need for the antennae that we are currently discussing. Naturally, our parish neither created the demand for cellular phones nor is it capable of preventing their deeper penetration into our neighbourhoods. Our community is already aware of existing cellular antennas in the vicinity of the church and of the growing number of other locations throughout the city, the region and the nation. Indeed many of which are installed without any consultation or public discussion, whatsoever, including collocation (the function of including multiple antenna's from various companies on the same single facility) which is regularly happening in our community.

We have been advised that the technology that we proposed to implement at our parish was safe and posed no health issues to the community. In fact, the proposed antennae at St. Margaret Mary Church would, if directed in the westerly direction of St. Margaret Mary School (which they are not) and if operating at full capacity, full time (which we are advised is not the case), would generate radio frequency levels at the location of the school of about I% of the threshold levels set by Industry Canada. In other words, the intensity would be 99% lower than the maximum permitted by Government of Canada standards.

The above said, as Woodbridge's longest serving Roman Catholic church, our goal is not to divide the community. Mast near to a Junior Primary School to be Removed

The Alliance for Irish Radiation protection would like to thank the Leixlip Town Council for its endorsement of the "Precautionary Principle" in calling for the removal of a communications mast deemed "exempt development" by Kildare Co. Council.

The Leixlip Town Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to have a mast removed from a building which faced directly into a junior primary school at Confey, Leixlip.

Nearly two years ago the, councillors noted, a meeting during which Prof. Olle Johansson,, of the Karolinska Institutet spoke outlining the damaging effects of microwave radiation on children.

CHILDREN who use mobiles could be up to five times more likely to develop a brain tumour than adults, experts claim.

More than 50 per cent of seven-year-olds own a mobile phone, with the figure rising to 75 per cent by the age of 10.

The potential risk could be a "huge time bomb", according to independent watchdog Powerwatch, which investigates their safety. It wants children banned from using them.

Technical manager Graham Philips said: "The risk of getting a brain tumour is far increased for children as their cells are still dividing which could cause a tumour to grow. Their skulls are also far thinner and less developed than an adult's, meaning they don't absorb as much of the radiation leaving it to get through to the brain. This can do a huge amount of damage." He said some children are talking on their phones for two hours a day.

Cancer specialist Dr Justin Stebbing, of Imperial College London, said: "Their cells are still growing so they could be more sensitive to DNA damage."

The BMJ Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine advises parents to ensure children use text messages, hands-free kits or loudspeaker functions.

The Department of Health says young children should only use mobiles in emergencies.

The Mobile Operators Association said: "Two decades of research, to date, has established no adverse health effects and all mobile phones comply with international safety guidelines."
